Metal Gear Solid V did well despite losing a fan favorite voice actor.

@voiceinject: I would say MGSV did well in spite of its overall poor/flat story (Sutherland’s performance included), a story that A) fits weirdly with the overall chronology and frankly is just not that important or interesting, and B) is so self-serious and lacks levity, and misses all the camp of MGS 1-3.

The gameplay is great, but I don’t even know what Hayter could’ve done with that script. Hard to tell if they deliberately made Snake less talkative due to the structure of the game/the character, or if they had scheduling/budget conflicts with Sutherland where he just wasn’t available for very much studio time.

@voiceinject: That was done intentionally, because Venom "Punished" Snake was not Big Boss. That's why Konami didn't contact David Hayter for MGSV. It's not like the Taylor situation, where they offered her a low payday, then went and spent the money to get a well established VA in Jennifer Hale.

It sure seems like Gotham Knights is a ps4/xbox one game in both graphics and now frame rate yet somehow is only on the new consoles.

I'm mostly shocked people don't know what "utility" means.

Also very glad Mike is a site regular now, he's always great.

@av_gamer: Not true. If it were, then you wouldn't have Sutherland voicing Big Boss in all of the instances where there is no confusion over which character is which (such as the entirety of Ground Zeroes).

Hayter eventually revealed that he had to re-audition for the role of Solid Snake/Big Boss for every game, implying that Kojima had been trying to replace him since MGS2. Then for Phantom Pain, Hayter just flat out wasn't contacted (he found out about the game, called them, and was told that he wasn't needed), presumably because they had already secured Sutherland. That star fetish that Kojima is known for ain't nothing new.

For as much as we all may love certain actors in certain roles, it just isn't that important to a video game. I've never been thrilled with Reuben Langdon as Dante post DMC3 but it sure as hell isn't enough to get me to drop one of my absolute favorite franchises.

The Apex battle pass gives you your money back, and the free battle pass also gives some premium currency. Skins are super expensive but they also have loot boxes.

I've been having a hell of a lot of fun with Overwatch 2. I played a ton of OW1 when it launched, played it regularly for the first year or two, but then didn't really touch it since then until the OW2 beta. I did start playing OW2 several days after launch, so I missed the big outages. My only issue was being disconnected from the match when I'd get an Xbox achievement, but that's been fixed with that last patch. The monitization is very bad, but as Mike said, basically all f2p games have bad monitization. I'd say the only good one is Fortnite, but that's because they make so much money on it that Epic is quite generous with the monitization compared to seemingly all other f2p/live games.

@jeffgrubb I mean this to be helpful, a windows shortcut! Windows key+ . (period key) will bring up the windows emoji menu, if you want to save yourself some googling down the road.
