Playdate: Life is Strange (11/20/2015)

Shame they're not going to finish this in time for GOTY, and it probably won't even be part of the discussion. Even if Austin and Vinny try to fight for it Jeff will just call it garbage and that'll be that. Oh well. At least the East Coast office is playing through the whole thing and enjoying it. Wasn't long ago that I wouldn't have expected any of the duders to even remember that this game exists, much less that it might actually deserve some sort of recognition for greatness.

+1 On the GOTY train. This game deserves to be on the run for it.

@customotto: Jeff has a knack for changing people's minds about games he hates during GOTY discussions, and he doesn't have to browbeat his way into it like Brad. Idk, I feel like the rest of the guys kinda look at him as a bit of an authority figure or something. He just seems to get his way a lot without really trying. Since literally nobody else on the west coast has played it, if Austin and Vinny want it on, Jeff says fuck no, and Dan and Brad have no opinion since they haven't played it, then this game literally has no hope.

He won't call it "garbage" though, I think that's what @customotto was referring to.

Okay....that's a weird thing to focus on. He'll call it "a bad game" then. Wtf is the difference? Besides, garbage is one of his favorite words. He very well might call it garbage.

@customotto: I swear he said somewhere that he played the first episode or at least part of it and really didn't like it and had no intention of continuing. He was also on the quick look and I vaguely recall him having some negative reactions to some stuff in that and just generally not seeming super impressed with what he was seeing.

Edit- saying that, the 'filtering based on who is in videos' is just silly and harkens back to the anti-patrick and anti-alex days. Oh well.

I didn't watch the whole thing again but at the end of the QL from January, Brad says he likes the game and the writing and Jeff agrees to both then says it seems cool.

@customotto: Oh really? Well, that's a good sign. I'd love to believe he's not hard on it, but I swear he was trashing the dialogue during the QL quite a bit and that he tried the first episode sometime later and didn't like it.

I don't know why people are complaining about LiS showing up as a feature since GBE already said they want to finish it up as a separate series. It even says "Playdate" just like it did with Contradiction. It's not replacing "Choose Our Own..."

Also regarding the QL, yes Brad and Jeff made fun of it (GB makes fun of all video games, cause it's fun to poke fun!) and hated Mr. Jefferson's douchiness, but they both thought it was a cool thing. Even said Max's voice acting was nice and Victoria being a well-written beeyotch, if you will. The crew have their own likes though, and the "condensed" GOTY list doesn't negate personal lists... so w/e.

Anywho, this is definitely a (good) surprise for me as Until Dawn was and will probably be on my own GOTY list.

What the hell are you saying? Jeff has never expressed any dislike of this game, and you should know by now that no one on the staff would let him bully them out of their talking up a game (not that Jeff has EVER done that in GOTY...). The quick look was Brad and Jeff showing that they really liked the idea of the game and liked where it was going. Stop trying to make Jeff out to be some guy who is super jaded about games.

I mean, I'm sure there are people who use it for that, but I've found it helpful when looking for videos where I can more or less remember who was on it, but not the actual name of the game being played.

No, this is obviously a separate feature as they said but continue to complain about nothing.

I don't see why they are just getting a pass for copying butterfly effect.

I firmly believe if you change one small thing the future can change dramatically, such as delaying William slightly, i know that sort of thing wouldn't play well in a game but thinking about the realities of the game's situations is driving me mental :P.

Is Chloe in the alternate timeline brain-damaged or just crippled? She didn't talk or anything during the reveal so I couldn't tell.

I love that the GBeast crew is playing through this. The three amigos seem like the right people to play this type of game. It's definitely one of my favourite games of the year. It's a damn shame that they'll probably won't finish it before GOYT deliberations are done because it definitely deserves some mentioning.

@alistercat: Chloe's voice actor is also the drug dealer in that same vault, and Victoria's is a minor character in another quest. Fallout 4 is full of em.

Was hoping they could get this all done before goty stuff. But I guess I'll just be happy they are still playing it at all.

In the following episode you can talk with her. She can speak but she's a little different from the original Chloe. It's a very powerful moment and I recommend you play through it yourself.

@shaunk: When the hell did I ever call Jeff a bully? I expressly said he gets his way without trying to, and it's definitely true. He'll mock it and pick it apart and everyone'll laugh and Brad will go, "yeah....." and change his mind about shit, at the very least. The rest of the guys tend to be swayed easily by him as well.

If I'm wrong about his opinion of this game, that's one thing. Like I said, I remember him talking about the first episode rather negatively. Negatively enough that he didn't think the rest of the game was worth playing, but maybe he just meant for him personally rather than it not being worth it for anyone. Or maybe I'm imagining shit, and if so that's my bad, but don't make me out to be some asshole who's against Jeff or think he hates games or something. He's allowed to think this game is bad, all I'm saying is it would make it incredibly hard for this game to be in GOTY discussions if he does.

It's a shame that they won't be finishing the series before GOTY deliberations (barring a marathon next week), but it's still great that they're at least setting a clear goal of finishing this before the end of the year.

Still not sure it's my GOTY, but if it isn't at the top, it's going to be at number 2.

Loved their reaction to the end of Part 3. I feel the twist at the end of Part 4 is my favourite; I definitely didn't see it coming. Life is Strange is such an excellent game.

This game definitely needs to be played before GOTY considerations for at least a few categories. It would be a bummer to miss your reactions to some of the later things if you don't stream it but more important to play through I think.

I at least want to see them play through episode 4 soonish because it's easily the best of the bunch.

Yeah, if they go into GOTY without at least playing through episode 4 it'll be a real shame.

Man I kept thinking this game is alright throughout this episode but then the ending.. man.. that stuff really did give me goosebumps. Big grin on my face, wow.

This feature is great. I might end up playing it myself, just from hearing there's backstory and other items/bits that the crew have already missed. I especially want to know how Max ended up besties with Victoria and in the Vortex Club in the alternate timeline, because that is kind of way out there. Someone in the chat said it's explained in all those journal entries which we're not going to see in the stream....

@ryvvn: It'll be really sad if LiS doesn't get brought up or if they just pass over it because nobody got around to finishing it, this game really deserves to be a part of the conversation even if they don't put it in the top 10.

Was lukewarm about this game during the first two episodes, but that ending made me buy it so I can see how it plays out.
