Played a good chunk of the first two games but fell off when I couldn't figure out how to properly make my own bullets - which is, apparently, the real hidden depth of these games. Sure, seems like you can get by without doing so but you'd be missing out on some powerful options. I have no way to run this new one so maybe I'll go back and try to get over that hump with the other two.

I don't know what it is, but this looks really rad to me. The music kinda reminded me of Neir.

Can you customize your character? Or is everyone just that stock boy? I don't think I'd play it if you can't.

@d_w: I looked up if God Eater 3 has a character creator and it definitely does. The AI allies it fills the roster with when Jason fails to find anyone online (i.e. at 31:35) are chracter designs that could have been made in the creator.

@escapee: I wouldn't call the bullet editor "depth". It's the most game-shatteringly busted system I've seen in a game probably ever. You can make bullets so astronomically broken beyond belief that they effectively delete combat from the game altogether.

For example, the one I was using: Fires a "fake" bullet (the fake bullets are essentially used as transport mechanisms for real bullets) straight up into the sky. When it hits its max distance, it automatically fires a sniper bullet with increased damage on distance travelled back down at the monster, which is 100% guaranteed to hit a weakpoint every time. The initial bullet does a shitload of damage due to the maxed out distance bonus, plus it releases a few smaller hits that add up. Now, you can only fire this bullet twice before you're out of OP, however halfway through the game you get an aerial devour which restores half your OP per hit. The bullet requires 0 aiming, you don't even have to be facing the monster. You just shoot twice, devour twice, repeat, and the monster dies in like 2 minute or less. There's no gameplay anymore once you get to that point, which is why I fell off Resurrection, and had no desire to bother with 2 Rage Burst.

It sounds like 3 is more based around the melee combat, which, along with the much better graphics, has me kind of wanting to check it out sometime.

Having played other god eaters the fucking ui and menus are nearly impenetrable but not having to play a vita port is also exciting as the graphics here are crisp and colorful. I'm in the middle of the division 2 private beta for a few more days then I may pick this up as it looks more fun than rage burst which I played on pc last.

@eclipsingsquid: Potential imbalance in the first game is to be expected, I suppose, but I figure something like you describe is your reward for figuring out the bullet system. I'm only going to fool with the second anyway, and I don't bother with guides so I won't some broken recipe handed to me.

The whole weapon system stuff is absolutely my shit but this thing just doesn't look appealing at all to me. It looks far too arcade-y compared to current MH, and I've certainly been spoiled by MH's impeccable monster animation.
Also the character art and cutscenes just look awful, along with the voice acting it's really putting me off from ever giving it a shot.

Just gonna wait for whatever's next for MH or FromSoft's games for my melee action rpg fix.

@escapee: I haven't played 2RB, but from what I've read, it ends up the same way, except you need to be further in the game to get to that point and the mechanic that enables you to sustain your OP is different.

To be honest, unless you mainly care about the story, the way to enjoy those games seems to be to ignore the bullet editor entirely. At least, that's what I would do if I were to go back to them. You get basic bullets of each type for every element by default, so there's not much reason to use it unless you're specifically going for the broken, gameplay-deleting stuff.

@eclipsingsquid: This is why I dropped off GE1 and 2 since once you get the broken bullets down the game becomes to easy no matter what you do. If melee stays strong in GE3 then I can see it becoming a game I stick with for a long time because I can't stand obscenely broken systems.

Apparently this game has an issue on the PC where it won't launch. Like you click "play" or double click the .exe and basically nothing happens. Seems to be connected to Windows 7 or CPUs. Steam forums were not very helpful.

My biggest problem with the game are the levels. They just seem like boring grey corridors and make the whole thing feel like a PS Vita game with higher res textures. Granted the areas in MHW are also fairly tight in terms of actual gameplay space, but at least the environments look nice and have some character.

I'm confused. Is this the same series that Jason was playing previously with all the surf rock? It looks nothing like that!

The idea of a sci-fi monster hunter is pretty solid, but this is not what i would want that to be. The bullet system looks super indepth, but mostly pointless unless you have an interest in breaking the game. The story looks even more melodramatic & impenetrable than something like Kingdom Hearts. The level design & graphics make it seem like an early ps3 game. Even the spell effects look pretty underwhelming. And it seems like you hardly see the enemies change as you 'break' their armor. I want it to be more than seeing white numbers change into yellow numbers.
