Highly recommend Atgames Legends Ultimate for a low cost home arcade. I know they have a bad past reputation, but this thing is solid. They update firmware weekly adding new features all the time. The latest update allows Raspberry Pi over USB and light gun support. It comes with 2 HDMI ports 2 USB ports and has Bluetooth. It’s really a versatile cabinet. You can pretty much hook anything into it, I personally have a PC connected to it running Launchbox and CoinOPs.

Really solid episode, feels great to have the original crew all together talking with each other and Bakalar fits nicely with them.

So i Cancelled my Premium last month.

Im sorry but im just disappointed in the way you guys ignore certain games completely and talk about the same ones over and over.

Nioh 2 comes out today and theres been no mention of it in any podcast this week, no quick look or any articles or videos.

Its not just this either. The content has been lacking but ive sort of excused that because i like to support you guys but after this year and talking about call of duty every podcast(even before the warfare dlc) ive just sort of had enough. Im sorry but other games exist.

Anyhow. Was looking forward to a Nioh 2 Quicklook for a while but you guys dont even know its out going by the recent podcasts. Which is a bit of an oversight as a games site.

Anyhow. Thats just my opinion. Good luck to guys and ill still admire and respect what you guys have done.

pS. This current podcast is great(apart from the lack of Nioh 2 talk) and its nice to hear you guys come together.

Could someone explain why people would prefer something like the MiSTer over simply using an emulator? I know it's hardware emulation vs software emulation, but I don't really understand what that means in practical terms. How do you notice the difference when you're actually playing the games?

(I also hope we get more cross-coast podcasts by the way, this is great!)

@haz_kaj:They talked yesterday about how they didn't get a review code for Nioh, so will have to get it at retail. They will cover it when they prepped it a bit more.

They've also had a little bit on their minds.

Oh man, I really liked the plunder mode in Warzone. But I say this as a person who hasn't been able to get into any battle royale modes in any games. I like the size and layout of the maps, but just have trouble with the "loot loot loot die done" loop of them. This gives me a way to try out those maps. I feel like the helipads (where you bank cash), contracts, and pointing out the players with a lot of money creates choke points and hot zones... and seeing your money go away as you die adds a decent amount of tension.

But I kind of get the impression that the point of it is to be a battle royale experience for people who aren't into battle royale. And as one of those people, I'm liking it a lot. My main complaint is that they don't tell you where you ranked when the match ends. Throughout, it'll tell you if you're in the top 10 or top 5 teams... but then it ends and it doesn't mention where you ended up, which seems super weird to me.

The big ending joke of Goose Game was one of the best moments of the year in gaming for me. Maybe the Hotline Miami-ripoff gorilla murder game has something on its level, but I'm not holding my breath.

@jeff In Warzone, check 'Don't fill' and you'll play either solo, duos or threes, depending on how many people you have in your party. No separate servers for each, though, unfortunately.

Imagine your favorite song, transposed down half a step and two beats per second slower. It's still basically the same song, and someone hearing it for the first time could still enjoy it. But if you knew the song intimately, it would strike you as very odd.

I'm curious about this as well. Seems like a lot more time and $ investment than regular old emulation. All the MiSTer content I've seen on the site is loading up random games for 5 minutes max, so is the difference really worth it? Genuinely asking.

@haz_kaj Hmm. Kinda seems like a weird knee-jerk response to have over a lack of coverage for a specific game, but you do whatever you feel ya gotta do.

Other recent gaming podcasts I listen to haven't mentioned Nioh 2 at all, sooooo.... these things happen?

@haz_kaj: Good riddance. The less entitled people like you on GB the better. I honetly love the fact they cover whatever they like, even smaller indie games I have never heard of. If you want Ni-oh coverage there are plenty of other websites for you to browse.

On the Beastcast, I laughed myself silly at the intro When G starts talking about taking sniping position.

That's more then a bit harsh don't you think? The person your responding too didn't attack people who liked it, didn't call for non premium members to boycott, didn't personally insult people because of different opinions. Regardless of how you feel about GB's current content, I dare say there is nothing entitled about someone deciding to spend their money elsewhere. Nor for them to say so and explain why/what they hope might change in the future.

This is what I keep hearing, that it's "not the same". But what does that actually mean for games?

