The comments about "please don't talk about destiny" anymore are pretty silly, the dudes will talk about what they want to talk about whether it's games they've been playing or even things not related to vidya games at all.

That director question is interesting. I've always wanted to see Guillermo del Toro work on a Silent Hill game. Maybe Junji Ito could help him out?

The music in that third ad sounds quite a bit like I Was a Teenage Hand Model by QOTSA sped up, suspiciously so.

The Destiny talk has gone full circle back to being interesting again because of all the negatives we've gotten, but the discussion of its supposed mystery just feels like it should be a given in a game of that size and scope. Like it's not that impressive that there are a few things that shake it up a bit, because really given the size of the payment in and the size of the game itself, is it really praiseworthy that there are a couple secrets?

Thinking about Destiny and it's many failings just makes me want to play Borderlands again and think about what a new one would be like.

Don't bother with the Gamechangers BBC film. It was really really bad. Sometimes laughably bad. It takes Jack Thompson's side, makes Sam Houser look like a grumbling child. The radio talk show guy in the first 2 minutes of the film sets the tone of how low those filmmakers view video games.

Actually, do go watch it. I want to hear the GB crew tear that thing apart.

On the history of unions in Hollywood: they really became a thing in the early 1930s, and the industry was extremely conducive to unionization on two fronts. One, there is a huge manual labor component to film production, so the workers there (who would unionize under IATSE) came from fields where labor organization was well-entrenched and mobilization was not that difficult. Two, movie stars were, as Jeff mentions, irreplaceable selling points in films, so they could band together under SAG (the same union dealing with the games publishers now) and have their demands taken seriously. All the other unions sprang forth afterwards from those two spearheads. Also, this was happening in a time when the Great Depression was entering its darkest days and the threat of communist revolution in America was not entirely some fantasy or joke.

The cultural and social conditions of the games industry (mostly white-collar, tech-oriented, relatively anonymous, and non-location-specific) are basically Hard Mode for labor organization, so it's unlikely we'll see any kind of unionization in the near future, or probably even within our lifetimes.

Elias Toufexis is the voice actor for Adam Jensen, and strangely enough that is his real voice. He gruffs it up a bit for the character but not much.

He was a guest star on some Sci-Fi show and when I heard that voice I knew it was him instantly. He looked nothing like how I expected him to look.

Huh, a little surprised to hear Jeff say the mechs in Titanfall felt too heavy and tank-like, because one of my bigger issues with that game was that I didn't think they felt or looked different enough from being on foot.

About the pre-written obituaries there's some interesting stories around it. For example Alfred Nobel had one written when his brother died, condemning him for making his fortune from dynamite. Apparently he wanted a better legacy so that's why he established the Nobel Prizes.

Back in vanilla WoW when it took people 30 minutes or more just to get to the dungeon/raid entrance which could last hours; taking a shower while waiting for other players made sense sometimes.

Edit: This talk about Destiny from Brad is hilarious "trying to get 6 people together for hours is hard only to realize you aren't geared/skilled enough to make it work" try getting 40 people whom all are geared/skilled at that level then complain.

Holy cow. This Destiny talk is fucking ridiculous. It wouldn't be so bad if they said anything new, but they don't. They're constantly repeating the same points over and over and have been doing so since the game came out last year. "The loot kinda sucks", "the game needed more content at launch", "the leveling is dumb", "most of the raids suck", "you repeat a lot of the same missions", "the game needs new areas", "the systems are really complicated", "I really don't know why I still play" etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. Please spin Destiny talk into it's own podcast, give me a timestamp so I don't have to scrub through the podcast to figure out were the talk ends, or STOP TALKING ABOUT DESTINY. Please.

Okay for some reason I would really love to see someone make a T-shirt with Jeff Gertsmann deressed like Kratos standing on a mountain of corpses that look like the characters from Destiny. One of the guardians looks very close to Brad.. And Jeff would be yelling high atop that mountain with his firey blades of fury raised up high: "I AM KRATOS AND I AM MAAAAAAAAADD!!"

PS: There is no logic behind it. I just want to see it and I suck at drawing..

Can I get a timestamp for when the Destiny discussion ends? I am so done hearing about Destiny. I get that it's a big thing, but so is The Sims and I would be just as bored if they talked about every Sims expansion.

[EDIT] Alright, nevermind. I managed to bare through it. 1:08:30 is when Destiny talk ceased and I nearly fell asleep.

I'm with you, jesus christ, now that the game has some more standard mechanics it seems like a decent $18 game, it doesn't deserve this much conversation.

@fisk0: yeah they were still pretty neat but i think it wouldve been badass for a timberwolf from mw2 or something to come screaming down and you lay waste to everyone/thing. i agree the mechs should feel more important, but mecha style would be even closer to being a regular dude, unless they shoot swarms of missles ala zone of the enders. Still looking forward to titanfall 2, whatever that may be.

Well, as someone working in the games industry, I'd be pretty behind a union.... but then the situation as it has been for a long time is that a whisper of the word union inside the building will get you fired pretty much on the spot. Labour surplus hooray!

To be honest, that's really just what Jeff says, while Brad kinda half-heartedly agrees. Brad gets Destiny. Jeff doesn't. I'm honestly surprised that Jeff still plays, as it seems pretty obvious he doesn't enjoy the game. 90% of the year 1 issues have been resolved in the Taken King, but Jeff still complains about 100% of the year 1 issues as if they still exist. Sure, year 2 isn't perfect, but the "issues" that remain from year 1 are tiny, and simply don't impact the game in the way that Jeff would want you to believe. If Brad was able to speak freely about Destiny without Jeff being there, I feel like he would speak quite differently. It's a damn good game now.

EDIT: Having actually listened to the Destiny section, I am actually really surprised at how positive everyone was (particularly Jeff). This Destiny segment was actually quite a bit different than most of them. Sure Jeff mentions some of his usual complaints (some of which are getting petty considering how good the game is now), but ultimately I found myself actually agreeing with him far more than usual. The part of them bitching about having to get six whole people together for a raid was hilarious though. MMORPGs have required dozens of people to work together for hours for years.

I guarantee Brad is going to try to argue that The Taken King and whatever other expansions have come out for Destiny this year make it a "whole new game" worth considering as GOTY 2015. I will literally eat my hat if this doesn't happen.

@mrsmiley: Especially ones like WoW. Doesn't that have like 40-man raids? That said, aside from hardcore progression groups, most raid groups in MMOs (or at least in FFXIV) will just raid for a few hours a day when they're learning, because raid fatigue is a very real thing, and sometimes you REALLY need a break, because you start straight-up forgetting mechanics or how to deal with them, and just not executing to the best of your ability. It's especially rough immediately after content drops because if you're hardcore pushing content, then you have to do stuff like have your healers doing DPS a large amount of the time to hit a DPS check, or tanks having to run in their DPS stance instead of tank stance and just pop cooldowns a lot more to keep alive, and everyone, including DPS, has to be super on point. One fucked up rotation early in the fight can screw you over 8-10 minutes later when the DPS check actually kills you (I had to DPS a lot more than any of the dungeons required in order to hit the DPS checks in Bismark and Ravana EX. Alexander Normal was super easy comparatively).

I watched the BBC movie they mentioned (The Gamechangers) and it's more of a movie about Jack Thompson in the context of the Devin Moore/Hot Coffee controversies. The movie tries to play devil's advocate and try to convince us that maybe Thompson isn't this crazy, fanatical dude like the video game industry would want us to believe. If you're at least mildly familiar with why San Andreas got reclassified as AO in the US, you won't learn anything new about Rockstar from it. It's a bad movie, but it has David Ratcliffe in it.
