@alex@danryckert@vinny Guys I'm begging you, for the sake of everyone trying to follow along, please don't switch to the extended versions. Not everyone already owns the entire blu ray or DVD set and its not easy to find the extended versions streaming, especially if you're not in the US.

Jesus Christ, Dan and his inability to understand the Letty/O'Connor cell phones bit. It's a sad day when Fast & Furious is too smart for you.

@ravage484: I just run the podcast on my laptop and play the movie on my ps4.

It's much easier to hit X on my ps4 controller and spacebar on the laptop at the same time for pausing, if necessary.

@alex I know you guys hates it when fans demands you guys do something, so i would like to ask for a favor instead. I have recently move back to asia to be with my family and I have taken to playing with my 6 year old niece and nephews. I love hanging out with kids they are great, heres the catch, they are waaaay into transformer movies. I cant watch them. My brain cant take it. If you take pity on me please consider doing this of at least one of those movies. thanks.

@stocksy2097: @renegadedoppelganger: @artisanbreads: @humanity: @ravage484:

I managed to get MPC to sync and play both tracks simultaneously (VLC can also sync audio tracks but not play both at the same time).

1. Turn off the internal Audio Switcher (Options->Audio Switcher). Restart MPC.

2. Open File->Open: movie file, Dub: commentary file. OK. Pause video.

3. You should have LAV Decoder tray icons. If not, you might've turned them off. You can turn them back on in the Start menu programs (Combined Community Codec Pack->CCCP Settings).

4. 1 Audio Decoder is for movie's audio. The other is the dub. Click on one and see Status tab. If Codec is mp3float then this should be the dub. Click Audio Settings tab -> Enable Audio Delay. In this case, set delay to about -96000ms. (They clap at 1:59 or 119 secs - 23 secs skipped logo = 96000ms)

5. Make sure the other audio decoder doesn't have any audio delay on. Remember to turn delays back off when done.

Hopefully that helps?

I generally cue up the video to match the episode notes, then play the podcast cueing the movie to resume playing as soon as they count down. No problems and if one or the other gets out of sync a quick pause/unpause fixes it.

@alex The "wtf cars are those even?" at 1:27:00 are a couple of GMC Suburbans, which probably isn't worth the impassioned "wtf," to be honest... but what you're likely referring to is the other black jeep looking thing which is a Lamborghini LM002, which is much more rare and well worth the wtf ;)

Also. Hot damned I'm pumped for 5 and 6!

I'm not sure if it's just me but I can't get this track to stay synced with the movie audio. I use a similar method to @renegadedoppelganger (extracting the movie audio, lining up the tracks in audacity, adding silence, etc.) and while you can easily sync the audio at the start by the time they bring the audio back in at roughly the 28 min mark it's out of sync. I tried to sync up the audio at that time but then that just made the beginning of the film go out of sync, so I'm really not sure what's up with that.

Edit: Yep, the longer this goes the more out of sync it is every time they bring the audio back up. I haven't had this problem with any of the other Film & 40s!

How else do you want Alex to respond? He can't say yes, he can't say no and he can't not say anything because that somehow means yes? That's kind of all the options.

I had this same problem with this movie specifically. I suspect they were watching an extended cut as the further into the movie they go the greater the delay between the commentary and movie becomes. This was not the case with the previous movies and Alex mentioned on twitter that they'd be moving to the extended editions for 5,6, and 7.

Looking at some comparisons it appears the extended edition of Fast Five adds 73 seconds over the theatrical release so I imagine the sync will be even further off in later films if you don't have the extended edition.

As someone who already owns all these movies in their theatrical form and went to the trouble of doing a whole bunch of extra work figuring out how to get the sync as close as possible, it's really disappointing that they'll be moving to a significantly different version of the future films.

This was maybe my favourite one so far. Still not that great of a movie, but entertaining and had a budget to it. Sadly I just eventually gave up with trying to sync the commentary with the movie, because of my inferior non-US release of the movie I was watching. Didn't ruin the enjoyment!

