Quick Look: GreedFall

Looking forward to this game, but then I heard it gets repetitive

Finished it yesterday and loved it from start to finish. Great world, great story, and above all great quests. There are a few fetch quests, but they are sectioned off to the side, and not required to engage in. I didn't do a single one.

Not all the VO is fantastic, the combat is good, not great and the production values aren't top tier, but it more than scratched all the itches I've had since BioWare... you know.

@ybbaaabby I know it's not a huge deal, but coming from someone of Asian descent, could you please not use the word Katana as a stand in for all swords. Also, thanks for the great work!

As I said in the YT comments of this, this is a very B - / C tier RPG at best but it has alot of heart. Not a entirely bad game from a AA studio.

Ok here’s the thing. If you look at the painting it clearly only has the base layer down. It has no facial features it just has a rough outline of the body position. I realize Vinny is not expected to be an artist but when you criticize at lease make sure you have a basic understanding. Vinny saying it should be a blank canvas is off because it pretty much is a blank canvas if your an artist. It’s nothing more than background layer that will be painted over.

I think she was asking specifically if he owns a Katana not just a sword in general, same as if she said Claymore, Rapier, Scimitar or any of the other types of swords.

Wait, this is exactly my point. I think you're misunderstanding this very small and inconsequential criticism. Why do they show your actual model of the character in the background if they have this setup of the artist with a blank canvas during the character creator? It just seems like they were so close to doing what I think is their intention if they just nudge the camera over a few inches and obscure the 3D model.

I've seen multiple people compare this to Bioware in their prime, and... it's not even close imo. Like, this game isn't terrible, but it's very very much a "Spider" game. Probably the best one they've made, but it's nowhere near Bioware.

Is Kurt actually a time-displaced Special Agent Francis York Morgan? I couldn't help but think Deadly Premonition whenever the cam would cut to his face.

add a bit of vinegar (the more concentrated the better) to that jar vinny. your juicy cucumbers may be diluting what acid is already present if you dont keep the acetic acid at 5% you create an environment that could grow botulinum (leads to botulism).

Eh, it's lower budget with rougher edges obviously, but it doesn't seem that far off IMO, and it's definitely a big step up compared to their earlier stuff. It's sort of like the first Witcher in that it feels like they're definitely getting there.

Watched a trailer for this game yesterday and was impressed with it. Definitely reminds me of the Dragon Age Bioware games and I've been itching for a new one of those for years now. The setting is different and throwing in magic with that is a really new experience. I've heard it is repetitive but honestly, every game is and I have loved a lot of repetitive games. What matters to me is how fun I find those repetitive encounters and with this game who knows.

I'd love to try it and buy it now but my backlog is too full and I'm not 100% sold i'd like it so that's a huge risk. Hopefully it'll hit gamepass or something soon OR see a big sale on black friday.

I've been really enjoying the writing of this game. The sidequests have been pretty captivating leading me to want to finish them so I can see how they end.

Zelda is going to take up my time for now, but I can't wait to get back in and finish it up.

This looks good! This may be the spiders game that I dig into.

I just finished Greedfall last night and I have lots of mixed feelings on it. Leaning more positive. Much like its graphics, Greedfall's story is very low-budget-mediocre but with flashes of absolute greatness. It helps that the game has its heart in the right place. It's not pro-colonialism at all and uses every chance it gets to shit on the three Old World powers and the continent they came from. I don't think that you even have a choice there which is the right move.

I went in with very low expectations and was positively surprised with how much Greedfall has to say about current racial and environmental issues and it does so in a way that I didn't find ham-fisted or heavy-handed. Oh, and the characters/companions are good and will inject themselves into conversations often. Knowing who to bring on which quests can actually be a part of puzzle- and problem-solving.

Greedfall's a little hokey, a little buggy, a little too centrist sometimes, but I enjoyed it and it will probably stick with me.

This is definitely one of those games that I look forward to buying on a 50% off sale at some point. Reminds me a lot of older Bioware games and man... I miss that stuff!

I own 2 katana and have never wanted nor bought them. People just started giving me swords...

God i hope you can upgrade the tactical purse.

@vectortheangel: Japanese cavalry sword, USMC dress sword, a standard one-handed sword that actually dates back to the Middle Ages, and one more if I'm not mistaken.

People here are acting like Dragon Age: Origins was more amazing than it was. Go back and play it. It’s cringy as fuck with unnatural writing and acting that’s all over the place, replete with bad line reads.

Games writing has improved a lot since then. This game is exactly on par with Origins, just on a smaller scale.

I finished this game and the biggest issue I have is that combat never evolves. I played as a mage and combat is exactly the same. Until you unlock the dash skill and then combat is exactly the same from that point out, just a lot easier.

The attack you start the game with is the attack you end the game with (just faster and more powerful). Your strategy never changes. Your allies never get useful (I played on extreme and they pretty much always just died almost immediately).

Why not buy it now if you have missed it?

I kinda wish Spiders would just make a game with no combat and make it all just a graphical adventure type thing because every game of theirs I've played always falls apart when it comes to the mechanics.

@stradalemc: I'm pretty sure he's saying it would be more effective/neat if the character creation was the canvas and then it cutting to your finished character. I do agree that it's a little weird to do the setup of a portrait sitting, then not use it.

I think that I want to play this. I'm loving the aesthetic, with its "whatever era of real world history" style of clothing, architecture, and technology juxtaposed with some fantasy-ass fantasy creatures, magic, and whatnot.

I'm definitely the opposite of Abby. Give me the long cutscenes. Give me long dialogue. Give me "two people just talking to eachother"

I'm guessing Abby would dislike Mass Effect.

I like what I see of this game. I'm not oblivious to its faults and rough edges but one of my favourite games ever is the first Mass Effect. Even with all the bugs and performance issues, I loved the entire experience. This game just might scratch that itch. I haven't found it in a long time.

Thank god for Spiders. always slowly but surely getting better at what they do. They're like a smaller dev attempting to make AAA games. This seems to be around the same quality level as the witcher 2, but with a worse story. Not too shabby. Could be a cool pick up at a lower pricepoint.
