I don't get how a video game magazine like this can have 8 hours in one day and make a 24 minute video. Like how what do they do for the rest of the day? No work on Monday or Tuesday and in 2019 quick looks are getting shorter.

D-d...does this have to do with the government shutdown? If such is rhe case this is the real national emergency. Come on Y'all can be better in two thousand and nineteen.

I had a good time playing the trial version but $50 is way too much. I could see myself getting this when it hits the $20 range.

I think they need weight measurement is imperial and metric, at least two voices in at least a few languages (English, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Hindi), and a 'create a character' system. Six faces and two languages is really skimpy for modern game of this type of game that is otherwise fairly simple

Its is great they went out and go music people would know, but they really dropped the ball on having a full game. There are only a few hundred words and a dozen phrases the voice actor should have had to record...so why skimp on that?

Just think, if you wanted to practice another language, you could count and repeat a few phrases - THAT adds value the product. Adding more does not detracts from teh profitability if you see more units; because the product is more inclusive, more full featured, and thus more attractive.

I think you've just been spoiled by the extra long quick looks of the past. Arguably the greatest quick look in the history of the site, Rogue Warrior, is only 23 minutes long.

@steveurkel: they’ve actually sorta gone over this in the past and apparently they have to attend a whole bunch of meetings throughout the day. Not sure if that’s everyone or just the heads of each coast, so Jeff and Vinny, but apparently its meetings and quick look prep takes a long time as well.

They almost remember to check the price of the game beforehand like most of the time these days.

@steveurkel: They are in a corporation. Most of their time is spent in meetings and emails and Slack messages!

Also, sometimes they dabble in games and then decide to not go through with a quick look.

Lastly, never underestimate the time needed to prep.

The last developer interview was months ago, there's no written articles by the crew (except for Rories community stuff) and hasn't been for months either, traveling stuff happens like once a year, podcasts are not written they are recorded mostly live, what kind of research? What coordination beyond a "release schedule" is really needed?

When is the last time you've "read" a review? Those are by now also "off-the-cuff" podcast style recordings, with out of context stock-footage played over it, GT did that kind of stuff way better over a decade ago.

Don't get me wrong, I couldn't really care less, but it feels like a legit question these days. Many people still remember times when the crew was small and it felt like you were 24/7 up-to-date with what was going on and what they were doing.

A lot of that feels lost since the move back to CBS and the split into East and West, and in that context one really has to wonder what all the duders, and the dudette, are doing all day long during those slow weeks were maybe 1 QL gets uploaded.

Maybe that's an idea for a new video feature: What goes on at GB when they ain't recording themselves playing video games? Make it something regular, like the unboxing videos used to be.

I'm a sucker for "exertainment" games, so I definitely jumped on buying Fitness Boxing at release.

While Dan is talking about not getting a serious workout out of this, there are higher speed and intensity levels that I've found actually get me moving more than enough to break a pretty serious sweat. I'm in decent shape and my heart rate is well above 140 doing that. So I mean, if you want to get some cardio and you hate running (like I do), this is kind of a fun alternative.

It also makes me laugh. I find it pretty fun because it's a bit absurd. There are actually similarities to Just Dance.

The game's fitness tracking is laughably bad, though. I have an Apple Watch, so I track heart rate and such using that instead. I'm talking like, its calorie estimates are a fraction of what my watch tells me based on my heart rate.

I don't know, maybe I put more into it than the average bear to get myself sweating.

I'd be hard pressed to pick my least favorite generally benign but still super annoying thing that has come with the internet, but "assumptions about the day-to-day job of other people in a field that I only consume the end result of" is definitely a contender for number one.

Reminds me of the earlier days when people claimed that all Ryan did was "edit a podcast and really, is that even a job?"

Who cares? They work for a huge corporation. If they aren't working or doing their job or fulfilling the needs of the company that employs them someone in charge of that will make sure it's happening. We don't know what happens when the cameras are off and that's probably by design. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean nothing is happening. Just because the staff puts a lot of themselves in their videos doesn't mean you have to know every aspect of what they do. No matter what they do the end product is putting shit on the site. I can only assume what they do day to day is for that purpose and the rest is not important or simply not for us to know.

I get being curious and that's fine but the entitlement vibes I'm getting from this rubs me the wrong way.

Games like this always make me wonder what's up with the musical licencing for this.

Are they purchasing a package of 'Bad Romance' done in a ton of different styles by the original artist a la audionetwork, and the developers picked the 'upbeat workout midi version, no vocals ' of the song? Did they make these versions themselves? Does this require a licence or is it fair use even if it's done for a commercial product? Can you still title a song Bad Romance - Lady Gaga if it's your weird in house version of the song that might not be fully representative of the original product and might damage the perception of the original song & artist? Like if it's a cover or remix, shouldn't it be clearly marked?

PS. Good Abby commentary on this one :D

@nethlem: Well, the "What goes on behind the scenes at GB" is what Ben's Lens is all about, no?

One GiantBomb's biggest positives - in fact, *the* biggest positive and the reason I've subscribed for the last 5 years - is that it is, at its heart, an employee-driven company.

The GB Staff doesn't release content until it's ready to be released, and they don't follow some sort of arbitrary "must produce X pieces of content Y minutes long" formula (which is a great way to burn out your staff and make them resent their jobs).

Also bear in mind that the site redesign is in full swing and requires all kinds of meetings & discussions across teams. During the last Devcast episode they mentioned that the editors were having some issues & bugs on their side of the site as well and that they're looking at adding some new power user functionalities to the site. All these things take time. All these things require stakeholders to be involved in the process and give their feedback.

Wholeheartedly agreed. I tend to assume part of it comes from consuming so much content from people who do literally nothing else but work, upcoming youtubers and the like. Of course GB falls short in that regard, they are running a sustainable business, have families and lives outside of video games. That's also why they've been doing this for 10 years and didn't burn out after a couple.

Also this.

The crew works harder than any other site. Unlike sites that source out content such as ign which reviews tons of games but only plays big ones and outsources reviews hence their current quality control issue, GB does all in house. They put up tons of work and they have new teammates who contribute to just about everything from what we fans see. They are extremely busy. Instead of saying they should put up more maybe donate so they get money for trying more stuff. (i mean ask others to join subs since theirs no donate button i believe.) Their work is always great and funny. The reviews changed cause as jeff said they were dated and he doesnt see reviews that are written and graded as a thing that will last. He just enjoys talking about games and showcaseing their flaws and goods.

THAT said ill play other advocate. Most people on the site are fans or super fans so they wont see the flaws you see so i dont wanna seem like im just hating on you cause your not 100% on board with anything and everything GB does. If your looking for tons of content i think the crew is fixing things on their end and things will be back to normal soon. Once more games come out they will likely cover the ones of interest. GB doesnt seem like a company thats die hard get the numbers up did we meet budget this week wheres my raise so i cant see them being busy for busy sake. So theirs that. I also dont think its fair to label you entitled for asking a mere question about content you pay for. If you find your Mcdonalds burgers taste different then before its fair to wonder and question the work issues that may have lead to it. Your a customer and its ok to ask in my opinion of course. Just come off nicer and you wont get the snap combacks from fans who dont see the issue you have.
