Once you are in first person with R1, it should be L1 to switch to iron sights mode.

Be careful with those life meds. You can't just use them like rations. I found maybe 3 over the course of the game. They are much better spent on boss fights!

Drew should really try holding up some enemies! It's really awesome and the mechanic gets expanded in rest of the games in the series. Learn how to do it now and it'll pay off later!

Yeah I agree that Dan is perhaps influencing Drew's play style a little too much. But Drew is getting through stuff ok.

If I had one suggestion I would say treat it like Assassins Creed Black Flag as far as the stealth goes. You can hide in bushes and sneak around and stab people in the back. But if someone sees you they get alerted and go to wear they saw you, they don't alert everyone right away until they confirm. So immediately move to another area and hide as fast as possible. Fast is the key. If you try and crawl to cover they will see you and call for backup.

I hated getting spotted in this game. I found it faster to just die and reload compared for waiting for all the alerts to go down.

But yeah, I would say move fast if your out in the open and move slow if you're hidden.

And more codec calls! Especially Major Zero, Drew will love all the times he talks about James Bond

I kinda hope that Drew goes back to the swamp area. I forget what exactly is there (other than Croc Cap), but there's also more camoflage colors to find out there that can be handy for future sneaking so I hope he makes sure to explore more.

MGS3 is so much more wide, open and awesome than MGS2 so he needs to take advantage of it!

Having never played the mgs series (except some of the first game when i was a child) and experiencing it for the first time with this show, i must say that i'm just loving Snake Eater! So far i'm appreciating the setting, characters and silly humor far more than the other two games (especially more than 2)

I never really realized the potential of CQC either, until I played Peace Walker and later Ground Zeroes where it's extra kick-ass.

I believe there is also a camouflage elsewhere in the swamp that helps for getting the toy frogs, but I guess that won't be useful for Metal Gear Scanlon. It is pretty funny though. (It is the cartoon ducks camo.)

I find it pretty weird that I don't even remember the Virtuous Mission part of the game at all, but I somehow still remember where the croc cap is located after all these years.

@danryckert@drewbert Guys, it's important to know that catching animals in cages and maybe throwing them at guards could be fun, but that's not the point of the cage system.

If you kill an animal and keep it too long to eat for later, it will spoil, and be worthless (maybe detrimental if I remember right). If you tranq and cage an animal, it will be alive and fresh for eating later at any time, and will not spoil.

It's important to keep some live animals in cages, because there are no animals to eat in the places where there's a lot of people (inside bases, etc).

Drew you should save life med as it is rare compared to the rations in other mgs games

I look forward to Drew's reaction when he gets the fork.

Make sure to remember that interrogating guards with the knife leads to some really funny dialogue and relevant information to the area you're in.

Jason's 'WHAT?' at the end was priceless. Just about the perfect reaction to that line of dialogue.

May be wrong, but I think what Dan is trying to do is make The Sorrow more interesting and explain why that battle is so good, otherwise it's going to be fairly dull.

Unlike the first games, it's pretty easy to reset and retry encounters in this game. Just pop the fake death pill, and you'll die instantly. (Don't eat the revival pill obviously)

That made dealing with stealth encounters much more enjoyable for me. No more running around in circles waiting to get killed by imbecile guards, if you get noticed.

108:35 to 108:50 is one of the funniest things I've seen on this site.

I just realised the Boss' raincoat is the same one Solid Snake has on in the MGS2 intro!

L1 for iron sights on some larger weapons. this is important!

Drewabara, Drewabara...

Oh drew, you guys discuss the fact you might miss out on stuff and then leave the big lake area and just plow on. Same with the next area. The exploration trigger in my aches watching crevases of the map untouched:P Look at the map to know your layought before continue in an area every time, just to make things easier.

@drewbert Maybe make a check-list like you do when playing simulators. Map, Camo-count, check in on animals/hunt new, explore...

I was looking forward to seeing Drew get the weird/funny camos, like the zombie face paint and the crocodile cap. O well, hopefully he explores the environments more in the future updates.

Also, there are a lot of great codec calls with Para-Medic concerning animals and plants that you catch, so I would recommend getting in the habit of killing/catching/eating wildlife and giving her a ring. Not to mention it's handy having extra food in case your stamina runs low.

Drew, the scene where Snake meets Eva he ask her, "Who are the patriots" you seemed baffled this is why. If you speak with Major Zero through the radio before the interaction with Eva, He tells you to ask first "Who are the Patriots", and the agent should reply "La-Le-Lu-Le-Lo." That should clear up that scene. There are revelations that happen in the radio conversations.

Dan the trick you were trying with snake didn't work because he did not spin snake around enough he has to spin snake around for a good 10 seconds straight for the funny "trick" to work. Try it again you do not need to eat anything

Also Drew you can leave on the motion detector on for a decent amount of time. Most importantly when you grab an enemy and CLICK IN THE LEFT STICK the enemy will reveal important locations on the map such as weapons. Don't be hesitant to sneak up behind an enemy and point the gun to his back and hold square, while holding square you can move snake around this is useful to move around him.

THERE IS AN IMPORTANT A RADIO CONVERSATION AFTER FIRST OCELOT BATTLE PLEASE CALL EVA this can give insight to the whole series. I found this out like years later. Enjoy this wish it was longer or at least two a week.

Calm down people! I doubt you managed to snag every little secret and master every nuance of this game on your first fucking play through. Shit, I had a guide and I still missed stuff. Let the man play the game how he wants, let Dan tell him what to do, let him learn on his own how to play MGS3. IT'S GOING TO BE OK.

@drewbert while crouched you can stealth crawl by using the d pad, not only when your walking.

Another great episode, guys! Tons of fun, and it's great to see Drew really getting good at the game. It's making me want to buy the HD version and play it again. Loved it so much.

I definitely didn't find the croc cap my first time playing this. It's funny, but for like, a minute.

Wow, I'd never seen the NAKED conversation. I am so excited for this. Definitely the game in the series I know the least about despite having beaten it twice.

He's going to play the entire game like call of duty directly engaging people and shooting them with an AK isn't he?......

Man if ANY of the games in the series was there a good time to endeavor not to kill people this is the one.

The amount of exposition in the opening sequence is astounding. I'm not sure if that was supposed to be funny, or just plain terrible writing.

I wonder how can you go through this game without knowing about the CQC slam and other CQC grapple moves. How the hell did Dan play MGS4 then?

Dan needs to stop constantly telling Drew what to do . It's getting annoying.

In retrospect, that entire phone conversation was kinda pointless. Definitely a good argument in favor of more editing in videogames.
