I thought this just wouldn't show up in my RSS podcast feed but it turns out it's been posted in the Bombcast feed, at least the premium one.

The decision to make two q and a podcasts instead of cross coast ones is a bummer and wasn't really well communicated.

More site updates and communication on big changes from previous years would be appreciated. We all understand you are busy and it is difficult to get all the content done you need to do but I feel like there has been a gradual erosion of communication on what we can expect around some of the big annual events and what kind of premium series you have planned over the next 6 months.

Nobody needs anything fancy or a day by day update or anything crazy but maybe looking at how some Patreon creators handle this and give a general outlook of their plans and direction of content would be worthwhile. An email or update every month or two months shouldn't be too much to ask.

Vinny mentioned in two separate episodes that they would be doing a Q&A episode while they were gone.

There is absolutely no reason they have to "explain" themselves to us; they're doing a bunch of GOTY stuff and don't have the time to do two real podcasts in between arguing for 20000 hours a day. Give them a break and don't act like you're entitled to anything from any of them, including an explanation of the way they want to run their website.

Yeah, I was so confused, was prepared to be some sort of joke but... It was just on the wrong feed. It was uploaded right on the free (Beastcast) feed.

All I am trying to say is that one of the highlights of the year is cross coast content and that I feel monthly to two-month updates would be appreciated by subscribers regarding what they are looking to do around big events such as GOTY, Pax, E3 and premium features.

I felt I did so respectfully and politely without infringing on their freedom as content creators.

You've used the word explain in quotes when I didn't use that word.

They are not beholden to us, nor did my post suggest they are, contrary to your tone.

At the same time, the way that content creators and subscribers/backers communicate on the internet has changed massively in the last few years thanks to the rise of Patreon and such.

In an increasingly competitive environment for monthly and yearly subscriptions on the internet, sometimes I feel I am left a little in the dark about what to expect from Giant Bomb.

I am sure they don't need you to defend them, so enjoy your weekend.

So glad you said this, I definitely recall being told that this week's Beastcast would be a q&a. Haven't listened to this yet but I did really enjoy the bombcast one. I normally only listen to the Beastcast because the start of the week is full of other podcasts I listen to, and it's hard to find 3hrs for the west coast crew on a Tues.

@johnnymcginley: I think the Beastcast did a good job of giving advance notice that there would be a prerecorded, emails Beastcast this week. However, the Bombcast did a nonexistent job of mentioning whatsoever that they were doing the same thing, instead just out of nowhere there was a prerecorded Bombcast up on Tuesday with no east coast staff.

Anyway, yes, as you and others have said, the all-staff podcasts are always great, especially when it’s a non-GotY thing where they can just talk about stuff and don’t have to constantly be arguing. I’m pretty bummed that they’re doing less of them this year, especially when they’re essentially skipping the “fun” ones to now only do the “argue about the games” ones.

@bisonhero: the bombcast for this week was in the upcoming section on the site, that alone was enough to let you know it was pre-recorded.

@vinny Check out stretchy jeans, I had the same issue as you and these last way longer and they look the same. And yes, they make them for men!

@jstaunton: Sure, there was some notice like a day or two before. But if you look at the comments for that Bombcast, it caught a lot of people by surprise. I don’t think the Bombcast mentioned it on-air at all. At least the Beastcast spent several weeks asking for extra questions on-air to make it clear that they were going to do a pre-recorded all-listener-questions episode.

Honestly if GB ditched the GOTY pods and just dedicated their end-of-year time to producing a glut of Hitsmas-style content and cross-coast pods... I'd be fine with that.

Not that I don't enjoy GOTY. GOTY's cool, but if it's one or the other, well...

It's not the first time he's said things like that, either. If he doesn't care about being a thoughtful critic, doesn't care about staying informed on industry news, and doesn't care about the fanbase, what's left to care about? The paycheck?

He's good at being a 'performer', but so is everyone else at that office, and they manage to keep the disdain minimal or at least private.

If we've lost cross coast bomb and beast casts I hope that GOTY isn't like it was last year where they just go down a list for 3 days and vaguely talk about games. I know some people don't like it but I absolutely live for the cut throat nature of GOTY.

@stingo: I wanna know this too. I want some noise cancelling headphones, and having bought the same TV that the GB crew has, I trust their opinions on electronics. Might need to buy some of those.

@slaughts: Early in the podcast Alex says he is going out to dinner for his birthday, Bakalar asks where, Alex doesn’t wanna say, someone rightly points out that by the time this episode comes out the dinner will be in the past so no listener could stalk Alex (this would be true of even a normal Beastcast), Alex says he still thinks there is no reason to share the name of the dinner place with the listeners, Dan says “yeah, fuck ‘em.”

Pretty sure it was a joke, but madlaughter is entitled to his opinion that it was excessive.

Growing up with Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s you certainly knew when it was the weekend. And having certain TV shows on certain days made it easy to learn differences between days of the week.

I wonder if Abby has ever learned more about things that occurred before she was born after hearing about them from her coworkers? Never having heard of the Honeymooners, or "bang, zoom, to the moon" is hard to comprehend. Is the 15 year difference between her and Vinny really enough to never have heard of so many things? Some of the things she hasn't heard of seem like they should have come up before, judging by the group she works with.

I 100% agree with this, and I never really post on here anymore. Really disappointed to not see that kind of cross-coast content this year.

Bought a $300 Sony bluetooth over-ear headphones that took 7 hrs to charge, can only connect to 1 device at a time and last 15 hrs. The right hinge broken last week. I had it for 4 months.

The Chinese headphones I bough for $49, takes 4 hrs to charge and lasts 40 hrs, and can connect to 2 devices... it has a metal hinges. I bought it 3 yrs ago.

hey for cross coast content there’s upf tomorrow! the cross coast upfs are great, and we don’t know what their content plans are this year or goty week. it’s likely the normal podcasts were prerecorded to make room for more fun features, i’d also rather see those than longer deliberations.

To be honest I haven't enjoyed the GOTY deliberations for a few years now so I'd much rather we got some different content from them. Go back to the skits maybe!

I agree with this, I haven't enjoyed GOTY deliberations for year, but I love the winter games/hitmas style videos.

@zoofame: I was actually thinking about the recent lack of premium content yesterday. They did a big premium sale for Thanksgiving and follow it up with... almost no premium content. There’s been 3 premium shows in the past 2 weeks. And very little normal content as well.

It’s very unfortunate timing.

@jeffbakalar I also completely nailed that the fish alien guy in Mandalorian was Horatio Sanz. Friends and family actually constantly ask me who specific voices or actors are since I'm weirdly adept at it. Good to know there are others with this useless power.

This comment thread is why I'm so incredibly thankful I'm in a job and at a point in my career when I no longer have to directly interact with the public. No matter how well you communicate, people just don't listen. And even if they can be bothered to listen, they're never happy.

@grubb: I've used bootleg Apple earbuds for like the last five years and replaced them twice. The original apple ones crapped out in like three months time of getting them.

I used to wake up early as possible on the weekends as a kid to get on bnet to hash out as many UMS games on Brood War as possible before noon. Good times.
