Thank you, Dan.

Dan needs to stop telling drew how cool and badass everything is. Getting frustrating to watch. Also try not to laugh every two seconds. Jesus.

Am I the only one who's not enjoying this as much as Metal Gear Scanlon 2 so far? Still having fun with it, but I find my mind wandering quite a bit, which didn't happen with the last series. I don't think it's any fault of Dan or Drew's though. I guess maybe MGS3 may be more fun to play in a lot of ways compared to MGS2, but it's just not as fun to watch someone else play. The story isn't as interesting or revolutionary and it's not deliberately trying to subvert your expectations like 2 did, so Drew's just kinda trucking through it in a pretty standard way instead of really having to stop and piece together what's put in front of him. MGS2 is a goddamn priceless work of art, and this is just a fantastic video game. Bound to happen, I guess.

Seems to be an artifact of Japanese. From what I understand, it's similar to saying "Mmhmm" or "Okay" in English. A way of acknowledging what's been said to you. It should probably have been translated a bit less literally? I dunno, fan subs and scanlations often end up being better than the official dubs and translations in anime and manga (And manhwa, too, especially in the case of The Company scanlations vs official Naver/LINE ones) in part due to the more direct, literal translation the fans tend to do (not always, but often enough to be noticeable). Tough job, that.

Just my two cents, Dan is really forcing his playstyle onto Drew aggressively. Dan should let Drew play the game how he wants. If he doesn't want to kill everyone, why make him do it?

Also he's gonna have to fight like 900 guys in the Sorrow fight if Dan keeps up with this.

Yeah, I appreciate Dan for driving this feature but since approx the middle of MGS2 he's been talking *way* too much during the videos.

Come on. I'm not the only one who thought of this every time I play the first few hours of MGS3, right?

That was intentional by Kojima. Originally the games plot was going to focus more on the space race between the US and Russia and Space Oddity was set to play during the games ending credits. Plus Kojima seems to be majorly influenced by Bowie, just look at some of the character designs in the series not to mention Big Boss' new Diamond Dogs in MGS5.

This is the first episode I've ever quit watching early. I felt like Dan was REALLY twisting Drew's arm to make him play the way he wanted him to. I don't care if he walks by a ration in the jungle or whatever.

Also, the cutscenes were very hard to enjoy while Dan was constantly announcing how cool every other thing that happened was, or narrating the humor of Snake being in the box. And the frequent insistence on "stab that guy in the face!! Slit his throat!!!" was pretty creepy. I just thought it was really immature overall, and hard to sit through.

I like watching this series because I like being able to see these games again from a newcomer's perspective, but it gets trampled with someone trying to direct the experience that the others involved are having.

Dan! Stop telling Drew to kill everyone and start telling him to call codecs!

Drew! Keep ignoring Dan's instructions but call codecs more! It's especially fun during times you're not supposed to be calling, like mid-battle and when you're dying. :)

Most importantly: call sigint with the M1911A1 equipped. It's a great call. :)

@pabba: Pretty sure this is one of the scenes from the bonus disc that came with Subsistence. It basically had a collection of goofy made-up/altered cutscenes. They're all pretty amazing, especially the one with Raiden trying to go back and time to kill Big Boss so he can be the main character.

not sure how i feel about Dan constantly telling Drew to kill people given the effect it will have later on in the game(both on that one boss and on bonus items), he should at least let him know that its maybe not the best idea to kill when you don't have to

It'll make that one boss fight hilarious because of the numbers involved. This is a good thing.

Drew really should try to defeat bosses by going for their stamina though. I think he would find the bonus items to be a lot of fun.

The only problem with that "fight" will be how many times will he try to reach the end (and "die" anyway) before he realizes what he's suppose to do to finish it?

This episode bored me a bit, I find this game to be so bad and I hate the way it is written.. even more goofy than 1 and 2. I quit the game around this point as well and I'm remembering why...

For me MGS is 1 + The Tanker in 2 and that is about it, MGS5 sounds even worse now that they announced today how Snake will barely talk.

I absolutely adore this "game". I don't give two shits about the gameplay - but the story, and especially that ending is enough to warrant the shoddy gameplay, and I'm glad Drew is at least engrossed in the story. It's much simpler and easier to follow than the previous games.

I just want to point out that the Davey Crockett mini nuke launcher is a real thing. I saw it myself at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds once in Maryland. Its hard to remember, but they either never fired it or only fired it once because they realized it was impossible for the users to not catch some of the radioactivity from the blast. I remember when I originally played MGS3, I thought it was too ridiculous to be real.

Drew, you've been doing great this series! And Dan, I feel that your advice has improved too since MGS2.

Regarding your respective improvements, I have a bit of advice: Drew, if you're in the zone during an intense battle, don't feel you have to try out what Dan recommends the second he says it. Keep that flow state going!

I think that's what's pissing people off about Dan's tips. Since Drew has been doing so much better, they're worried that Dan might break Drew's flow. Dan, you don't need to hold your tongue so much as Drew should consider ignoring you in certain situations.

@confideration: A-12? Sr-71? Kojima stole the design from Cobra.

@nickferg: The plane used is most likely the SR-71A and not the A-12. There's a side window just behind the cockpit and it only exists on the SR-71 since there's a navigator's compartment which is separate from the cockpit.

As a side note, the color scheme used looks like the same one on the SR-71 on exhibit at the Boeing Museum of Flight out in Washington.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kojima and art team went on some pre-production trips to see some of the era-appropriate planes and vehicles, and that particular SR-71 may actually be the direct reference they used for the one in MGS3.

There's a great article here:

I understand that Dan certainly means well, and is no doubt excited to have his friend play one of his favorite series, but he can be a bit too much. I think it almost certainly detracts from Drews enjoyment. Just pull back a little and let Drew play the game in a way he wants to play.

Even Drew was getting annoyed with the "throw the snake!" stuff at the end. Dan needs to be a little more hands off - you can tell since he hasn't played this in a while he's getting crazy excited over every single thing, but that leaves little room for Drew's actual first time reactions to stuff (which was the point of the series, I think).

Here's a good rule of thumb for participating in actual, readable comment threads (like many of the ones found on Giant Bomb) : Feel free to disregard anything that comes after the phrase "You can just tell-" because it is, 9/10 times, puuuuure projection.
