It's actually kind of fun to watch Dan be forced to learn new things. Vinny can teach him a lot.

Watching them try to explain how transmissions work and seeing Dan's brain break, while figuring out how to shift was amusing. "Are the gears in the pistons" and then them using engine noise to explain when shifts happen... oh man.

Awesome Dan is still making broad generalizations based off one piece of content from a Network...if I was like him I would hate GB just based off Danswers.

Hey don't buy mid grade gas ok?

For people who think a clutch is in the engine, just buy whatever the owners manual for your car says. Higher octane just reduces knock and if your car isn't designed for it, it does nothing.

No Caption Provided

Uhm, can you elaborate? I have a ten year old Sebring, the little beast only has 70k on it but if I give it trash it shows it's sass. Mid-grade is a fair trade for a smooth sail without fail.

AFAIK it was common knowledge that higher grade fuel helps old engines last longer and a lot of people who do cars for a living reccomend running mid/high tanks once in awhile if you run cheap to "clean out the pipes", despite vehicle age.

As soon as I was going to comment about Radio Lab Abby, mentioned it .. More perfect is also a good NPR show.

Edit: The Flagstaff is pretty good in ATS.

I don't understand Vinny's NPR logic. The quality and/or enjoyment of a radio station is based on its inoffensiveness?

These types of streams are some of my favorite. That was great GBEast. I would very much like a Flight Club style show with Abby and Dan on the controls.

I love the 24 hour truck marathon they were talking about. Maybe they could work out a sponsorship thing with thrustmaster to get everyone sorted out with wheels.

@castiel: Yeah, looks like a word was dropped or there was an incomplete revision. "Starts preparations" would be grammatically correct. You could also say "starts preparing" (gerund form) and "starts to prepare" (infinitive).

Every Sunday I watch a guy on twitch do nothing but play Euro Truck, though occasionally he pays ATS. It’s just so damn relaxing, it’s great no matter if I’m chilling or cleaning.

On a random side note: Anyone kno wwhat song is playing around 35:50 mark?

It was so funny, I live in Finland where manual transmission is the norm (mostly cabs use automatic), and my father literally tried to explain to me in the way Vinny went with the engine noises how you know when to shift gears. But I was 12, not Dan age.

My room mate been asking me what I want for Christmas and I told her the only thing I really want is a driving wheel for dirt rally and forza horizon 3 on pc. Is that a g29 the guys are Using? I've done some research and that seems to be the best mid range wheel choice.

Knowing how to drive manual is a potentially valuable skill, yes. But I'm kind of with Dan on the "But why though?" for every day use. I'd much prefer to drive an auto and not think about it. Then again people who've done it forever probably don't really think about manual shifting at all.

Did Vinny just make some sort of weird big-ish deal about people in the desert having water and ice machines? What? Why would any of that make you feel like a dick?

Yes, the water has to be piped in. Just like the gas in your car has to be piped in, Mr. Caravella.

Because if you ever enjoy driving aggressively, slamming up a gear in a single fluid movement is about the most fun thing you can do whilst driving.

You ever see DK slap his gearstick in Tokyo Drift? I can't do that (I assume you need a specialised lightweight stick) but with a little practice you can do just about the same thing with the ball of your hand and it feels baller as fuck if you get the timing right to slap up a gear whilst coming off a roundabout at speed whilst managing your indicators (just because you're being a cool driver dude doesn't mean you can't also be safe!)

That jean jacket and backwards cap is a very good trucker look.

It made me think of the 90s more than truckin' but works for either.

Oh my word, Dan learning to drive a manual vehicle and forgetting to not move his head around is one of the best moments of 2017.

Maybe it's because I'm in the UK and driving manual is standard, but Dan was making this way harder on himself than it actually is. Also known as "classic Dan mentality".

The time when dan got the shifting up from second to third to fourth somewhat smoothly done the first time... I was a little proud of him! Great stuff.

Next time, do Assetto Corsa with Dan on the wheel with H-pattern shifter. Just "hotlapping" a 5 corner course. (Or pcars2, but Assetto is better, don't do GTS or Forza for that, the steering force calculation is artificial there and the clutch is completely wrong)

Edit:

@LTSmash and @Mctittles, modern gearboxes are constant-mesh(synchromesh), the gears themselves are not moved along the shaft and into a gear on the other shaft, instead you have free and fixed gears that the gear lever switches the configuration between. (Bad explanation, sorry, just look it up if you're interested).

Fake edit 2: Automobilista is a very fine sim racing game (based on rFactor, which current Formula 1 simulators are still based on) that features racing trucks like the one in Forza, but realistic (at least as soon as the turbo update arrives next week).

As for black dogs.
