Giant Bombcast 10/27/2015

Between fall video games shipping and Sony holding press conferences, we almost missed this week's podcast! Luckily we rode our bears here from Paris to touch on all these topics, plus the quirks of Canadian money, the horrors of Bayou Billy, educational Second Life, and the fourth wave of ska.

The Giant Bombcast is the world's most beloved video game podcast, and now it's available in video form.

Did you Witcher fans ever consider it's your own fault your feathers are being ruffled? Maybe if you didn't like the game so much you wouldn't feel irked by anything, you know. All I'm saying is, it's your own fault and you should take some responsibility.

@dr_mantas: mine was a legitimate question, yours is one intended to deflect.

@sethmode: It's not weird that I want to see a game I loved, that is probably one of the best games I've played in a while, recognized by the only gaming website I care about.

They have a capacity to rave about a single game week after week, some of which I couldn't care less about (like Mario Maker). They shouldn't act baffled when their audience heaps praise on another game.

And they seemed to like Witcher at first, but I wanted to point out that they soured on the game for many reasons, many of which aren't the fault of the game. It's a PC RPG, and hugely story oriented. So yeah, playing the previous games helps, and sticking with it without taking huge breaks helps.

But playing through it can be a wonderful experience, and I'm partly upset that they likely won't experience it, and it won't figure into their GOTY deliberations, which I've followed every year for the past 7.

"$400 will buy less and less as time goes on" Absolutely absurd. The price of compute is falling like a rock. When the next console cycle comes around you will be blown away with how much power you can get from $400.

Also, i get the impression from you guys that you think these consoles had high development costs. They didnt. AMD did the heavy lifting. Previously, Sony and Microsoft designed their own silicon. That wasnt the case this generation and the entire point of sourcing from AMD.

@dr_mantas: It will be talked about in the GOTY deliberations because it's a good game. They stated that multiple times throughout the year. It's a good RPG, just not one that continued to hold it's grip on them. If you're already invested in the Witcher lore, you would get more out of it and be compelled throughout. If you're not invested in that world, after the initial interest in the story and it's mechanics, the game might become a drag if that story doesn't really captivates you. That doesn't mean it's bad, it means it's not for everyone.

I think Radiohead is one of the best bands out there, but i realize that the majority of the people would disagree with me. On the same note Jeff likes a good Call of Duty game, while that's extremely unappealing to me. That doesn't mean that Call of Duty is a garbage game and that Jeff is wasting his time , it means that Jeff has different gaming tastes as me. I can take that it in account when i hear Jeff talk about games in general.

At this point they all played probably at least 20 hours of that game. Jeff is even going back to it. Unless the game is extremely backloaded and the first 25% of the game is garbage, it's a reasonable barometer for how good that game is. If you disagree with that, the game probably has pacing issues.

Looking at the Witcher 3 content on the site, They showcased and discussed both the merits of the game and the annoyances of the game. Watching Vinny go through that Bloody Baron part had me glued to my chair. In that regard, i think that they've painted a good picture of the game. It sparked me to boot up The Witcher 2 again to get prepared for the new game.

Man, for a good while there I got really freaked out, because I thought I was having the longest, most detailed deja vu ever, when Rorie/Dan/Brad had the exact same conversation about MGS V/The Witcher 3 they'd had just last week, once again.

Not going to comment on what I think about it, since I already did in detail last week, just going to say that it really weirded me out.

I still don't see Microsoft ever simply allowing any Xbox One game to be playable on a Windows 10 PC. Microsoft have a long track record of completely ignoring the PC in favour of selling Xboxes and pushing console exclusives. I'd love it to happen, but I just don't see it realistically happening.

What is this overbearing parenting stuff with Halloween candy? I first went trick or treating when I was 2. When me and my brother got home we separated it, my mom would look through it, toss out any opened stuff, and then we'd get to take the whole bag and go to our room with it. Freedom! We burn through it in 3 or 4 days and it's done. Not a big deal, don't over analyse it.

Maybe its just me, but I do know you guys are doing some new sound stuff now? But maybe my laptop speaker shit the bed just at the same time and its coincidence? But i don't notice it on other websites. The giantbomb volume of speaking makes my speakers sound like shit (like bass maxes out or something???). Is your speech setting in the red somehow? (vibrates my speakers unless they are really low.)
