@alex You should take Aria’s power “Flare” as an extra power from the machine. It’s a wonderful Biotic Detonation trigger the best in the game

@vinny

You're partly right about Javik. He's got about the same amount of dialogue as the other party members. BUT, with that said, he's downright essential for the Priority: Thessia mission as he'll provide some arguably crucial dialogue during its latter portion. Would definitely recommend you guys bring him along then.

As I read some of those early Mass Effect books, going to Grissom Academy was super exciting.

I remember liking Revelation the most, as far as prequel books go. Curious if it holds up.

Yay! Happy to see this mission didn’t get timer’d. All is well again (except for the currently-still-happening Reaper apocalypse situation)

Glad the mission didn’t expire. I’ve been mirroring Alex’s playthrough at home and got a message after omega that everyone died there so was worried. I’m also running my game with the expanded galaxy mod though and apparently I learned it tweaks some of the mission timers in the game.

Glad those 30 year old teens are safe.

That Mattock was Alex's end game gun for the last one. Shooting it just feels good, but the Valkerie is alright already if not similar. Think You get plenty of money for upgrades, specially with DLC giving you extra.

One character in this ep is clearly not a voice actor.

Your squadmates will move around the ship sometimes between missions. They'll usually have commentary on what you've been doing. You can check the map when on the ship to see who is where at the time. Don't forget you can talk to Cortez down in the armory, too!

*Girl's dying on the floor in front of Shepard*

Liara: "Goddess she's bleeding! Shepard, we need to help her!"

Alex: "...Where is she?"

*Alex does a full 180 and turns away from the girl and instead goes and picks up the Mattock*

*Vinny tries to remember the Mattock*

*Girl dies*

Javik: "She is dead."

Alex: "...Who's dead?"

-------

Come on people! Pay attention to your surroundings, it's not all picking up items and headshots.

I'm glad Alex found weapons he likes, but hopefully he'll hit the firing range or smthg and try out some other ones. The Mattock was my favorite, as far as I remember.

When Alex visited the embassy floor of the Citadel, he went into the Spectre chamber and there was a terminal that said the two engineers were held by the Alliance to stand trial for being Cerberus. Alex issued a pardon (that is, he pushed the A button) and had them transferred to the Normandy. And that's how they wound up on the ship.

I think the engineers were detained for being part of Cerberus but you got them loose in a previous episode. Responded to an email or something.

I hope Alex has a look at the alternate costumes for the new crembers he's unlocked! Each person should have about four different looks.

@vinny you should know @alex is carrying the heaviest possible assault rifle.

also am I remembering wrong or could you shoot the cockpit of the mechs enough to kill the pilot then use the mech yourself?

Its interesting to see how other people play these games, Alex runs through the room picking up everything while triggering, then ignoring every bit of environment's visual and audio storytelling, then is confused when he hears "she is dead". Cerberus dudes accidentally killing someone and trying to figure out who it was, Cerberus dudes trying to coax the biotic kid to drop his shield... Nothing wrong with playing like that, these are interesting but aren't core story points, but it really drives home how incredibly difficult it is to do environmental storytelling without *forcing* unskippable cutscenes.

On the weapons: next time you're on the citadel, you should really think about checking out the shooting range. It's in the Spectre section of the Embassies. It's a really easy way to test out a bunch of the weapons and see which one you like. A lot of them play quite differently (I remember personally liking the Cerberus Harrier).

Also: while you're in the Spectre room, that's where Spectre Requisitions is located. You looked through those weapons in the weapon buying menu at the end of the episode today. Those weapons are by far the best ones in the game, so you might wanna save up for them. There's a pistol there that I think Alex might quite enjoy! Since you're doing so well in combat anyway, it's not a lot of use buying upgrades for weapons and things, might as well save your money for the cool shit!

@gkhan: Good advice, but on this difficulty not only could Alex ignore every other gun he picks up negating the shooting range, he could totally ignore the upgrade system for whatever weapon he likes the most. Unless he ups the difficulty its probably pointless since I think he's just trying to skip through the combat and see the story.

@alex@vinny The Mattock was your assault rifle from Mass Effect 2 that was semi-automatic and had high damage.

@alex and @vinny, for the Cerberus Shield guys, instead of shooting at their feet, aim for the "mail" slot at the top of the shield. You can get a headshot and drop them immediately

It makes me so happy that Jack found a place she belonged, outside of the constant warfare of the Normandy crew. She had a terrible childhood and channeled it into making a better life for the kids she's teaching. :)

Every one of these Mass Alex videos reminds me why environmental storytelling in video games has to be so braindead obvious without a hint of subtlety or nuance. Otherwise, 90% of people just completely miss them. If people at giant bomb who play video games for a living and are ostensibly experts in their field can miss such basic storytelling cues, just imagine what the rest of the general game playing populace is missing.

Alternatively, the Armour Piercing mod (which is probably one of the best modifications in the game) will bypass the damage nullification of the Guardian shield so you can do damage wherever you hit them, and hilariously disrespects the cover-based rules of the game by applying damage shooting right through cover.

There's also a number of weapons which have this armor piercing effect innately, including the Executioner Pistol (which I am dying to see them use someday for how fun it is, seeing as it will probably down a Guardian in a single hit based off how easily they're wiping out everything else)

This mission fucked me up on my initial playthrough. Kahlee Sanders looks exactly like my canon Shepard. Like, EXACTLY. It was so weird watching my Shepard essentially talking to her mirror image without comment.

Hang on! I remember why I never finished this game now. It was this mission. The part at the end glitched out. Enemy was stuck in geometry or despawned, 'students barrier' kept going down but there was no one to shoot and nothing for me to do about it. Soft-lock followed by mission fail. The glitch remained after I loaded in an earlier save. I was pissed off about that and never played the game again.

Alex has been really running into the difficulty reduction of ME3. Every difficulty is about a full level down from the past game, so if you up it by one you should be at about where you were for 2 and firefights will feel more exciting (and have more dudes to shoot)
