Wait, what does it mean "..whether the first Ninja Turtles' movie is actually good"? Of course it is. One of the best comic book movies to date!

TMNT is a better movie than any other live action 80's adaptation. Better than MotU, better than Bay's Transformers, better than that GI Joe... so on, and so forth.

Is it a good movie? Sure, it's good. Great? It has great moments, and mostly hits its themes of "even though this is the crazy 80s, family still means something."

However, it shows some strain and editing problems. Why does Danny know where the Turtles' lair is?

We are getting plenty of it on the other feed/other coast. But it really bums me to see no mention of FF7 in the write-up for this week or the tags. I'd really love to know Vinny, Alex, and/or Abby's take on the game. It is gonna really suck if we get to GotY and nothing else quite lives up to how good people are saying a given game is, and no one from one of the offices have even touched it.

The corollary to this feels like Animal Crossing, but even that has cross-coast people engaged with it. Its a silly worry in the grand scheme, I know, but I'd love to know the beast-coasts thoughts about FF7R.

edit-As people have replied to the original comment I won't update it. I will say, having now listened to the beastcast this week, the impression from the write-up and games tagged when I first saw it was wrong. They have not played FF7R yet, but Vinny and Alex both mention perhaps picking it up and wanting to take a look at it soon due to the positive coverage and opinions they have seen. While Abby expresses complete disinterest in playing the game, she makes clear why (it's something that doesn't seem up her alley at all), others on the beastcast have.

That was all I was originally hoping for, getting to hear the east-coasts opinion and discussion around the game, some of which we got this week anyhow.

@bladededge: I would keep in mind, I think with the outlook for the US, they're all going to have plenty of time to give it a chance. Just because it hasn't been played or talked about now on the East coast, I doubt that means it never will be.

Loving the video podcast! What time do they go live? Im in the UK and want to check one out live next week.

Every time they correctly mock our British/American pronunciations is like a dagger in my heart.

So turning the bamboo island into a tarantula island isn't as hard as you think. You don't have to dig up anything. You only have to chop down the bamboo and pick the flower petals, not dig them up. You can leave the bamboo stumps because bugs won't spawn on them. That's why it's the easy one. And it's one level with no interior water. I did it the other day and sold $400k tarantula's to Flick this morning. Also if you clap at the Dodo in the airport until he does the blush animation he's much much more likely to give you a rare island. Worked 2 out of 3 times for me so far

90's Turtles movie is great because it was based on the original comic and not the kids cartoon, everything after that has missed the point that TMNT is suppose to be a take on Frank Miller darker comics of the 80's.

The truly fucked up dark part of TMNT movie is at then end when after this whole nice scene where Splinter demonstrates that Shredder's desire for revenge will be what destroys him, Casey Jones just casually starts the garbage truck to painfully crush Shredder to death. He knowingly pulls that lever attempting to brutally end Shredder's life. Then he cracks a joke for the 8 year olds in the audience. Cowabunga!

@sethmode: I know that we will probably hear more from both coasts next week regarding FF7R. But I feel like this is one of those games that that come November aside from one person on staff(maybe Ben or Jan), the rest of the crew on both coasts will have to be reminded that it came out.

@bladededge: FF7 remake wont even get on the list for top 10. LOL even Persona 5 didnt get GOTY and you think a game Jeff already doesnt really like, most of the team forgot about or never played, will have the remake get on the top 10. Naw. It will get a mention for the story changes but opinions are too mixed. Jeff already knows the ending and didnt muster interest to play it given he didnt wanna play it if its just the same game either. Only way it gets top 10 is if the BIG C. makes it so many games dont come out this year, but i see these games taking over the list.

Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs: Legion, Animal Crossing, Doom Eternal, Nioh, ori 2, call of duty battleroyale, dreams, yakuza, grand blue,Ghost of Tsushima, Phantasy Star Online 2, Resident Evil 3, Cooking Mama: Cookstar

FF7 seems great but not gonna make a gb list.

