Mike Mahardy joins the GBE Crew as Jeff is still away in sunny Florida. The crew talked about the conclusion of XCOM 2, Not For Broadcast, Jorry, Wide Ocean Big Jacket, and Zombie Army 4. They also discuss which Nancy Drew-like games are the best as well as failed feature pitch ideas.

The Giant Bomb East team gathers to talk about the week in video games, their lives, and basically anything that interests them. All from New York City!

I just want to say that the way Mike jumps from topic to topic and tangents is totally me. I don't know what it is about my brain but mine does it, too.

The city of Troy was noteworthy for being impenetrable (which is why the horse was used, rather than a regular attack.)

Just to add to what Mike was saying, I'm from Western New York, around the buffalo area. From my graduating high school class (2007) there have been 5 people that have died from opiate overdose. That's from a class of 140ish. It's devastating.

In addition to the other Nancy-like recommendations I'll take any opportunity to mention Danganronpa and the Zero Escape games( 999, etc). One for murder mysteries and the other one for good puzzles and story.

Also, doesn't the Trojan analogy fall apart if you think about it? I mean It makes you think you are getting a "nice, safe horse" but then it bursts open,.... inside.

Is there a known reason the Beastcast premium feed hasn’t been updating “on time” the last few weeks? Thanks and love.

I think MK is going to do it's own thing. Also, MK11 at least to me, isn't the greatest game to watch.

Please don't overlook the Blackwell series if you like point and click adventure games. They're really good if a bit amateurish at the start.

There's no real good reason for MK11 not being in EVO. The NRS pro scene has been getting some of the best numbers it's ever had so it's looking like politics.

I can't speak for everyone but as fun as it is to play I'd say MK11 is the most boring to watch fighting game with a scene right now. Kind of glad that spots filled with other fighting games.

Evo has always been about Politics. Its why even games that aren't out or even tested have managed to get into the Evo line up.

W101 is a classic. But like all good Platinum games, you gotta put in the effort to truly appreciate it.

That ending. JFC!

The Blackwell games by Wadjet Eye Games are really good new adventure games. It's about a loner writer and her ghost 'friend' solving crimes. The first game in the series is the Blackwell Legacy. http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/games/blackwell-legacy/

Point-and-click games are mostly dead but I love Puzzle Agent 1 and 2 (it's a goofy Twin Peaks cartoon parody with great puzzles). I also love The Room series. Don't know how well they work in co-op, but I love them.

"Blades will bleed shields will shatter" was always Twilight Princess. The realistic Zelda that's being talked about was a pre-rendered demo at Spaceworld 2000, and when Wind Waker was revealed, people got angry because they were very mature, extremely well-adjusted, manly tough men who wanted a gritty Zelda.

I love that every time the Sims 4 launch is brought up on Giant Bomb the crew doesn't mention anything about the 2 biggest lacking features and instead insists people were upset because of pools and toddlers. Open world and Create-A-Style were the big feature removals, and those are the biggest reason Sims fans may dislike Sims 4.

I've actually been thinking a lot about Nancy Drew-style games that have come out recently. The first one that comes to mind is Return of the Obra Dinn. To the person who wrote in; if you haven't played it. I heartily suggest you at least run it by your SO and see if that scratches the itch.

Hey someone mentioned Arkham Origins on a podcast so I'm obliged to post about it.

I completely disagree with Mike. Arkham Origins has a simple story, but it's also the only coherent one in the series.

The shock gloves add a fun overpowered element to the combat where, once charged, you can just go nuts instead of using the same rote solution to take down each specialized goon.

It expands on the crime scene investigation mechanics way more than City or Knight.

And maybe my favorite thing: the boss fights are all built on the actual combat mechanics. It isn't a bunch of Zelda-like using a bomb on the right glowy thing 3 times in a row. It's punching and countering and using your gadgets.

It's good.

A whole world on Ring Fit Adventure is a lot, especially as a first go. I often stop when suggested and that's making a lot of difference over time.

Props to Alex for his attempt to say Under-Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] during the EVO news bit. I know the east coast aren't quite as keen to the scientists in the FG scene but it's cool Alex enjoys watching EVO.

As for MK11 not included in the EVO lineup this year, unfortunately EVO does not disclose their decisions why one fighting game makes it in over others. There's a lot of speculation being talked about why but we'll never really know.

Anyways, keep up the great work Beast Crew!

That's a real shame that MK11 didn't make it into EVO. As a spectator I rather like the flow of kombat in MK11. The myriad of anime fighters are fine but I can only attend so many fireworks shows in one evening.

Where I come from it's generally good etiquette to let the person behind you in line skip in front of you provided:

1. You have a bunch of shit, like a shopping cart full of stuff, 5-10+ items, let's say.

2. The person behind you only has one or two items they're buying.

I'm not sure why the concept of a docked-only switch is so unbelievable to everyone. There are for sure nintendo fans out there who want to play the latest nintendo games but also don't have any interest in the portability aspect of the switch.

I'd totally be down to buy a switch like that if it preformed better with games. The thought of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 not running like utter trash is a nice thought indeed.

To the guy looking for "Drew-likes", try The Raven. Its good, and you play an old man cop. Its kind of like Poirot.
