@indigozeal: Actually, after going back and reading I can't find any of the comments you're referring to. All I can see is you and another user attempting to disparage another person for posting that they're glad the show still exists.

Regardless, I'm not entirely sure about how appropriate it is to judge a piece of entertainment or art based on some of it's fan's interpretations. That just seems kind of silly since interpretations can vary wildly from person to person. Also, I don't think anyone got worked up over you not caring about the show, it was more about your aloof response of denigrating anyone that enjoys something you don't. Having said all that, it really seems like you shouldn't be the one lecturing people about maturity or awareness.

The take away from this, is that Will Smith says the take away from this entirely too much.

@indigozeal: Actually, after going back and reading I can't find any of the comments you're referring to.

The hill on which you guys are choosing to die is: "this show just thinks everything is stupid, and that's why I like it and I'm upset you're saying you don't." If you can't find those comments in this very thread, then you're being willfully blind. I'm not going to list all the specific instances of this mindset in the franchise; it's not my job to give you recaps of your own show. But that's how you guys - the fans of this property - are choosing to portray and defend the show, so I don't see this as a legitimate point of contention.

I will explicitly cite one such comment, though:

@SnowyPliskin:

We have doctors, councillors, WHO, charities etc etc etc etc ad infinitum trying to rid the world of whats bad. We cant have one cartoon that has a laugh at it all?

But these two mindsets are at odds, though, and someone who believes that trying to fix problems in the former vein might not really take to the latter's "hey, you're stupid for caring."

I feel the South Park defenders here are misconstruing what's being said. Those of us who find its mindset tiresome aren't saying "BAN THIS SICK FILTH." We're saying, "We've found through life experience that the overall message of this cartoon is dumb and thus choose not to watch it." And the existence of this opinion has made you guys angry. I don't think I'm the easily-offended party here.

The other big objection that's being brought up is to referring to South Park's mindset as "juvenile." Well...look, sorry, but it is. The idea that everything is stupid and if you don't want to do something, then no one should do it, *is* juvenile. Being an adult means living up to responsibility and solving problems (which vary by necessity and choice according to the individual) to make the world work. Being juvenile (in terms of mindset, not necessarily age) means you know that someone else is going to clean up, so what do you care?

I see the replies to my posts are starting to go in circles (likely willfully), so this is probably where I'm going leave my participation in this discussion.

I still use message boards and have a dedicated portable music player. It feels kind of weird that these identify me as being old.

This whole thing would be absolutely hilarious if that guy not happened to be the editor in chief of a gaming media outlet

Nice work, Ben! I think it is badass how he's stepping up to the plate while Jason is out. It does give some perspective on how great a job Jason, Vinny, and Abby do though. No disrespect to Ben, just a complement to the other three.

@goldrock: When he and his administration stop being active threats to people in and of Giant Bomb and their friends and families, I bet you'll stop hearing about him.

Sorry that it taxes you so that people dare allude to their lives outside of video games.

@afashionablehat: I forgot he was "literally Hitler" and that's totally why I come to this site. To hear more politics. Because I don't get enough in sports right now either.

Btw, never once heard any criticism of the previous administration, so don't bring up the "They have lives outside of video games" bullshit.

@goldrock: you didn't hear about the previous administration* because the previous administration didn't spend spend every single waking minute saying, "Pay attention to me! It's all about me! Me me me!" like Agent Fucking Smith from the Matrix movies.

*Also, the GB crew ALWAYS injected some political talk into their features - examples I can specifically mention off the top of my head is them making fun of the US government shutdown while playing Windjammers, talking about the insane story of Leland Yee (the San Francisco politician who was buying and selling heavy-duty weapons for a Chinatown Triad a couple years ago) and various times they referenced the "Thanks, Obama" meme.

It's not like they're talking hours about Trump or something. It's a bombcast like any other.

@goldrock: yes. I'm not american. Why would i care about 5 seconds in a 3 hour podcast if i have no real dog in the race? And if Obama had to be taken jabs at on a weekly basis by the bombcast, we would be talking about a hypothetical situation starring different people.

My stance on racism, Nazis and bigotry hasn't really changed in the last 8 years so if it all this happened under obama in this hypothetical situation I would probably be okay with them saying fuck Nazis every now and then.

The idea that PUBG could ever be considered GOTY over amazing games like Nier, Horizon, Persona, Zelda, Yakuza, Cuphead, and soon Mario makes me shake my head. I don't care how many people are playing it, that shit is the same as any other buggy battle royale game.

yeah, we get a top class Mario, Zelda, and Metroid game in the same year and hey...that Animal Crossing game doesn't look half bad either. PUBG is just so...average. Damn this year has been good.

@indigozeal: I am not one of those people, what gets me worked up is when people think their age is relevant except when buying a beer, or driving a car. When you start saying bullshit like "once you get older" or anything of the like, you patronizing people, and people should have the ability to have a conversation on a message board without being dicks.

I've never much cared for South Park -- not offended by it, I'm happy it exists, it just wasn't my speed and didn't make me laugh -- but I find it remarkable that it's suddenly so fashionable for people to come down on it. Things haven't changed THAT much since 2014.

I see south park is as effective as ever seeing people go back and forth about its content. Glad to see it doing well.

I really hope Sony will pickup the backwards compatibility thing soon.

I would like to know or have an example of what IS supposed to be a good response to a random (ex)employee making an accusation on social media. Nothing is ever a good response no matter how much or little is said in a statement when companies often cannot say much without getting their face sued off based on their public statements.

Naughty Dog didn't say enough, even though what they said could be very true (aka nothing ever made it's way to HR, so it's he said he said. But EA's statement about closing Visceral with some actual content in the message is TMI? So pray tell, what are these statements supposed to look like?

@indigozeal: Being able to laugh at something and wanting to make it better is not mutually exclusive.

From the show's perspective, it is, though; the crux of a lot of its humor is "caring or trying to make something better is stupid," which is the sticking point for many of us.

I don't know what show you're watching but that's not South Park at all. All of your comments about the show's perspective aren't actually it's perspective but rather just the perspective you have on the show.

Also, @goldrock, I completely agree with you.

I'm glad South Park still makes politically incorrect content. I'm sick of everything having to tiptoe around jokes because someone might get offended. They make fun of everyone.

The "everyone's dumb but me lol" viewpoint loses its appeal once you leave middle school.

Smug condescension isn't appealing either, btw.

Got back from an absence to a bunch of inbox messages demanding I take back what I said here. Nope: I stand by it completely. I think this demonstrates, though, that folks who are proud at laughing at everything are more than willing to treat themselves as sacred cows - which only affirms what I said about the childishness of this perspective. You guys earn the contempt you receive.
