It's been a long, strange year. Only fitting E3 make its return in an equally long, strange way.

Shoutout to the GB field correspondent, Posty!

Wooow, haven't watched it yet, but the mere mention of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties has me excited. Haven't seen that since the 3DO video, where we learned about Shaky Jake, the porno Jurassic Park and that asshat in the EA parking lot that wants to race you so bad

I am bit surprised and sad about the reaction to the Intellivision Amico. I think its really cool and I'm excited about it. Much in the same way that I'm excited about the Evercade VS. I've pre ordered mine (from Amazon UK).

Any hey, if you would rather have a Colecovision equivalent, then the Phoenix exists. I will probably never get to check that out though as they probably won't get a wide release outside of the US.

I am astounded how bland and minimal the Halo content was, both single player and multiplayer.

I don't think Halo is sluggish its just different. I'm of the mind that FPS games are generally getting too fast. Call of Duty movement is so fast + the maps being so small means since BLOPS2 the spawning situation has almost consistently been a total nightmare.

I am not invested in the new generation of Xbox but I do PC game. I hope they pull off a great Halo game as the last one I actually enjoyed was Halo: Reach. Maybe they will reverse how much they nerfed melee in the series :D I don't have much positive to say about 343i with Halo...I found the story stuff even more poor than what came before H4, the designs have gotten worse, the new enemies are poor or the same from pre-H4, and the multiplayer has decided to be influenced by COD and other shooters opposed to marking out their own niche.

Damn, Jeff G destroyed the Intellivision. And Jeff B said the Amico looked like a baby monitor. LMAO! Savage. But I agree, there is an audience for it. If they get a bunch of classic developers and start making sequels or remakes to some of those classic games, like many of the games that came out on Turbografx-16, Genesis, and SNES that have been long forgotten, like a new Bonk game for example... I'd be interested... but not at a $300 entry fee.

Overall, I liked E3 this year, solely because it showed there was a good line up of games coming out this year, and 2021 won't be the empty year many people were predicting. The surprise winner for me was Nintendo with Metroid Dread. Good for them releasing a serious 2D entry in the series this year to tide people over until Metroid Prime 4, hopefully next year.

I'll never get enough of dunking on the Amico. That stuff is always the highlight of Pat the NES Punk's podcast. (Pat has a bit of a feud going with Tommy.)

Oh, and as always: Fuck Doug TenNapel.

Thing about Ollie Ollie World that looks disappointing is the lack of interactable stuff. In the first two there were many layers of stuff you can grind or ride on. With this one, almost the entire time all we see is the ground, a single rail at ground level, and billboards. And the only interesting thing is that sometimes there's another path you can take... that's similar to that. The tracks look barebones and uninteresting.

The Intellivision Amico seems like something that came out 20 years too late.

I was someone who's been curious about Eve since the EverQuest days, and a friend of mine finally convinced me to try it out earlier this year and join his mercenary corp fighting in the big ongoing war; and my biggest surprise with that game is actually just how approachable it really is. It can be completely inscrutable to look at out of context, but the new player onboarding is actually really good and effective. And also how it doesn't suffer from one of the biggest problems I have with longer running MMOs (especially rotten in WoW), which is having really glaring lines of division between expansions. It's completely impossible for me to discern the difference between things in Eve that have been in that game since day one, and things introduced in the latest expansion. Furthermore, because of the way the skill and ship systems work, unlike modern MMOs where you have to catch up to max level to play with your friends and participate in any meaningful multiplayer activity; my friend was able to train me into a combat ship and start immediately participating (meaningfully) in military fleets in the current ongoing war within my first week. Most of the long time investment in that game isn't "sitting at your computer for 30 hours straight" as Jeff describes. It's training a skill for 7 days of non-play time, then logging in to use it for 1 to 4 hours per fleet while training new skills to try new things in your downtime. (Or at least that has been the playstyle I've chosen to adopt, and it's been perfectly fun and playable that way.)

All that being said; that game can totally also be an absolute time vampire of a spreadsheet simulator if you let it, so they're not wrong there. But that Eve segment was super duper corny and fun and hopefully inspires some curious folks to peek in on it for a little bit to see what it really is apart from how it often gets described. o7

Halo 5 had some incredible multiplayer, one of my favorites in the series with the fastest, smoothest gameplay. Warzone was super fun and the whole card thing was overblown. After an hour I was never short on cards, and after a few months they started showering you with them for doing any little thing. I absolutely loved it.

Really looking forward to Infinite.

I've been waiting for Jeff's take on Amico for awhile and it was worth the wait. I think everyone else was kinda mean about it, but I share Jeff's well-wishes. Good ideas, we'll see about the execution. The 1:19:20 rant was wonderful.

"Hell, I'd take a Fairchild Channel F over that fuckin' thing!" *shocked Danny face*

"I'd be so excited if Dolphin Quest was fucking amazing and you're like holy shit!"

I had tears by the end, man.

I like how Halo is handling battle passes. It's absolutely stupid that regular battle passes expire, especially since you have to pay for it.

Also, that Elix trailer music RIPS and I'm not even afraid to say it.

Just wanna say Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is older than I am! For reference I was born in 1994, and I can't wait to play this cinematic masterpiece of sexual misconduct!

Didnt they have to rework the whole Dying Light 2 narrative after the Chris Avallone debacle? I remember they showed a big narrative trailer at some previous E3 putting big emphasis on the fact he wrote the story and then the sexual harassment scandal came out.

Jeff's description of what he dislikes about going back to old Halo in MCC is exactly what I like. I don't think everything needs the manic pacing of modern Call of Duty.

@tarmander: If you can't wait, the lost PC version got uploaded to the internet archive a few years ago.

The intellivision just seems like it's overproduced for what it should be. Don't get me wrong, the controller looks super interesting and the highlight of the whole project right now, but i would never spend more than 100$ on new hardware to get the ability to play a bunch of simplistic throwback games. This seems like a project where they had to end up with a very affordable, simple option next to the big consoles. Not a project where they had to end up with all these snazzy modern features upping the price.

But maybe i'm totally wrong and there are a good amount of gamers out there that have been yearning for modern updates to classic games so much, that they're willing to pay a premium to support this project making it happen.

Thank you so much for calling out Intellivision on their bullshit with TenNapel. They claim they have almost nothing to do with the dude, and then they plaster his name in the middle of their stream. Dude is a proud boy backing bigot, anyone who works with him can shove off.
