That Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer is fucking amazing. Kojima knows how to make a trailer.

When he said first trailer I thought it was going to be the one where it was an FPS.

That MGS4 trailer, as good as it is, kinda makes me worried about MGSV because it's a surprisingly revealing trailer, the themes and plot they set up in it carry through pretty much the entire game. There are one or two twists at the end, but MGS4 follows its trailer far more than any previous games have.

I think if Kojima does the same thing with MGSV I'm going to end up massively disappointed. MGS4 turned out to be my least favorite of the series by a wide WIDE margin. Though ironically I think it will be the most enjoyable Metal Gear Scanlon to watch for a series vet.

I wonder, if they end up doing MGSV for the Scanlon series in the future, how long that's going to be? Because unlike MGS1-4, it doesn't look like it's going to be as short as game you can finish "in two eight hour sittings". It'll probably be more like Peace Walker, where progression relies partly on you getting better gear.

Also, I haven't been as excited for Phantom Pain as I think I should be. The Metal Gear Scanlon series has pulled me right back onto the hype train. September 1st can't come soon enough.

To answer Drew's question, no, they don't speak Japanese in an American accent. You'd be able to tell.

On the other hand, I still feel like with The Phantom Pain, they have shown fuck all in the trailers aside from random destruction, random child soldiers, Skull Face getting out of a chopper and just sneering at stuff, the (reveal trailer) hospital scene, some shit with rescuing Miller in Afghanistan, and some random scenes of Quiet and one-eyed dog on Mother Base. I haven't been religiously following every single trailer, but that's all I really remember them showing, aside from some generic gameplay footage in a few different environments.

I'm at least willing to believe that game might still be holding something back. It certainly hasn't revealed enough that I can piece together any kind of coherent narrative out of it.

This was such a silly episode, and I love it.

I'm fairly certain that MGS4 has the record for the longest cut scene in a game, the end that runs for 72 minutes.

It's so strange to see MGS4 scenes rendered in such low quality, when compared to how the game actually turns out.

As I think about it, they would almost have to play MGS: PEACEWALKER before MGS5. Events in PEACEWALKER are directly tied into MSG5: GROUND ZEROES. Otherwise, you have no idea who Chico is suppose to be, or why Miller is so angry with Paz.

I watch these for Drew's reactions.

It's no exaggeration to say I watched that MGS4 trailer at least a hundred times. I bought a PS3 exclusively for MGS4, and that's pretty much all I've ever played on it. I call it my Metal Gear Machine.

Having gone back to MGS4 not that long ago, it still holds up extremely well from a gameplay and visuals standpoint. I think this will probably be the easiest one for Drew to come to grips with, in those regards anyway. Story wise, well, it'll be a fun ride.

Just a tip for Dan and Drew, Solid Snake was saluting Big Boss's grave, not The Boss.

McGrubber is a terrible movie, almost as bad as most music made before 1984..

Wow, i totally forgot that they changed the models for some characters in MGS4 so much, Merryl and Naomi's especially.

They fucked around a lot with the MGS4 trailers. I can't watch this yet cause I'm at work, but the first teaser for MGS4 was musical chairs with Raiden and Snake, the first trailer pretended to be a FPS game before Snake steps out of nowhere and beats the shit out of the person in first person, then there was the long-ass real trailer, and finally there was a trailer of Young Snake groping naked statues just to confuse the hell out of people. :)

Back in the day, Ryan Payton (when he ran the English Kojima Productions podcast) pointed out pre-release that people should get to the point at the beginning when you can immediately start saving (which is when you get access to Snake's Octocam, and I think immediately after the late titlecard) to make a save, then exit to the main menu, go to the Mission Briefings, and watch Act 1's Mission Briefing, because that was a cutscene that was cut out of the main game because Kojima and staff felt that the cutscenes were already running too long. However, many people have said that they better understood what was happening in the game because of watching it. Its an integral exposition sequence that got cut out that you'd only pick up on if you watched every piece of preview and trailer content that came out before release.

I thought it was Gray Fox's grave? In any case they never actually explain whose it was in MGS4, you have to look outside of the game to find the answer.

I would pay good money to watch Drew and Dan play Peace Walkers :D One of the few MGS titles I'm almost completely lost on.
