I know Jeff was seeking to make a distinction between using a walk-through and looking up a few things, but "I wasn't using a guide, I was cheating" is a god-tier response.

Abby, please fix your chair, or use something else. The Beastcast deserves better than those squeaks. Just not too much better. It definitely deserved all that poop talk.

But for real, are you guys that hurtin' for those premium dollars? I'm sure we could crowdfund you some WD-40.

Alex - my storage needs are a lot less than yours, but still enough to warrant a NAS. I love mine and haven't looked back. Go for it.

Vinny you should play AC Odyssey as Cassandra (the canon character). I preferred this to AC Origins (personal pref), it was a great romp as Cassandra.

We call that the Fatberg in London, It's been an issue for the last few years due to fat/ grease from restaurants and homes being disposed of wrongly and I think it is illegal. On top of that, in the least few years, wet wipes and other bathroom products that don't dissolve are being disposed of causing issues.

We have a sewer system built in 1866 and even though it was future-proofed for the future, it has been way overcapacity. Currently, it is being upgraded with large engineering projects.

Something like that.

Just to say, Abby, your chair is absolutely fine.

Things make noises, get over it people! To say you can't listen to a podcast anymore because of a squeak every now and again is just crazy to me? Do you demand conversations in real life are held in complete silence?

My favorite thing about Just Dance now is for the past few years, you don’t have to buy the new one since it has the Unlimited thing, and you can play all the songs from all the Just Dance games. But it’s not worth it if you’re not vested. My daughter is addicted so we have it lol

English spelling is messed up because of the Great Vowel Shift (wiki) and our enthusiasm for borrowing foreign words without anglicising the spelling. Most of the current spellings do accurately reflect a words pronunciation, silent letters and all, but in another time or place.

Some people are just sensitive to noises like that. It's something they can't really help.

Some people just get threatened by anything. I guess they just can't keep it to themselves.

@ybbabby, FF7 was probably like, the Ocarina of Time equivalent for adventure games on the PS1- it was the switchover from 2D to 3D (actually intended for the N64 when it was still planned to be a disc system, and the biggest reason that Final Fantasy became a Sony property, true story).

I don't know if that puts the nostaslgia trip for everyone in perspective, but it's like if Nintendo remade Ocarina of Time with voice acting and just as resonant a story for a large demographic the series had, and then netted the trust of people looking forward to what adventure games could be with RPG's.

The major difference is that this game plays out more like an uncharted game in how they took notes from western games that let you play the story instead of having it entirely told to you. Probably again more on the same level as how Capcom handles the cutscene/gameplay loop in the RE remakes which are being received well for the same reasons; I guess you could call this the Resident Evil 2 Remake of FInal Fantasy's possibly. I am trying to explain why it's being recieved so well in contrast to a lot of oldschool-holdover the games have had until this remake. There is a lot of item thinking but it's not dense, and you basically hold a button and then press a button, and the beat em up continues. Mix that with realtime-character swapping where they all fight and converse in what used to be very broken segments between and it's kind of unreal to see how well they did it.

Anyway, you might totally hate it but I figured I'd try explaining why people for the most part really really like this game whether they played the original or any final fantasy- because Final Fantasy finally remade itself as a 2020's action focused game with the flair or some of the most highly produced animation stuff- back then and now- that said a lot of games look good now, so they sort of lost that spectacle draw, but they defintely still deliver on it. The Nobuo Uematsu soundtrack for 7 is above and beyond iconic too and you could get swept up in that by itself too. Give it a shot, it's one of those action games that pretends to be edgy and then gets real feely in a way I think you'd dig. Also I could see you totally losing it at how dumb some of the lines and reactions are because of delivery and writing that isn't 100% perfect; but that's another reason people like this remake; it's so much better a literal english version of the game as the PS1 version was notoriously weird. "Lets Mosey".

Actually if they don't use that line in-game I'll be really disappointed. I dunno, if you ever decide to play a final fantasy, this is the one you could get into and it would be a shame if hangups on previous games kept you from it. I don't know why I care about that, but you seem to like a lot of stuff this game tends to do well, and if you're expanding into japanese game history remade this would be worth a shot.

I'm really looking forward to Japan finding some universal replacement for toilet paper in my lifetime because some days I feel like Alex's cat.

Bitching about a chair during a pandemic when the crew have been shooting everything from home where they have mostly been stuck is peak GB comments.

I get that some people are sensitive to this stuff (because every podcast since the dawn of time has someone complaining about it on the internet), but this feels particularly picky.

I'm not usually too squeamish about videogame violence but I agree with Vinny that the executions in Gears Tactics are over the top and unpleasant. the fixation on the violence with the sudden closeups, plus the cold brutality of the executions, reminds me a little bit of Manhunt, which I definitely didn't like. new MK is super over the top but there's at least *some* degree of cartoonishness that is missing from this.

Additional commentary notes:

Tony Hawk is really cool Rodney Mullen is inspirational, so are a lot of skateboarders

AC:Valhalla after Odyssey is a 'prove this can be fun' after I burned out about a third to half the way through Greece

Jeff's backpedalling on guides was hilarious, and jesus some games these days make me feel like I'm ten years old trying to get through Ocarina of Time again, especially games with dense upgrade loops like Monster Hunter World or Warframe or GTA online

lastly Abby is the new dan lol

@alex Quarantine playthrough of Ghosthunter, when? You played it here once already!

I really wish that game would’ve controlled better. I tried playing it several times over the years and that was what eventually always ruined it for me. Keyboard&mouse controls would probably make things more tolerable.

Just about every language teacher I've had has echoed the sentiment that English is incredibly hard to learn. But the few people my age I've spoken to throughout various years of schooling who had moved to the US and had to learn English all said English was fairly easy for them. I remember specifically as I was talking to a Bolivian friend about Spanish class that he thought Spanish could be pretty hard to learn, with all the conjugation and whatnot, and that English was a breeze in comparison. Ancedotal, I know, but always found that difference interesting. Perhaps English is simply hard to master, but not to learn the basics. Or maybe it's mostly native English speakers that believe English is hard. I don't know.

Jeff talking to his son starting at around 2:10:00 or so without muting his mic was incredibly annoying. Hearing mumbles behind the rest of the crew trying to talk. Don't understand why he just didn't mute his mic, or why no one asked him to...
