I bounced off of NMS at launch pretty quickly but I'm enjoying it more now after the Next update. I'm in the same boat as Jeff, though, where the parts of the game I'm enjoying aren't part of the Next focus -- base building and whatnot. I'm playing on a standard PS4 and it runs pretty terribly, particularly during storms. I may end up abandoning my current save and loading into Creative Mode instead to do without all the busywork.

I know I heard it when he said it "live", could of even been a last night at E3# thing, but in a nutshell it was basically "you can't hire enough to possibly test for everything"

Yeah, I was tracking this down, and Lang talks about it starting around 33:30.

They had already been talking about Fallout 4 still having typical open world Bethesda bugs, and ask for Lang's input. tl;dr, Lang basically says that because the possibility space is so big for the game, the QA people can't account for the trillions of combinations that could occur, so on a practical/planning level you can't find everything. There will be bugs that you never found in QA or were difficult to replicate because there are so many moving parts and testers never did the very specific sequence of events that causes a bug.

I see what Lang means, but some of Jeff's complaints are valid. Like, there are bugs, but also there are easily fixable scripting things like "have other NPCs shut the hell up and not enter my personal space while I'm actively in conversation with an NPC." There are legitimately hard to fix/find bugs, but NPC and enemy AI scripting in Bethesda game still does some really derpy stuff that seems like it should've been improved since Fallout 3 but hasn't been.

Sure, the base building was added to NMS in the Path Finder update, but they overhauled it a lot with NEXT. Now you can claim any area you want on any planet, and you can own multiple bases. Before you could only build pre-constructed rooms, now you have the freedom to build walls and floors however you want, with hundreds of new base parts compared to earlier versions.

So I bet Jeff wouldn't enjoy the base-building as much if it wasn't for the changes in NEXT.

Another thing I just discovered is this tool called Galactic Atlas. It seems like you can use it to find some awesome discoveries from other players, and also submit your own sometime in the future.

OMG thank you Jeff for mentioning how to get glass, I’ve been stuck on that for days.

And yeah, the game is extremely neat but frustratingly implemented. Just yesterday I joined a friend’s game and his starter system (four planets!) had no outposts and wouldn’t point out the space station so he couldn’t even engage in the economy. Without that he couldn’t even escape the system, so the only solution was for him to join my game to escape his hell world.

Coffee requires absolutely nothing to be delicious. That being said, I like a splash of milk for consistency. S'wrong with you all?

It kinda warms my heart that Will is still so into PUBG, even if I fell off pretty early last year.

Man, I'm really wanting to jump back into No Man's Sky after that lengthy discussion. I'll probably stick with playing solo, I really don't want to have to worry about being invaded by other players; I still want that to be my podcast-listening, chill-out game. I don't want to have to watch my back constantly.

I however feel like the tutorial is 10 times better then it was before. Like the glass example, that shit was even more confusing before NEXT. But still not perfect

Well it mostly comes down to me not liking the game and being tired of hearing about it, and not enjoying the BR genre in general. In addition, I just selfishly wish some the more niche games and genres I enjoyed got even 20% of the attention Fortnite gets.

@mendia: Meh, not everything is for everyone. The amount of people who do or don't like something shouldn't bum you out as long as you're still getting the thing you like.
