Been waiting for this all day. Had to miss it yesterday.

The Vive still feel like its at Dk2 levels. I think it will be amazing at the next iteration.

Now continuing watching, I do not think VR is ready for the room scale thing. Motion controllers however are essential.

That slingshot demo really is making me miss the Portal universe. I would literally Eternal Sunshine myself of Portal just so I could experience those two games over again, especially Portal 2.

I'd like to show a million people that personality core bit, super funny, at least the first time you see each one.

And bringing the headset, roomspace and motion controller stuff together makes this actually really compelling... Expensive but the fidelity is there, Oculus is a bit cheaper but doesn't complete an experience, it's just a weird way of playing games you already play. This is something different, and that's exciting... Oculus better counter valve on this and up their tech.

Loving the stream. Stuff seems pretty cool. Not sure if the software justifies the price yet, but I could see it getting there.

However, the one thing from this series of streams [I am a bit over half way through] is I REALLY don't like the idea of this whole teleport system all these games have to move. It seems really lame....... I haven't used one of these headsets but that very much turns me off if that is what those games are going to be full of.

Like Jeff said, when it comes down to it, both headsets will be functionally identical. Once the Touch controllers ship, the Rift will be able to do all of the same stuff. I'm sad that they're not shipping alongside the headset, but this stream is making me super fuckin' excited for the end of the year when it all comes together.

I'm sad this isn't titled "What A Time To Be a Vive" anymore, the title was appropriate considering the video begins with a demonstration of the digital dash

Ok, thats perfect then, once they're in tech parity we can start seeing some great stuff from both!

It looks awful I really want to get my hands on one of these headsets and play a game like Alien Isolation with a controller I wanna know how well that works because the teleportation stuff just reeks of early Kinect software.

I'm not sure if the Vive video output has some stabilization or it was Dan's manic head movement in the Rift but I can watch this footage without getting a headache. This gives me hope to be able to view VR content going forward, just no Dan cam.

Okay, the Vive makes a much more convincing argument for VR as of right now. The motion controllers seem absolutely crucial.

Once I sort out my finances I think I might end up with one by the end of the year.

Dangit! I was going to wait for somebody else I know to buy it first but this video sold me on it so hard I just dropped the almost $900 on it. My only solace is that people who preordered many months ago had to go through an even longer period of anticipation. :)

@evilsbane: The teleportation stuff didn't make sense to me until I tried a Gear VR and realized that strafing in VR suuuucks.

It doesn't make me barf, but it feels unpleasant, and this is something you do for entertainment, so any amount of "unpleasant" just makes me go do other stuff.

Now, that being said, I haven't tried these fancy 90hz overpowered versions of VR. If they can play that crazy Spiderman thingy without immediately bailing out, maybe it's less of a deal and devs are overcompensating from working with older versions that didn't handle nausea that well? Either way, it felt a lot more natural to me within VR than what it looks like on video.

What I think should happen is that room space VR should design for... well, room space. That water bear thing they play later seems perfect. Likewise Airmech.

That´s a bunch of stuff you don't realize until you try it. 3rd person is cool, 1st person can suck real bad if the movement is not right. Teleporting feels surprisingly natural. Shooters suck. Board games are cool. Using your face as a mouse totally works. You can make perfect positional audio in stereo within VR and it's just as cool as the video stuff. The tricks devs know to make movement seem cooler in 2d are terrible in VR. Humans never run sideways and there are good reasons for that.

None of it makes sense until you try it, and it all looks backwards in video. I went so quickly from thinking this was a cool way to play first person games to thinking I mostly just want to play a bunch of animated board games and slow paced RPGs. And again, it's not me feeling nauseous, it just feels bad.

I noticed Justin Roiland straight away. I guess none of the guys have seen Rick and Morty yet.

I was definitely more impressed with this than the Rift, and I'd totally pay the $200 more for the controllers and room tracking. I think you'd be crazy not too now, they seems really important. Looks like there's a bunch more junk out for it right now and it seems more "hackable" too, not too mention a bunch of other small things that make it a bit more appealing.

We should (hopefully) see the Rift catch up at some point though.

Does anyone know if HTC/Valve have said if they will offer a first-party 360 degree treadmill walking thing for full range of motion? Or is that just a third-party thing for now? And does anyone even sell one of those yet? That would completely eliminate the need for room scale, wouldn't it?
