In a year with 2 major consoles announced and launched, after years of people getting pumped for new consoles none of those events are even top 3 ? You guys are crazy... How much time there was spent talking about/discussing either of them makes the DRM reversal just a drop in the ocean. The new consoles have been the topic of discussion pretty much the entire year.

A few years from now when you look back at 2013 are you really gonna think "that's the year MS reversed their DRM policy" or are you gonna think "that's the year PS4 and Xbox One launched" ?

I totally disagree on Bioshock vs Stanley. I don't even think I saw that clicking thing, whatever it was, and I thought I had gotten all of Stanley. Really, if you're going to knock points off Bioshock because Vinny couldn't stay focused on Songbird (which, if you do stay focused, it all comes into focus in a brilliant fashion) you should knock points off Stanley for being preemptively missable.

Good stuff, though I'd say the "Eye of the Tiger" song level was the best of the song levels of Rayman.

I didn't "get" Brothers. I coudn't bring myself to finish it. I was bored to ALT+F4 within 30 minutes.

I do suppose it could be the fault of the myriad of games I've bought on Steam alongside the sale.

Guys. The giraffes in The Last of Us. THE GIRAFFES. How does that not even get a mention for moment of the year?

I just can't get on board with the Brothers moment. I had the same 30 seconds of "what am I supposed to do?", but figuring out that I was supposed to press a button wasn't some game-affirming revelation. It doesn't really make sense mechanically either.

I'm with Jeff that the controls were annoying throughout the game, and while it was a polished game with some beautiful presentation, I don't think Brothers is a particularly great game. I get what it wanted me to feel, but like Gone Home it was so on-the-nose and obvious that it just didn't work on me.

I've only played the Stanley Parable demo so far, but based on that, this achievement moment sounds pretty rote. Making fun of how dumb achievements can be seems like the easiest video game joke one could make.

Also, yeah, even some of my more internet-savvy gamer friends still thought you had to have the Kinect on at all times and that you couldn't sell games until I told them otherwise recently.

@mb: Is the prime rib a thing for Christmas? We did that this year. And I thought it was just a random thing. Maybe its a long traditional thing? I loved it though. We decided to do it every year going forward also.

I had never heard "God Only Knows" before, so it wasn't some sort of amazing moment to me. Call it cultural differences, but I grew up listening to Motown.

Well almost anything is "more traditional" than turkey, especially for Europeans since Turkeys were only found in North America until after 1500. Historically, Christmas dinner was also a post-Advent feast. My family has always done turkey for Thanksgiving and Prime Rib for Christmas. I think we mainly started it because having turkey twice that close together was a little much. Plus, Prime Rib is awesome.

BF4 plays extremely well for me on PC. Hardly any of the bugs they mentioned, and I suppose many PC players are in my boat as well. Just another instance of coffee table talk by GB of a game they don't actively follow -- referencing one instance a month ago and using reddit trolls, Kotaku comment idiots, etc. to back up their claims. Just listening to Brad chiming in the past few weeks of every podcast saying yeah man "IT'S BUSTED. IT'S RIDICULOUS." (having not touched it since the game came out on Extra Life with a misconfigured n00b streaming setup which was prone to crashing regardless of the game) is just pretty par for the course of what to expect from these guys a lot of the time.

That's what I was thinking the entire time. That is one of my favourite scenes in any game I've ever played, it was so powerful.

After having not played that game… heard it talked the hell up on these podcasts, and finally finding out what the reveal is, all I can say for sure is that, historically, this has been the kind of thing that in other games makes me throw my hands in the air and yell "how the hell was I supposed to know that!?"

If anything, that scene would have ground the game to a screeching half for me, and finding out the solution would have pissed me off way too much for me to care about whatever message the mechanics are trying to communicate.