This is a joke right? No one but Jason even touched Nioh 2, Jeff thinks kind of PSO2 sucks, no one likes RE3 really, probably only Alex will play Yakuza, no one but Vinny played Dreams, most of the crew was very lukewarm on Doom, and CoD isn't a new game. Cooking Mama was literally a recalled hot mess...and who knows what will happen with other game releases because of the pandemic delaying things and generally throwing a big wrench into society. FF7R however has a mostly really positive response, Jeff only hasn't touched it because it's his brand to hate/ignore any FF that isn't FFIV or VIII. Persona 5 was "robbed" so to speak, but it was in one of the most stacked years ever.

That's a neat guide. The only thing I take issue with is:

"You will not be able to find definitive proof of every crew member's identity. You will have to make informed guesses at times."

I think this isn't technically true. I've read another guide that shows there is fairly solid proof for every single person in the manifest, though the average person is unlikely to put together all the cues. Some of them are a bit of a leap, but they're in there. The worst it ever gets is maybe 1 out of the 8 stewards or something isn't easy to prove, but if you confirm the other 7 out of 8, you can prove who the last steward is because you see how he is dressed.

Having gotten to the part where Jeff mentions comics I thought I would chim in with my nerdy/geeky knowledge about the Batman stuff specifically.

The Dark Metal/Batman who Laugh's stuff is as follows. The current on-going (main universe canon) of batman has included "The Batman who laughs" as a character (Its what if Batman was infected by the virus that makes the Joker the Joker). This has included a whole bunch of alternative dimensions and realities and such. (I.e. the Batman who laughs is a "Dark Universe" version of batman).

There was a series of one-off comics under the Dark Metal/batman who laughs sub-series that were explorations of various "Dark Universe" versions of batman. "What if Batman killed the flash and absorbed his powers, What if batman killed green lantern and got lantern powers, what if batman was the punisher." These were done as spin off/tie-ins to the then current on-going main canon plot in batman comics, where these various villains showed up as opponents in the then on-going big batman over-arching storyline.

Post that storyline, The batman who laughs became popular enough that they brought him back as a recurring villain in another story-arc, with just him and not all those off-shot "What if batman but the flash" and etc stuff. If you've seen an image of a dude with a spike collar around his eyes and an evil joker grin in a bat-suit? That's "The batman who laughs". And it is, literally, an alternate universe Bruce Wayne infected with the joker virus.

So, long story short. Jeff was either reading those one-off tie ins about different versions of "Batman if he had X power set instead", the big dark-metal cross over event, or maybe the newer batman storyline with the Batman who Laughs as the main villain. My nerd brain just wanted to mention its not as he explained, an off-shoot/else world kinda story, but just what the main canon of batman was getting up too in one of his main books/series.

If you want a good else-world batman story with entirely differnt origins, self contained and non-cannon in the sense of a lot of tie-ins and such? I'd advice people to check out the White Knight series. Which asks "What if Joker was cured by Harley and tried to save Gotham as repayment for his past cimes". Cartoon wise, I have heard amazing things about the animated Harley Quinn series on the DC streaming service. In which, among other things, Joker murders scarecrow, Poison Ivy is in a real long term relationship with Kite Man (and also kinda/sort Harley) and Clayface is a thespian actor who never got a break. Some genuine good stuff from that series.

@bisonhero: Yeah I'm not sure about that either. I definitely couldn't find definitive proof of everyone's identity. Had to make a lot of guesses.

But that because it's very clever and I'm not :p Can't wait for Pope's next game.

There was an acquaintance I had in middle school/high school who very obviously did not brush his teeth in the morning. Could instantly tell whenever I spoke with him, because his breath was always terrible (even first thing in the morning). Don't do that to people - brush your goddamn teeth in the morning. Can't believe any of them were on the other side of that.

Wait, Jeff has expressed warm feelings towards FF VIII? I straight up can't remember him ever talking about that game. I have a real hard time imagining Jeff connecting with this too-cool-for-school guy who suffers from amnesia, but hey i guess it's possible.

Vinny mentioned that he sees crysis as the game that really used the hexagon aesthetic, and i remember that stuff being all over MGS2's screens 6 years earlier.
