I don't understand Jeff's comments on how he would change Kane & Lynch to better follow up on the legacy of Freedom Fighters. Maybe I misunderstood Jeff's position, but I just don't think they're very similar games at all? K&L isn't the "follow up to Freedom Fighters" at all, it's that studio making a completely different game. Was the prerelease messaging of K&L trying to position it as a follow up to Freedom Fighters, because I otherwise have no idea where Jeff is getting this idea.

Freedom Fighters was technically a third person shooter, but so much of it is directing squadmates around a big tactical map that has more in common with a Jagged Alliance/XCOM map design than with shooter map design.

Kane & Lynch seems like they set out to make a Gears-esque linear cover shooter with an AI/co-op buddy. I just don't see how the gameplay or game design or core concepts are comparable at all.

It's like saying "instead of making Diablo 2 I would make it Warcraft 3."

I don't understand why Ubisoft taking a year off for one game made everyone become convinced that meant they were going to do that going forward in perpetuity.

Battlerite is not the most interesting name. I like to remember Battlerite as a spiritual successor of Bloodline Champions. That game had a competitive scene around 2012. Battlerite is also the game that had the battle royale -style circle from the get go. It's not a moba though. . It's an hero deathmatch arena.

I'm surprised that no one told Brad that Killer Queen is meant to be played on 2 machines by 2 teams. That is like the thing about that. Didn't the bombcast talk about Killer Queen multiple times before?

We used the mercy rule at the University arcade I played at in Waterloo, Canada, but it only happened if one player was significantly stronger than the other. This was back in the early/mid 90s...

Alex is the only person I've heard say outright Detroit sucks. Some real journalist impressions. Not surprised

I also think Detroit sucks. I'm very tired of AI stories, though, so I might be in a minority.

Yoku's Island Express.

I'm hoping for a quicklook but I guess E3 is eating all the time?

Who doesn't have an internet subscription on their phone these days? If you really want to play Fortnite on for a couple of hours (if even) on the battery life that the Switch offers. Just tether your phone? I mean games require very little bandwidth to play online.

What video series was Jeff referring to when he was talking about GiantBomb Infinite and a particular series for which they received a hard "no" from the audience?

Jeff saying that Doritos are "fucking fancy" and being a "higher tier chip" sounded like a Dan take. Almost frightening to hear it from Jeff.

Also, Combos are amazing; don't shittalk Combos.

I find it funny how annoyed Alex seems to get about the androids in 'Detroit: Become Human" passing off as human when they pull off that tab on the side of their forehead, like it's some form of lazy writing. I mean, these are human appearing androids exploring sentience, it's not going to take much for them to pass off as human (especially at first glance). Sure there is some 'plot convenience' in having this happen, but does Alex get equally annoyed when Cylons in 'Battlestar Galactica' or Hosts in 'Westworld' try to pass off as human? I suppose you could argue why Cyberlife (company that created Androids in Detroit) made it so easy for the Androids to cover up that mark, but this isn't the first android story where human "creators" both overestimated their abilities to 'control' robotic life and underestimate how these advanced androids would adapt.

Between this and a comment on the Beastcast where Alex thinks the 'we have a dream' slogan used in the game is trying to be passed off as original by Quantic Dream (rather than a blatantly obvious MLK reference, I mean did the game really need to spell out his name in there to make that clear?), I kind of get the feeling Alex already made up his mind about the game before he played it. And while everyone has their own biases, I guess I just expected more out of Alex, who I feel tends to provide some of the better discussion on gaming for this site.

I also don't mean to imply Detroit is a perfect game that is above criticism. The controls are clunky in that patented Quantic Dream way, and the motion controls don't really add much to that. The one word dialog choice options run into the same 'Fallout 4' problem where your character doesn't always say what you think they're going to say. And in a game about narrative choice and building character relationships, that can be a big problem. So I don't really have a problem with Alex not liking the game. It's just a lot of his criticism feels rather nitpicky and like he's looking for a reason to not like the game. I guess if he ever does write a review for the game, maybe we'll see some more substance to his complaints.

I think the simple issue he, myself and many others have is - why the fuck did they design androids whose only outward indication that they're androids is a tiny LED they can easily remove with no consequences?
