I have a sealed copy but no PS2 and I’ve been worried this game has aged poorly, and while it’s definitely a problematic fave, this looks at least just as good as I remembered from the let’s plays I saw back in the day. Masafumi Takada’s music is the icing on the cake! (...Did Jun Fukuda also compose for this?)

I wanna say Jun Fukuda only did the guitar track that plays whenever you activate the God Hand, but when I tried looking it up I have a hard time finding out precisely what he was doing. Definitely looks like Masafumi Takada did the majority of this stuff.

At least I found this summary of a GDC talk he did on the music.

For God Hand, developer Shinji Mikami told Takada that it was a pretty hardcore game so he'd like the music to relax things a little bit. Takada also decided he wanted it to be catchy and nostalgic. If you've played God Hand you'll have noticed the music is very old-school videogame sounding. It's upbeat rock and techno with a lot of guitar solos. This could be the nostalgia Takada was aiming for.

He also used a lot of repetition of musical phrases and motifs. He says musical memory is much like smell memory in that a tune can trigger very intense memories for a person. In God Hand the bosses undergo transformations and appear more than once. Takada would repeat melodies for the boss fights but present them in different arrangements and orchestrations so the player will recall their last encounter.

I saw Ben in person at E3 and I thought I was prepared, but I cannot describe to you with words how tall he is.

Ben & Jason kept joking like they're bad at the game, but they didn't buy any food from the shop, which is a full heal between levels + increases to max HP, or any other power-ups, so they inadvertently just did a challenge run.

This game seems great!

Always regretted never playing this back in the day. It looked to me like Devil May Cry made in the Resident Evil 4 engine, which is exactly my jam. Psyched to see more!

Really loved this. I like God Hand a whole lot (but have also never actually finished it).

Well this is clearly the greatest game ever made.

If it didn't seem hard as balls, I'd be super interested in playing it.

I hope they try that 100 nugget challenge, haha.

Oh nice, the voice actor for the main antagonist guy is the same one that did the voice of Spottswood in Team America.
