Haven't listened to this yet, but Lucy is one of my favorite people working at Gamespot, I'm happy to know they got her as a guest!

@benpack I'm playing a pretty greyscale Arthur Morgan, but you're totally right that they failed to make being a total asshole interesting. I've wasted enough time hunting and whatnot while ignoring the story progression that I started getting curious what a bad guy would get me and...turns out, every 10% increase in Honor results in some new function. New clothing from the vendors, new discounts from the vendors, more happy reactions from NPCs and so on. The "bandit" path, for lack of a better term, gives you better chances with dead eye tonics and more violent loot drops, ie. fire bottles instead of bullets...for the first 10% negative, and that's it.

Nothing at 20%, or 30%, or even 100%. No discounts at Fences, no alternative ways to ditch bounties, no special outfits from the Fence or Trapper, no being unable to sell goods in town and having to work through those two blacklist agents, nothing clever at all. Just that one "reward", right away. It's woefully unbalanced towards being a good guy, which again I'm mostly fine with that since I've been playing in a way that's left my rank dead center in the middle pretty much the entire time and am not reaping any benefits from the system, but it's incredible to me that for all the detailed weirdness they have in certain parts of this game, particularly the systems based things, there is really nothing to being a bad guy other than being a pesky dude 'cause you want to.

No diamonds though.

Man, Lucy James is getting up now that she's made the move to the US. Saw her on the Kinda Funny games podcast and she fit right in with Greg, she's doing the UK proud. Oh and she also happens to be a woman, great stuff.

So I don't have to fucking mash X to run but am allowed to pan the camera freely as I'm sprinting! And yeah - I'm aware of "hold". Anyways, I'm not sure I want to keep playing with these super weighty and long animations and horrible controls in general. I played for an hour today and shut it off. It is clunky and slow and a fucking pain to control this character. It's like you're constantly wading in tar or mud. And for those on team "intentional and part of the game world" or whatever - fuuuck you. You don't spend two minutes trying to turn your character to face the right direction in a store to pick out a pack of cigarettes. Get the hell off of my lawn. I'm going to wait and see if they actually respond to this criticism with a WORKING patch of sorts. I'm not going to play it like this for a hundred hours.

I was expecting Red Dead 1 controls which were tolerable but in this game they're actually fucking worse. Jeff, your criticism is 100% valid and I will never doubt you again. (I will.)

Brad is not wrong, RDR2 is definitely top 10 all time. I'm with him all the way for GOTY.

Lucy was a great guest, and it's ALWAYS great when it's more than just the normal bunch.

I thought this initially but this may be the first year in a while that's a blowout in favor of RDR2. Jeff will likely be the only outlier and it's not like he loved God of War or Spider-Man. Wouldn't be surprised if his GOTY is Call of Duty again.

Jeff not around to lose listeners when he bags on RDR2. Good choice, I guess. Jeff is always quiet on big AAA releases, and I suspect much of that has to do with how he doesn't want to deal with backlash from the fanboys. Even on GOTY discussions, he usually tempers his distaste for certain things.

Graphics - 7x1.5=10.5 (Artstyle brings it up 1)

Sound - 10x1-10 (Come on!!)

Gameplay - 6x3=18 (It's ok but no way can it sustain a 50 hour game)

Value - 9 x1.5=13.5 (it's a lot of game by any measure)

Tilt - 10x3=30 (This is a game we'll remember for years)

Score = 82

This was a very fun episode. Rorie is always fun to listen to.

For those looking to avoid spoilers a couple of cool early missions and sidequests get discussed that are probably better off as a surprise.

I wish they did all the red dead stuff in its own review podcast. I can't listen to this now for a while. :-(

could someone fill me in on what Rorie did "to go viral"?

Is it that rare for the GB crew to roleplay in games? I do it all the time (to the point that is enjoyable). It only ever makes games more fun.

@pirateneal: I don't think he personally went viral in the same vain as Jeff and Drew (I'm not aware of anything like that anyway) but I imagine it has to do with his clip of Jeopardy that was about video games where the contestants completely bomb and you can just hear Rorie giggling in the background.
