Game of the Year 2011: Jeff's Top 10

Sweet list! Deus Ex got some love, I am happy. Nice finale with the Saints Row description, Jeff.

Everyone should play Saints Row! What exactly is busted with the PS3 version of Skyrim? I've been playing it recently and don't seem to have anything go wrong.

Imma guess that the final GOTY podcast will be all Ryan and Jeff with Saints Row vs Brad and Patrick with Skyrim....and then Vinny with the deciding sway.

Jeff and Ryan both picking Saints Row makes me really excited for the final Game of the Year deliberations. It's going to be a dragon on dildo fight to the death!

3 for 3 on my staff favorite guesses. Alex and Patrick are the wildcards, I hope I've guessed them right.

I tend to think Jeff has horrible taste in games, but i can see that despite our differences we can see eye to eye on the fact that Saints Row the Third is the best game released this year.

I don't know man, they all had the same fervor about Bayonetta last year and that game was garbage. Cool list, still need to play MK.

I'll agree with that. It's the only game that made me stop playing Skyrim...

Jeff gave 4 stars to TrackMania 2: Canyon. Between this and Alex doing something similar with Saints Row: The Third (and probably other examples, if I cared to look), I'm not quite sure I follow where the line is between how much one enjoys a game and what score they think it deserves. In the case of TrackMania 2, perhaps it's because of the clunky interface and various other things surrounding the gameplay itself?

@Forum_User: They see reviews as purchasing advice, not necessarily their own ranking of the game within the list of other games.

I would just like to say that I think everyone here needs to play Saints Row: The Third.

And if you have already then start saying it as well, because man is that game amazing.

Just because a game is flawed, doesn't mean it can't be your #1 game. I recognize that Apocalypse Now is a technically better movie than Tango and Cash, but ask me which one I LIKE more.

I love the way you decided to present these. I'm happy the clips aren't as long as Ryan's, though. Those got tedious after a while.

Won't comment on the choices, that is a matter of taste, but this is the first time I saw footage of Trackmania 2: Canyon. That wall driving is amazing.

GOTY is gonna be a grueling debate between Saints Row: The Third and Skyrim.

@Forum_User: I think a review is usually a little more of a buying recommendation "for the people". Evene if you were super into Trackmania, you would realise that it's not for everybody. And that's what 5 stars on GB mean.

SR3 was pretty cool, never expected it to be a GOTY contender though.

I have got way to much to play right now, but the minute I get time, I will buy Saints Row The Third thanks to all of this praise from the GB crew.

And it wouldn't be Jeff if he didn't put Trackmania and Mortal Kombat 9 over Portal 2 and Batman. I may not agree, but I appreciate the change of pace.

Man, I wish my laptop CPU was a tiny bit faster so I could enjoy Saints Row The Third. Didn't have any problems maxing out almost every single multiplatform game on that list but my rig just isn't playing nice with Saints Row.

I think Ryan will fist-fight everyone for Saints Row The Third while singing "Power", and Brad will bite someones nose of for Skyrim as he pretends to use Shouts. Jeff will sit around and try to understand, where his heart lies. As for Patrick and Vinny, they will be the in-depended judges. Am I fine, if a 4 star game takes it this year, because it sounds that this game is f'ing crazy, and them some. After all, it is their game of the year.

I keep hearing that is Skyrim is busted on PS3, yet I'm 70h in and still haven't ran into any noteworthy issues... Bummer for those who have, I guess:P

Anyway, big thanks to Jeff for continuing to talk Trackmania throughout the year. It is the reason why I'm now playing it again for the first time since '06 and loving it.

@Goblin: I was at around 200 hours on my game, I could barely play it for 30 minutes before the frame rate really went to hell and the new patch made it unplayable because my game would crash 5 minutes after loading my save, or sometimes it could crash immediately after starting, if you didn't mention the word Skyrim, people might think we were talking about completely different games, I think that says something.

The writing is on the wall, Saints Row is going to win the GOTY.... what a joke, seriously you guys need to walk out into the real world instead of just existing in your bombcast land where the stupidest craziest game = the best game because that is not how the rest of us choose our GOTY.... but then again it is your opinion so who cares I guess.

Or it's possible they just really liked Saints Row The Third? The game has been critically acclaimed in more places than Giant Bomb.

At any rate, I don't think it will be GOTY. I think it'll be Skyrim, if the busted PS3 version doesn't disqualify it.

@sofakingcool: did you watch all the top 10's so far?? Jeff has Skyrim at no.2 , brad at No.1 , Vinny will probs be top 3 , patrick No.1 and Ryan not at all.

Jeff and Ryan will fight for Saints row to make a debate out of it with ryan really going for it before jeff giving in because hey Skyrim was his no.2 choice.

Every time I see Trackmania I warm to it a little more. I understand SR 3 getting much of the luv, my not being so much into it for another reason. Eventually I will get it on sale, I havn't got the Witcher 2 yet either. But at least he mentioned Deus Ex, if only at #10, Anybody mention Dead Space 2 yet?... Dark souls even..heh.

Nice to see Deus Ex get some love!

You can tell yourself that all you like but just as you said, the truth is Skyrim is broken and Saints Row 3 is a blast. If we're talking pure fun, Saints Row would whoop Skyrim's busted ass all day long

I would agree with putting SR3 over Skyrim. Skyrim would no doubt not be in my personal top ten. Neither was Oblivion. Jeff's taste in games is quite refreshing.

I really gotta play Saints Row. It's sitting on my shelf! God damn it!

Also, when I saw Jeff's transition, I burst out laughing.