I don't understand why people go, "this is my favorite X" right before watching it like what alex did at the end. Why build exceptions for something right before seeing it, making it automagiclly worse when seeing it.
ANYWAYS, yeah Fast 4 got a bad rap but I had a fun time, and probably would say its better then 1 for me even with the laughable CG

@ravage484: you should be able to use autohotkey for that. this one is a good start if you go that route.

I use Auto Mouse Click, it's super easy to use and works really well, you just need to have it capture the screen coordinates for both pause buttons and then just make an action that quickly clicks on those spots and you're good.

This solution seems like the least amount of effort and is useful information for other tasks too. Thanks.

Excited for next week's Fast 5. Fast & Furious is the most boring other than one.

@humanity: I play the blu-ray on my pc, start the movie, stop at 23 sec, start the commentary, and unpause movie when the trio gives the signal. If anything it someties is out of sync by a sec, but it doesn't bother me.

Has anyone figured out what version of Fast Five they're going to watch? It seems like all the DVDs I have so far are completely wrong, and I'm going to guess the Blu-Ray of 5 I have is going to be wrong too.

I've been resorting to renting them on Google's store, but with 5 on-wards I'll have to commit to buying them as they're unavailable to rent.

"Extended edition Blu-Ray" is not specific enough at all, I'm seeing conflicting lengths of 130, 131, and 132 minute versions.

Fast and Furious was even more enjoyable than normal with this commentary. It's a good movie that's got the series back on track. Tokyo Drift nearly ended the franchise but Lin was given another show with this one and he and the writers got it figured out. It really is a good setup for everything that's about to come.

I think their commentaries on Fast Five and Furious 6 are going to be some of the most amazing content the site has ever produced.

And why can't Bad Boys 1 and 2 be Film and 40's editions??

I'll admit defeat, 4 is better than I remember. Still least favorite because 2fast is just so dumb and has a great bad guy. Honestly, watched 7 yesterday cause I still hadn't seen it and didn't want my first viewing to be with commentary, weird feelings about that movie...do some things right and some things waaaaaay wrong.

I'll agree that 4 is way better than I remember it, as was 2! I still think they deserve the order they get, and I'm with Dan, I don't think Tokyo Drift is all it's cracked up to be due to overhyping.

This movie definitly had more story than 2 and 3, but i considerably liked this one less. All the 'grittiness', revenge and bad CG didn't do it for me. it even had a 'you and me, we're not so different' line. It also felt like it was retracing many steps of the 2nd movie, with the entire 'druglord holds race to find out which of the 4 riders is worthy, and bad lady might not be as bad as you think' .

Paul Walker rides through a tunnel once and knows where the tunnel is located and even manages to find two weak spots in the walls without damaging his car? He then goes down a wrong road in the tunnel and manages to find a weak spot in that as well, that the bad guys who know these tunnels like the back of their hand never knew about? :/

The parkour bits also date this so much. Reminds me of James Bond did it in Casino Royale to fit the zeitgeist. For more Paul Walker Parkour, see Brick Mansions.

Honestly, I think this is the first one that's at least been done somewhat competently. Still some awful CGI but other than that it felt like a real movie and not just like weird car porn or some overproduced early 00's music video.

I've seen 5, 6 and 7 but don't remember much about them.

I agree that this movie is a transition period where it hasn't yet quite found its proper identity, but that only makes it worse sort of in retrospect, compared to Fast Five and friends. FnF is solid step forwards. It's totally better then 2Fast and Tokyo Drift. 2Fast is wackuous and hammy, Tokyo Drift is meandering and unengaging. Although 2Fast is "good", just...that's not the right direction, that's the path towards direct-to-DVD.

I think FnF is worse than the first one primarily because the action in the first one is better, feels more real, has more impact. That FnF drug tunnel is a confusing CG mess. There's supposed to be stakes, but I just can't care about whatever the hell is happening on the screen, can barely follow it. And they use that crappy set piece twice. The only good part is when Vin Diesel literally airjacks that other car.
