I'm glad we got the individual staff award videos this year - they've felt like a good approximation of the more niche categories that don't make the cut in this format. Really enjoying the discussions so far, fascinated to hear how these pan out!

EDIT: The track Jan played from Fire Emblem might have sold me on that game even more than anything else I've seen of it.

Brad, the reason the Monster Boy music sounds like a modern take on Master System music, is because *it is*. It's called 'Side-Crawler's Dance' from WonderBoy III: The Dragon's Trap composed by Shinichi Sakamoto.

That first Wonderboy track you played is an orchestral version of the original wonderboy in monsterland music from the Master System.

Think the music award category should focus on best implmentation of music in the game, which could be preceded by the staff sharing their favouriteg game songs/tracks of the year.

The #1 job of a soundtrack is definitely its place in whatever it's the soundtrack for and not whether or not you like listening to it outside of that medium.

Man, I completely hate the Hypnospace soundtrack. Holy shit. That's the first time I'd heard anything from that game and holy God did it bug me. Am I old?

Outer Wilds winning Best Music heals the wounds of Undertale getting robbed back in '15.

For the record, Ben is right. I was already pretty turned off by the general tone of the game, but hearing that goddamn tune every time I turned on the signal tracker in Outer Wilds made me actively avoid talking to those hippy assholes.

I'm in shock that Dicey Dungeons didn't even get a mention for best music or best style.

Obviously there weren't enough people pulling for the game in general, with it seeming as if Abby was the only person to have actually played it, but the presentation is amazing and the soundtrack is even better, it's my soundtrack of the year - and I generally hate chiptune stuff! I couldn't even stick on a podcast or video in the background (even though it's a game suited to that) because I wanted to listen to the music - it's so damn funky!

I don't care if it won or was in the top 3, just would be great to see it get the recognition. But, anyway, I recommend it if you're looking for something that's brimming with a relentless, upbeat energy. Near impossible to not nod my head along to when above a certain volume.

Reminds me of a how I felt re: Subserial Network not being in contention for best style and soundtrack last year (another incredible, under-the-radar soundtrack I recommend), but at least Dicey Dungeons actually got a mention during the recap I guess.

Completely disagree with Dan. Blasphemous is everything I wanted Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to be: fun.

Not saying it would win or hang on the final list, but I think Disco Elysium should have been talked about for Best Style.

Since it has been claimed four times now, I find the timestamps to work just fine, even if not perfectly-100%, for non-podcast viewing/listening. Seems like it should rather be stated "These timestamps are 100% accurate to the podcast, but mostly work, to within a minute or so, for video (etc.)." Or something.

They didn't even get to the good part of the Shadowbringers Theme :(
