Fuck yes yes yes. This is the best zombie film of the 80s.

I hate horror and zombie movies new and old, but i'll watch this for the commentary, once i find a way to rent it.

Holy shit! Out of nowhere. I uh.. oh god pls be on netflix or prime.

For us UK folk this is easily available on Netflix.

I'll check this out maybe once I've read some of the feedback here. The last couple of F&40's I listened to I had to abandon because they had devolved into constant shouting about things completely unrelated to the movie, and I found it too distracting. Hopefully this one is more chill.

I'm into the idea of a "horror" series though, as I typically avoid that genre and this could be finally an excuse to watch some classics.

Also for US folks, it is free with a Prime subscription. I’m hoping/assuming it’s the same version as the blu-day.

Have they announced the other movies they will be doing by any chance? Very curious to see the list. Hopefully they do this every year!

Cool. I just bought this on Blu Ray at Walmart yesterday in preparation for this to release. I don't even remember liking this movie.

Maybe it will be better now. Or at least better with this commentary over it.

Edit: This is not the movie I was thinking of. I must have gotten this mixed up with another zombie movie. It was alright. I don't think I ever saw this before. Pretty cool, campy, bad 80s horror.

Tarman is the coolest

One of my favorites as a kid and still to this day. Movie really holds up.

I've never seen this movie, really glad I decided to watch. That was better than expected honestly.

Avoid the sequels like the plague though.. they are pretty awful.

I have a fundamental problem with Return of the Living Dead. (Beyond the fact that it's not a proper Romero Living Dead title.)

It introduces the concept that zombies eat brains, which makes no sense. The only way to kill a zombie is to destroy its brain. If zombies eat brains, they're destroying the brain of the person they're eating, which means that person can never turn into a zombie. This would lead to an ever declining number of zombies; they're destroying themselves. Some people might get bitten on the arm and get away and turn later, but there's never going to be large hordes.

Oh hell yeah, this movie rules.

'Send More Paramedics' were a great thrash band from Leeds that sang songs about being zombies. They managed to keep the act all the way through live performances too.

This one is more of a black comedy ala Shaun of the Dead.

@lordtrapula: Just finished watching it, it was very entertaining.

Well I mean. RotLD zombies eat brains, are not killed by destroying their brains, and don't infect people when they bite them. People are infected by the gas, not the zombies. The zombies never spread the gas in the movie save for when they get burnt up and release the toxins. By eating brains the zombies are easing their existential anguish as discussed within the film and are in no way harming their ability to procreate as they don't really have one nor interest in one. As they don't play by the brain rule anyhow this is a bit of an odd point to raise as an issue with RotLD.

This was so much fun to watch again. I remember it seeing 10 years ago and enjoying it a lot. It was great seeing it again but this time with the crew!

Btw, there are 2 sequels. The second one has returning characters and is just as silly, but ultimately inferior. The third one is not worth your time.

Yes! LOVE this movie! One of my all time faves! James Karen never fails to crack me up and almost steals the whole movie. Also, for Alex: Ernie's gun looked more like a Luger, maybe?

The soundtrack is amazing, I agree with Alex. In fact, back in the early days of music file-sharing one of the first tracks I hunted down was Roky Erickson's "Burn The Flames" which is the song that plays briefly as Frank is immolating himself. Love that song! :)

I don't remember much, but "Return of The Living Dead 2" is also pretty goofy/fun. Has some of that hot flamethrower action I think.

I feel like Burt/Bert is the guy no one wants to be, but everyone actually WOULD be during a zombie outbreak.

Also did not realize how much the zombie episode of Community directly references this movie! Fun times.

So hyped to listen to this, ROTLD is a goddamn classic.

...it's a horror comedy, duder. It doesn't need to make sense.

@bybeach: In my experience Film and 40s are best when you've already seen the movie, so you can focus on their commentary/reactions and not worry about missing some dialogue. Hope you enjoy it!

I watched Return of the Living Dead when I was young and it's definitely one of, if not my favorite zambie movies.

Seems to be no way to watch this in Sweden. No blu-ray, no DVD, no streaming.

UK to the rescue. €8 including shipping is quite reasonable.
First time I've ordered from Base, hopefully they're ace.

Their product description is a bit lacking, you'll have to go elsewhere for that.

Just watched Return of the living dead part 2 a few days ago, its a lot less fun than the first. I thought it was just OK, but to each his own.

Starts around 4 mins in for those who wanna jump too it. Or..4:10ish.

At least that's the time-code I'm gonna use to come back to this in the morning.