@avioto: A lot of times it sounds like people say that when they mean the slowdown or frame rate is not quite "one to one". To be honest, it ends up sounding like a form of gatekeeping, where they feel like it is more legitimate than an emulator because it required more work to set up and is using specific, physical hardware, rather than only some program people put together.

@epidehl: I don't get this logic. The emailer didn't say audio books suck or ppl shouldn't listen to them and enjoy them or that they shouldn't have a book club. Just simply that reading a book and listening to the audiobook aren't the same. Do you watch playthroughs of games and tell ppl you beat the game? Reading and listening are 2 different things. Watching and playing provide 2 different experiences. Ppl should enjoy w/e they want to enjoy however they want to enjoy them. Doesn't change the fact that they aren't reading the book. It has nothing to do with gatekeeping anything.

People can absolutely play whatever they want however much they want, but saying stuff like who has time to play a single player game multiple times while doing the same thing over and over again for hundreds of hours in a multiplayer game always confuses me. I don't really replay games to get different endings, but I'll new game plus a Sekiro or something here and there. The only things with static content I'll replay are things I put in my all-timers list. To that end, I've been getting the itch to play Nier: Automata again, but with so many things coming out that'll have to wait quite a while.

It's great to have the coasts together on podcasts. Too bad Alex wasn't around for most of it.

It sucks, but I don't really think we're going to see much Nioh 2 on this site. Jason doesn't seem to have a whole lot of time for long single player stuff now. Brad seems like someone who could be into it but clearly he is a Doom guy.

I've exclusively consumed Sanderson novels via audible and the narrators are so incredibly good (particularly Michael Kramer's incredible range of accents and voices) that I can't imagine just reading it.

@haz_kaj: Giantbomb has put out the best content of any podcast on videogames and is number 1 for a reason. Nioh is and never will be their cup of tea. Its hard and systems heavy. Jeff already from day 1 said Dark souls was a bad game. He's lightened up on it since it became this phenomenon and influenced game creation. That said. It still will never impress him till the games are faster, better with checkpoints, less unforgiving battles, and has a more streamlined story. Nioh does some of this but doing it all...well that wouldnt be souls like it would just be bayonetta or something. Rejoin so you can get some other content they are working on. This is probably the best year since the team all has stuff their putting out that they are passionate about like Sims by abby, or pokemon by j, and we have tons of talk about jeff's baby to hear in the coming years. Hope you change your mind and if not stay dudder.

@liquiddragon: if staring at a screen and pressing buttons in some rhythmic sequence till the end pops on screen does it count if I watch a lets play of a game that includes choosing dialogue and literally pick all the same dialogue by tapping the screen or voting in a text box count as me beating the game. Here's a hint. Reading or listening still completes the task and has a reasonably same benefit...I read comics sometimes from descriptions on podcast...i imagine the pages and stories unfolding. It doesn't mean i didn't REALLY read the book. It does come off as gatekeeping. TWITCH DOES DARK Souls included thousands of inputting votes to make characters move that they were watching on screen. They beat the game...but according to your standards its nowhere near the same. Do you also not consider easy mode as beating the game if someone cant die on that mode...what about checkpoints. Point is, criteria are solely for you but for others, taking in their media is for them whatever way makes them take it in satisfyingly.

@avioto: I don't want to speak for the person you are responding to but the farther away you are from pure hardware simulation the more likely you will run into some oddities like screen flicker, 2d images not rendering exactly as they should, timing issues. You might have a game work perfectly for sixty hours then break suddenly due to a single error that the software emulation did not account for. Not sure if this answers your question but in short it it might run a game but you may encounter unforeseen imperfections through out.

I feel like this is an even worse comparison than mine. Fundamentally you are getting the same content from reading or listening to a book. If you want to have book club style discussion about the story and merits of the writing or whatever, there's literally no difference, because that's what a book is. (Unless it's one that does something weird with layouts and stuff, but I'd imagine those are rare.)

With games it's different because of, ya know, gameplay. I'd never say I beat Dark Souls because I watched Vinny do it on this site, but I'd probably say I'd "experienced" it or something. I could comment on the way it handles story/lore and broadly how I feel about some of it's mechanics, but not how it feels. These aren't really comparable scenarios.

And you're right, the guy might not have been "gatekeeping" per-se but he was definitely being a pedantic pain if nothing else.
