Horizon Zero Dawn is a boring game and does not need a remaster.

Also I welcome our new corporate overlords.

Umm.. what's going on here? Are we not understanding the terms Remaster/Remake again? Desperate move? This needs tidying up a bit. They're not remaking Horizon, they're updating the game with all the work they've done to the PC version. They're not spending a lot of time Remaking the game, this is work already done porting the game.. Let's keep the info factual shall we. No need to rant about the wrong idea here.

Fandom has just bought Giant Bomb (and other RV companies) for $55 million?! What does this mean for GB? Did everyone get a big paycheck, are job's safe?

@shtinky: The opening section of this video has a discussion about it. Things seem positive for now, as Grubb expects more flexibility and resources available to pull off ideas that they have while RV either didn't have the resources to help or were slow to approve. It doesn't answer every question, but I wouldn't expect them to be able to (or know at this stage).

Red Ventures sounds like an awful company. I wish them the best in their future endeavors.

@blahmoomoo: I feel like history's destined to repeat itself over and over with Giant Bomb. As long as they are owned by corporate companies, the staff will never have true freedom, and in a couple of years, this current lot will leave and go independent, and a new lot will come in, and the cycle will just keep repeating. It makes it hard as a fan to invest time in to it, because you never know what's going to happen next; who's going to get a paycut and feel compelled to leave, etc. This site has been bought several times now (Whiskey, Cbsi, Cnet, Red Ventures, Fandom, etc), and each time we hear the same thing about positive incoming changes, etc, but it never lasts.

Also the worst thing is, it seems like these companies don't actually care about buying Giant Bomb, and that Giant Bomb is just the little freebie that came with what they really paid for, which is GameSpot, GameFaqs, Metacritic and the other sites.

@murderdeathmill: while i see where you're coming from, Im not sure what you want him to say. "Here we go again, we're all doomed!" I think Jeff was pretty careful about his wording. I just don't think that insulting your new boss is the move

Feel bad for people who have to pay 70 bucks to get accessibility options for Horizon 1.

Even though the content lately has been very good, it seems like it was all smoke and mirrors now that this new buyout has been announced. I see now why Jeff Gertsmann got out when he did. He knew the Giant Bomb that he envisioned is no longer a reality and went freelance. All I can say is best of luck, because like someone said, it seems like this is going to keep happening until GB finally comes to an end in 5-10 years if not sooner.

Mike's reaction to the Horizon Zero Dawn remake was exactly how I felt when I read that headline. I mean damn, another remake of a game you can already play on the system. Sure the accessibility are a plus and will allow for more people to play the game that otherwise couldn't. If you really want that to be to good faith jester that it should be it should be offered as a free update. But like all the others I just will not engage with it and sit back and laugh and shout "Why are we doing this?!" and move on.

@av_gamer: It seems unfair to dismiss their recent efforts as “smoke and mirrors” to distract from something. Like, they can’t be making good content just for the sake of making good content? They must be making it for nefarious “smoke and mirrors” reasons? Is this what you believe?

I imagine the day-to-day is: they’re trying their best to cover video games, working with/around whatever other mandates their corporate owners are also imposing. They did it under CBSi, they did it under RV, they’ll do it under Fandom.

You’re really extrapolating quite a bit about the future of Giant Bomb, despite Giant Bomb’s game coverage not looking that different from 2019-2020 late CBSi/partway through COVID era. I don’t see how you could possibly think “ohh one corp selling GB to another corp” is somehow providing you great insight into why Gerstmann left. Jeff is a guy, not a prophet.

Finally listened to this, and I’m glad they at least addressed the wiki (even if they don’t have concrete information yet). I doubt anything changes content-wise, at least in the near term, but I’m pretty anxious what this website will look like in late 2023.

Not gonna speculate on the inner workings of Red Ventures, but it seems from the outside that RV talked big early last year and then left GB on “read” after a certain point. Tough shit for them, they’re missing out on this cool weird thing going forward.
