I think that giant Magikoopa can clear the blocks around the goal.

After the level has been up for 9 hours, it has a 2% completion rate. There are around just over 300 clears and over 15000 plays.

I went through the Miiverse posts after beating the level and found that 40% to 50% of the people who beat the level and comment did so by using Kamek to break the blocks around the goal and skipping the 2nd half of the level.

Another person creatively beat it by using the clown car to fly back to the beginning, going in the warp pipe that takes you to the end of the 2nd half, and then going in the warp pipe to the goal,..

EMERGENT gameplay!

I'm only 2 days into the creation tools, but here's a little something I cooked up: 8832-0000-0067-AA1B. Less insidious than this nonsense but it's impossible not to be a jerk.

It's really cool how all these completely random elements have seemingly come together to make a deceptively well designed level.

That was fun to watch. When Bowser triggered the P switch and fell, I laughed pretty damn hard. I was disappointed that no one noticed or commented on the fact that someone named "DumbRyckrt" played one of Dan's levels around the 33:40 mark.

The saws you made to prevent people from flying the lakitu clouds in the sub-level were actually useless. (For their intended purpose, anyways. They're still a jumping hazard.) As you found out, the lakitus follow you throughout the level. Therefore, you could just let the lakitu fly past the saws then kill it and take the cloud. But by reading these comments, there have been a few creative solutions to the level, so this is not that out there.

Just watched the archive and you are right that it was a glorious stream. I can only imagine Dan's amusement if he ever watches it.

@thiago123 Currently it's at a clear rate of under 2%, which seems about right.

He applies such careful logic to it.

This just shows you how well designed the building blocks of Mario games are. They are made to bounce off each other in such a delightful way, even a bunch of random ideas can coalesce into a pretty neat level.

What a beautiful, terrible level. The emergent Bowser situation is such a perfect GB stroke of luck.

Also, they should totally do a NSMB level. I bet Dan could do some truly evil things with walljumps.

I totally skipped the sub-level. Kamek shot one of the blocks separating the goal from the main area and it turned into a coin. I snuck in as small Mario and finished it.

Here's another twitch streamer that played the level. It's interesting to see how he does things differently than Patrick.

http://www.twitch.tv/andy/v/17567744?t=2h17m45s

His two interesting strats were bringing a trampoline with him to go into the star trap and then get back out with star power. He also got through the p-bridge by jumping on the first p-switch and using the bounce back to go to the wooden platform. Most of the p-switches will fall, letting you safely move onto the bridge.

This was great. And the level ended up so much better than I thought it would. The accidental Bowser following you cost Patrick a lot of tries on this level.

Oh man, this was all super good.

@danryckert I found the best way yet to beat this. Have Magikoopa teleport into the goal area, have him shoot a block to have it disappear, then accidentally fall through as small Mario while the clown copters bear down on you as you prepare for death.

I feel like you made two great silly-yet-interesting levels and then made them impossible by forcing the player to pull off both halves in a single go of it.

I'm thinking about what Jeff says about having too much going on in a level and wondering if another way to look at it is that people keep making levels that are just too long.

It isn't a crime to make two things, guys.

Edit: Though I must admit that the pipes-sending-you-back-to-the-beginning gag only works as well as it does because it's after such a long level.

Edit 2.0: Look at how most of the solutions people are finding involve just doing something to skip the second half of the level entirely, which is a shame because then they don't get to see the best parts of the level. (POLICE STATE, the impossible yoshi egg, goomba jail, etc)

With Dan's luck, Nintendo will probably offer him a lead level designer position.

It really is fascinating to watch all the outside the box tactics people come up with for this dumb (in the best possible way) level.

This is great, not only is really interesting to watch and has lots of interactivity with the audience, they all look very amused by all of it, specially Jeff (who did a very good job picking up suggestions from the chat).

edit: I just saw Patrick playing and deconstructing the level which made me amazed by how this level with random inputs ended up such a genius thing.

I assume you're talking about lyrical content? I don't really know or care about The Clash's lyrical matter, so I could be wrong, but as a person who listens to what sounds good to me, and what sticks in my head, and doesn't invest interest or emotions into a band's lyrical matter, I as a conservative enjoy Rage Against the Machine immensely, without being worried changing about myself.

Having something chasing you (bowser, the lakitus) is an effective way to encourage the player to look for efficient ways to solve an obstacle in an outside the box way, yet at the same time it discourages the player to explore the environment and find potentially subtle details or secrets.

If you watch Patrick's stream, he would have found the feather almost instantly if he had taken the time to kill those dry bones on that platform from underneath, but he never did that because he felt he needed to get away from Bowser as fast at possible.

But seriously, these are actually really good levels. That final thwomp in that chain needs to be moved up to be even with the rest (it's impossible to spin jump there without getting hit as tall mario as it's currently placed) and I would remove the second lakitu and only have the one throwing chain chomps.

Other than those two changes and them needing to be broken apart, this is actually a lot of fun to play if you are looking for a challenge.
