Playdate: Tender Loving Care (04/07/2017)

I do love when GB does FMV games, bad or good.

Is this buffering all the time for anyone else? I have to refresh sometimes because the player just loses connection...

This does have a 7th Guest sort of vibe.

I find the beastcast getting flustered over a naked woman absolutely adorable.

Yeah, I'd considered a version issue myself; that's sure a possibility! The DVD was one of the first versions out, though; I don't believe it and the PC version were launched that far apart, and as described, it'd be tough for such a glitch to trigger for a lot of the stuff given the way some of its flags seem to work. I wish I knew from where Wikipedia is getting its info; I Googled around for details, but I didn't find anything.

I *did*, however, find a few oddities about the game in the process, including a number of positive reviews from old turn-of-the-millennium websites that really did regard it as a mature work of art. The '90s were a hell of a time. I also found an article on The Dissolve on the game, though, with developer comments.

There's also a big section on the making of the game in a Geoff Keighley history of Trilobyte; it goes on for several pages. (It says that John Hurt got $100,000 for his role, BTW, plus a $20,000 flight from Kenya.)

Finally: The guy at Trilobyte responsible for the game made a spiritual successor interactive movie entitled Point of View. I have no idea how much it's like Tender Loving Care, but - well, if we find ourselves needing more at the end here...

Man, that diary entry gave me heavy Silent Hill 2 flashbacks. What a good game that was. And certainly a lot less heavy-handed than this, even with Pyramid Head grinding on those nurses.

Is the family being called the Overton's a deliberate reference to the Overton window? This so far seems to be testing what you deem to be acceptable, which isn't exactly the same thing but kinda is? Haven't finished watching yet though.

You know in Dan's defense, spiders do have detachable penises, so he wasn't too far off with his eunuch comment. So if Spider-man was accurate, he would be a eunuch. Also, him confusing Florence Nightingale with Henderson, is priceless.

It only now occurs to me, upon my 3rd watching of this: does that blockhead think the nurse is "familiar" because he's got that phone sex line on speed dial??? Or is that whole part supposed to be 'unreal' and 'meta'?

The writer/director sure did go out of their way to make everyone in this game as unlikeable as possible.
