Weird to hear the guy direct the shots on the B-roll. This stuff is fascinating, thanks.

Man Majestic sounds so unlike anything else. I bet they could do this so much better nowadays.

Oh, I dunno. Something about Majestic really required those heady days of yore.

I didn't even know this thing existed, but it actually seems pretty cool. I genuinely appreciate that something like this came into existence, even if it didn't work out too well...

Think of all the social media they could get at you with! And the subscription/episodic business model has become more prevalent compared to back then. In fact, I am going as far as saying that Contradiction 2 should just be the next majestic game, detective rupert is constantly calling his chief up on that phone booth anyways, he might as well be calling YOU!

Here's my game pitch: its a modern ARG that uses idk snapchats or whatever the kids like now. And its about the cast of Majestic being killed off because they knew the truth

Oh man, this game was probably TOO ahead of its time, but it was definitely unlike anything I had ever played.

After you install it there was an account creation page, and when you put in all your information and clicked to submit, a "Page cannot be displayed" message popped up.

Then your phone rings.

It's a man, and he tells you that you might find it difficult to access the game now. He directs you to a news web site where you learn that the building for the company running the game has just exploded under mysterious circumstances, complete with video live on the scene from the local news station.

It's interesting, Super Hot actually seems to be doing a lot of this type of stuff, too, where it's that same kind of conceit of it being a real-world interface and talking to other "users"... although they're not doing phone calls or fax machines... and all of the text-based conversations you have are in the game-client itself.
Still, I they seem to do it much more successfully than Majestic, though.

Oh my god yes, that first night was amazing. Your group of players, huddled in a chat room on AIM, trying to make sense of anything as the night rolls on...

...And then someone, after doing some digging, finds some of the Anim-X employee's blogs, and post it in chat.

And then it turns out that some of the people you were chatting with were characters in the game, and the whole thing kicks off from there.

What a great ride. Still annoyed at how it ended on a cliffhanger. Kendra!

Also was fun when you were playing it with it on Full Immersion mode, and the phone calls don't have the "This is a call from Majestic" tag at the start. Especially when someone who isn't in on it (like, say, a roommate in college) answers it instead... and it's from one of those shadowy individuals who are threatening to break your legs if you don't stop prodding where you shouldn't.

I think I still have some Solitare1942 e-mails saved in my in-box somewhere.

This game reminds me a lot of "Missing: Since January" (known outside of North America as "In Memoriam"). It was a PC game centered around the disappearance of two people while investigating a series of murders. At the start of the game you would need to give it an email address, and characters from the game would email you information every so often, I think once you would reach certain milestones in the game. Additionally, there were some puzzles that needed to be solved by googling certain phrases and going to the correct result. The game is almost unplayable nowadays, as from what I could tell when I played a couple years ago, a few of the character's email addresses no longer send emails, and a few of the websites no longer show up as results when searching for certain keywords online. I had to use a strategy guide to finish the game because one account is supposed to email you a password or something, but that was one of the deactivated accounts...
