Quick Look: Kingdom Hearts III

Nomura is a hack who does of a good job mangling games himself. Surprised Tabata was able to salvage anything at all.

@deathpooky: heres a hint about people who in the age of youtube wrap up heres what your missing in 8 minute videos...people who dont know about a thing are not too busy or too uninterested. It doesnt take super research to dive into a show or series. People just dont have any want to try engage in a thing and to make themselves feel less standoffish to new things they say how convoluted and unreachable it is to understand. Grad school physics is tuff but people who want to learn it take enough time to do so. Imagine if their excuse for not learning it was WELL I DONT WANNA WATCH 30 minutes of video to understand. Youd look at them like hum...30 minutes and youd understand all this physics stuff i like talking about...naw. People just dont want to engage in stuff as much these days. Thats just my take and opinion obviously. Happens to everyone.

I don't understand why Ben keeps being in KH videos when he doesn't like them and just takes the opportunity to talk shit about Kingdom Hearts

@neocalypso: If Tabata did such a good job then why was the game so incomplete that it required story finishing dlc that flopped so hard it was canceled midway though and Tabata had to leave the company? At the very least Kingdom Hearts doesn't have Goofy saying "How did I get this cool scar? I'm not gonna tell you! Go play the dlc to find out you gullible sap!"

*raises hand* I. . .I have a question. Why are the Heartless in the Toy Box world toy-sized and not human-sized?

This looks very smooth & snappy. Only concern i have is that it might not have the tough-as-nails optional bossbattles? This all looks extremely easy so far.

Whoever voices Buzz in this game does a very good job of sounding like Tim Allen, damn!

The air-step mechanic is fucking awful.

I dont want to spoil this game, but I also know I wont get to play it for awhile (just have a huge backlog and 0 time) so I may as well watch the quick look, right?

@genericbrotagonist: ehh...kingdom hearts has like 9 complete games and still has a disastrous web of a story under Nomura, i can't imagine what these games look like before they're finished, so whatever fever dream he had of Versus XIII, it wasn't going to wind up that good, it would be flashy for sure - and FFXV is now that flashy after all those updates - but there is nothing about that narrative that would have hit the same beats the same way Tabata did as he's proven with the other games he worked on the story for - meaning not Third Birthday.

Nomura and Square Enix had a barely complete mess and had to piece it together under someone else. I don't really blame Nomura, there was clearly some bad mismanagement that continues to this day. By the end of Royal Edition though, it was one of my favourite games out of Square in a long, long time. There is more I wanted to see out of the story - as I do out of basically ever game I play - but only because they did such a good job of making me interested in the world and characters that I just wanted to play more and more.

Tabata clearly understands the business and how to make games, his team loves him and he frankly deserves better than to be pushed around on a project that was some frankenstein's monster thing for like 5 years.

I am enjoying KH3 a lot, but unlike XV there's not a second in those cutscenes where I am going to feel or care about anyone in an actual emotional way instead of just curiosity of how the story will go.

I am so far beyond giving a shit about the plot of these games. It's less that the story is oh-so-confusing than it is just flat out bad and poorly realized. Screenwriting 101 teaches you to establish the rules of your world before you do anything else. Nomura completely fucking skipped that step and has thus created a world with zero rules and the most "I'm making it up as I go" air about it that I've ever seen in a fictional story. For me, that makes it impossible to care about what is happening or why it is happening.

The game does, however, look super fun to play, so I'mma buy it anyway!

I'd love to play this just to run around all of the Disney worlds and see the different characters but I know that everything else would infuriate me. I think I just want a good Disney game.

I have never seen one of these games in motion and I am very perplexed.

Loving this game so far. I think it’s my favorite KH game, it has the perfect ratio of Disney to anime bullshit. Also perfect opening Jan, I played that part yesterday and loved hearing Ben’s confusion.

The reason I like the combat in Kingdom Hearts is it's flashy and over the top. I realized watching this quick look is I think it's the same feeling people get from the fighting in Marvel vs Capcom.

As a huge Toy Story fan, these soundalikes kill me I cant stand them. That's my only thought on this "video game"

Everyone knows John Ratzenburger played Cliff, not Norm. Jeez, Ben.

Also, the soundalikes range from "hey pretty good" (Buzz) to "ew, no" (Woody).

Heh, If Ben is upset after 10 seconds of the "Friend in me" soundtrack, he's really going to love hearing it on loop for 2 hours.
