Wow what a weird game

I get a real Metal Gear Survive vibe from this: lots of potential and some really cool ideas/systems, but just thoroughly botched execution. Whether it's a lack of vision, budget, or just talent...who can say? But, like with Metal Gear Survive, even knowing this will be trash, I still kinda want to poke at it. When it's on sale for under ten bucks.

I will say, if the one thing that comes out of this game is future AI has the intelligence to climb on top of a van to shoot down at the jerkwad hiding behind it, Square Enix will deserve some serious respect for that one glorious achievement. The Division 2 AI is good at flanking, but I've yet to see one jump on top of the vehicle I'm taking cover behind and just start unloading into my dome.

The game should be renamed, Left Alone. This is really disappointing. I was initially intrigued at Yoji Shinkawa working outside of Kojima Productions. The idea of a future militaristic tactical RPG like Front Mission making a return seemed promising. Watching this makes Metal Gear Survive look like a competent game with more production value. It is baffling how a game copying MGSV can get every little thing wrong.

The ending for the Quick Look was fantastic.

Yeah, I'm seconding what Austin said: not enough info for the player to effectively stealth. At least we got to witness Alex Silent-Assassin-Suit-Only the opening with "I Love You!"

I'm recovering from fractured ribs and laughing feels like death so I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say that the ending to this video nearly killed me.

Did nobody at Square Enix at any point look at this game and say some improvements would probably be needed before it ships? My god, this game is awful. The next Best of Giant Bomb Quicks just made itself I think. To be fair though, I'd pay an extra premium just to watch East play through all of it.

I can't get over how much the first character sounds like Adachi (different VO actor, tho). I kept expecting him to start talking about bitches at some point.

I think it's funny how there's a specific item called "IED" when they're all IEDs.

The presentation of the game is actually not that bad (big text dumps notwithstanding) but the controls seem super clunky and the lousy enemy AI and bullet sponginess of the player are such a bummer.

I'd probably pay $10 for this and have some dumb anime fun, though.

Those World of Tanks posters all over the walls in the game is pretty dumb.

Honestly, I'm kind of into this. If I find it for 15 bucks or under I'll probably get it and have a decent time.

This game really feels like a weird forgotten budget title from the PS3/Xbox 360 era. WANZERS.

This is seriously one of the most obnoxious games I have seen in a while.

Square Enix really putting in work with this and Quiet Man last year.

Front Mission deserves better than being tied to something like this, I'm not sure what dev team would go, " hey, you know that series about playing tactical strategy with giant robots? What if we took the giant robots and tactics out?"

Front Mission is a hard series to go back and find these days it seems, but I recommend it to anyone that likes Fire Emblem or Xcom.

This looks like a bad game, but I still just love how much Dan wanted Vinny to fail, just so he could prove the problem wasn't his "unique" approach to stealth games.

There should be more coverage of Front Mission: Gun Hazard on the site. I have that game on my SNES Classic and it is pretty rad.

I was hoping this was a prequel to Left 4 Dead before the zombies appeared. You'd just sit around at a boring office job.

Voice acting is great. The guard at 18:00 sounds like he's about as fanatical as a manager at an Office Depot.

More like, "Left at the Store on the Shelf Collecting Dust".

For some reason this game reminds me a bit of Valkyria Chronicles with all the tactics & turn based stuff stripped out. Maybe it's the anime people in a war setting, maybe it's the third person gameplay, maybe it's the ps2-era screen filling tutorial screens.

Despite all the negativity, a part of me still wants to see something in this. The traps seem to function fine, the story could go in some interesting ways, and while the lack of a 'free' takedown button might feel archaic, i don't think that's an immediate dealbreaker. I think a game like Styx: Master of Shadows was more about avoiding enemies instead of taking them out as well.

But then i look at this AI zigzagging his way towards a can and wonder if a game with so many problems is worth trying to see through.

Can we please take a moment to note to Dan that that's not Russia but Ukraine?

(and that the game looks like it's vaguely based on the real conflict going on these last few years)
