Playdate: Tender Loving Care (04/28/2017)

After seeing someone tweet the other day of GB stuff being shown in the CBSi lobby, I wonder if they have access to premium content because it would be hilarious if they started showing the NSFW stuff in the middle of a business lobby after a vid of Big bang theory and Cnet reviews.

I didn't think I could be let down by the ending of Tender Loving Care, but like, no explanation at all about what Kathryn's deal was, huh?

I'm guessing there were lot's more hints and insights in both Kathryn's and Michael's diaries. My interpretation is that she took her job very seriously and liked having difficult cases and came up with unconventional methods to help her clients. I was totally on Kathryn's side up until the dog-killing part wtf. I guess it was to ease Allison into reliving death experiences? Did I hear somewhere the original Punky also died cause it got into rat poison? I feel like Kathryn was trying to ramp up to having Michael/Alison relive Jody's death.

This was a great playdate, thanks for introducing us to all this confusion. Tender loving care will forever be in my heart, but all the wrong corners of it.

The real victim was the player all along.

Maybe this paints me as an awful person, but if I had a child and they were hurt or killed in an accident and then some person said "Hey, it was your fault you subconsciously wanted to kill them." I would have ended them right there. The blatant sex baiting also continues my favourite stereotype, men see something and from that point we aren't stopping.

Also, if it was my house and I wanted someone removed from it. I have two hands, usually when you start throwing shit out the door the person leaves. The police are always an option especially when the "nurse" doesn't have any way to keep themselves from being ejected.

Yeah!!! I totally noticed that too. Remember the scratch'n'sniff cards in the back of that thing? I wish I had held onto that. :p

Alex, in the first episode, calls the plot as "subtle as a hammer to the head." CALLED IT!

I DO remember those! They were a major "selling point." Having it written as an actual, in-universe travelogue was a brilliant little stroke. I actually bought a copy off of eBay in college to "properly" play the game. It was such a fun, inventive little part of the experience for me as a kid.

How does the game even determine which endings you get? It's really from those quizzes they were doing?

All of the other endings start with a fight between Michael and Allison, but the last ending is Michael and Jodi naked in bed, so... was that Allison's game all along?

Weird...but not very satisfying in any way unless you want weird. I'm glad "The Beast" went through with the whole thing, but they game doesn't nail the ending...or the middle...or the beginning.

The ending of the GB video is as odd as the game itself.

If anyone can clear it up for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, my internet choked a couple minutes before the apparent ending; did anything else happen live after the posted video cuts out?

(Re: dog-killing: in the book, Kathryn kills the dog so that "Jody" will have a setback and Allison will become more reliant on her, thereby preventing Michael from tossing her out. In the game, there's a recording where Kathryn notes, ominously, that she finds the dog's barking annoying.)

I really like GB playing FMV games, one of my favorite pieces of content on the site is the play through of Contradiction: Spot the Liar.

WOW, EVERYONE in this game is a piece of shit. Rarely do you see a group of extremely hateable people. The wife's a selfish ass, the husband is the world's biggest jerk and the nurse is a terrible psychologist and just a slut.

Though, Dan really brought his A material to this one. Best opening ever and best dan ever.

Edit: Jeff is the best boss ever. This game is so terrible, though it is in that realm of so bad its good.

Does the last ending have anything to do with the Nurse laying in the bed saying Daddy????

You know, if it had ended the way they were guessing towards the end - that Allison had actually died along with Jody in the car crash, and Kathryn was actually there to help Michael with HIS delusions, it all would have made SO MUCH MORE SENSE.

This was amazing from start to finish. Laughed my ass off.

This is why I'm a Premium member. Someone suggest them another awful/entertaining game to play!

Alex, Dan, Vinny. Thank you for finishing this game off despite the fact that it was terrible and cringe inducing at every turn, but I'll be damned if I couldn't help but wanting to see the game through to the end. It went places. Weird places. Un-earned places. The further the game went downhill, the better the laughs. This was great. I want to consume more media with the GBEast crew providing a commentary track.

Thanks for the playdate. Tender Loving Care was amazing with y'all to roast it.

Well this game certainly peaked at this episode. Can't believe those mounds were all laid bare for John Hurt to see. Alison came nicely into her own during this episode as well. Pizza.

I don't understand what my eyes just witnessed...

So no payoff at all for the "congrats on adopting another child, I saw your wife with a girl in a wheelchair" thing? Why did Kathryn think it would be a good idea to lie naked in the dead daughter's bed? Who was the angry glaring guy? None of this made any sense, beginning to end.

@seminormal: Yep because then all the sexual baiting from Kathryn would've made sense, as a way to force him off fixating on his dead wife.

He chastised Kathryn for playing up the Jodi-facade, so it would've been smart if Kathryn was actually playing up BOTH the Jodi facade and the Allison facade, so she honestly couldn't say anything back to him-- because she wanted him to understand for himself that having a facade is wrong.... i.e. his own.

What.

I am genuinely stunned by that last ending.

All I wanted was a pizza, and she wouldn't give it to me.

Their conversation about celebrities in FMV games reminded me of this PC Goosebumps FMV adventure starring Jeff Goldblum as Not-Dracula. Thats a game with a whole lot of greenscreen.
