Playdate: Assassin's Creed Origins (06/29/2018)

Ever hear about GTA Online apparently that’s a thing that is a thing.

Wow I literally just finished the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC to get caught up before Odyssey. Good timing!

Abby is a great addition to all our lives.

Ok I’m confused. I haven’t finished Origins either so I wasn’t going to watch this but I’ve gone at least a few missions past the Cleopatra mission he started. How close is he to finishing? I’m starting to think I’m a mission or two away.

Edit: I just finished it. I was less than an hour from credits. Hadn’t played since January…

I'm looking forward to this. I've been playing AC:Origins lately and it's very very good. The best one since 4. Maybe better than 4. My only problem is it still suffers from filler. The filler is better than 4, though, so it's not too bad. I wish they'd just drop the "outside the animus" bits though. Those have become completely lame and meaningless now.

@paugerot: they really did, i realized that a ton of the ui design is just cloned from the witcher. I love it too though.

Origins is a damn good game, but i think it requires a strong interest in the setting. Bayek being an extremely likeable character helps though, his interactions with people in this world are very believeable. At times i even was moved by the small stories in this game, a remarkable achievement in an Assassins Creed Game of all things.

This game feels like it never ends and is a bunch of decent story vignettes and characterization that never seems to cohede (at least not yet?). Still enjoy it more than Witcher 3 personally and it's a goddamn pretty game.

This just makes me want to go back to this game

Figured that the only good reason they went back to Origins would be to check out the second DLC and it's fantastical scenery, but this is still pretty good. Kinda makes me want to play more, even though I finished the story.

I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I really hope that they didn't just abandon the mission to visit a brothel!

At 45 minutes in Vinny makes a sound and my day is made.

Chocobo with 4 legs disturbs me more than I ever imagined.

Their camerawork lately has been kind of weird. They frequently cut off the bottoms of their faces and it's weird.

Bayek is kinda overrated. Not sure where the enthusiasm comes from since the guy is your very typical, boilerplate protagonist on a revenge mission that also does side quests on the side. The writing is pretty dry and Bayek for the most part is pretty boring.

To each their own and all that of course, but elevating him above most other dudes that wanted revenge on a bunch of other dudes because of XYZ seems weird, especially when his wife was the one that actually had goals that reached beyond her immediate future and managed to work through that son thing and move on with her life.

yeah. i was extremely surprised that they actually kinda followed through on their "take a year break" promise. I went into it feeling like, OK, this is a pretty fun game but it's nothing special, but by the time the credits rolled I was all in on the new form of assassin's creed. they really nailed it

Bit worried that them going back to a yearly model will ruin it since odyssey is out this fall, but we'll see!

Genuinely Love what Abby brings to GB, but I couldn’t help but laugh at this how she would say Evie is the best assassin in the series but can’t even remember her name (great character, but best assassin? I respectfully disagree)

Same here. He's just so wholesome. Kind, good and caring. Also, really funny. He's the reason I've always been a fan of GB.

AC: Origins didn't change my mind about Assassin's Creed. I still think they are kinda bad games. That said, I did like this one enough to finish it and I still want to go back to do more of the DLC stuff. Just roaming around the world is fun. I would like more from the combat and stealth mechanics, but it's okay. It is a game I can fire up and just screw around while watching a video or listening to a podcast, etc. I'm disappointed that the next game just looks like more of this one. Disappointed, but not surprised. I got my fill with Origins, so I guess I'll check back with the series again in a few years. I don't need a new one every year.

I get where Abby and Alex are coming from in wanting AC to lose the Animus since the present day storylines have been inconsequential/bad for awhile. Black Flag had a nice, fun, side story feel to it after the Desmond storyline, but they haven't done much interesting with it since. However, the sci-fi elements have always been just as appealing to me as the historical settings so I guess I'd rather they put more effort into writing an interesting present day story instead of just giving up and dropping the Animus completely.

I still like the Animus conceit but I agree that the modern day story has lacked any kind of direction since they killed off Desmond. If you read through all of Layla's emails and blog posts I think they have the makings of a good character there, I just hope they evolve her more in Odyssey.

So unless I'm mistaken, Vinny spent most of this stream doing a sidequest after a letter confused him, right?

Like the letter is just a random sidequest that a courier gives you and it just happened to line up with Vinny arriving at the Brothel?
