2015 - Austin: Part 08

As the sun rises and fatigue sets in, Austin turns to the three things he knows he can trust to keep him going: Giant robots, Far Cry 2, and jazz.

The constant smooth jazz all night was flirting with disaster.

I really enjoyed the Far Cry 2 section. I like how deep and broad Austin looks into games. Far Cry 3 & 4 were a lot more fun to me than 2, but Far Cry 2 always stuck out as a more memorable experience. The end of that game was a bummer though.

Since you're new to the crew, I don't think it's rude to say I'd love to see Austin do an Endurance Run with either the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Call of Pripyat. If you're reading this Austin, have you played either a lot? They are incredibly immersive experiences. They're fantastic games; especially with mods.

This is the first time I've ever seen Far Cry 2.. I played the first Far Cry, and this feels like a huge step down in visuals. That could be nostalgia, or it could just be the brown filter over everything compared to the first games tropical island motif. But... man, there's something about this game that seems janky. The voice acting seems so... off. And I can't put my finger on why. Is this running the way it should? It's an older game so I imagine Austin's PC can run it pretty well, right?

I feel dirty now.

If y'all enjoyed the jazz, I tried to make a playlist to capture the mood of the stream.

Love hearing the analytical examination of these games. Definitely helps fill the gap left behind by Patrick.

Yeah, FC2 sounds like a "You search for the activities and success" game, and the rest (and alot of those "empowerment at all cost" games are the same way) are "The activities and success searches for you" games.

Not being able to do jump back and forth between the two from time to time must be crippling.

Anyways, I like how the deep dive games breakdown got you a second wind there lol.

Watching this right before finishing my Master's degree. Makes me miss Austin on the sight a lot. @austin_walker you are right, yhe humanities do have a space for leaving graduate school with a grounded perspective on the world that (mostly avoids) ivory-tower idealism.
