Clearly nobody here watches UPF, cause they're going into overdrive to get this finished before the 20th. MGScanlon week, maybe more.

Fuck yes. I saw on UPF that they were doing an accelerated schedule and then was disappointed when I didn't see a monday MGS video under the "coming up on giantbomb" tab. This just made my evening.

95 minutes? I sure hope they get to screaming raven, but I suppose there will be 45 minutes of cutscenes before then.

Also, Drew totally had the right idea about using the octocamo during the tailing mission and then talked himself out of it.

This MGScanlon week is going to be awesome. I just powered through Acts 2, 3, and 4 this weekend and I can't wait to see how Drew does with watching cutscenes.

@strife777: It was announced on UPF that there will be one episode per day this week due to them wanting to finish this series near the anniversary of the first Metal Gear Scanlon.

I hope that my torso will, one day, be legendary.

I think the amount of cutscenes early on might have Drew thinking that there is a lot of MGS4 to play. Basically all of the gameplay is in Acts 1 and 2. It's Cutscene city from here on.

Everything about Big Boss's body is fucked up, in about every way imaginable.

I'm glad that Drew is still emotionally invested enough to be blown away by all these reveals. I was worried he was too exhausted or confused to care at this point. Hopefully that reverence continues into the next chapters.

All of this was and is super conflicting. You make it though the emotional journey of MGS3, and then you find out all of them lived long enough to become the villains. I had forgotten that Les Enfants Terribles came from an anonymous Japanese woman - seems an oversight considering how inextricably everything else is tied together.

@danryckert The last 10 minutes were dope, hearing you guys process all that info. However, I would like for you to do a premium podcast after you finish just free-associating all your MGS thoughts into a microphone. Bring in anyone you can, and for the love of God explain to Brad what a metaphor is - he doesn't seem to understand that 'in the walls of the White House' is not the literal place where the Patriots were founded.

I guess Drew never learned the "your box disguise has to be somewhere inconspicuous" thing way back in mgs2.

The tailing part reminds me so much of the movie "The Third Man".

During the tailing section where Drew has to start killing people and still be stealthy.

Oh Lawdy Lawd here we go.

So after rewatching this cutscene, I have a question: Do we know who Dr. Clark's assistant (Solid Snake's biologicial mom) was? Some unnamed Japanese woman? That can't be right. Every significant character in this series overlaps a million different ways with the others. It has to be someone that we know. Maybe Mei Ling's mom or something? OR is she chinese?

That guy in the hat that appears follows you through most of the mission and is following you following the resistance member. It's a weird easter egg.

Oh, I didn't finish this week's UPF. That's good to hear.

@danryckert The first DARPA Chief you run into in Metal Gear Solid 1, the one who died from FOXDIE, was Decoy Octopus (hence, "Laughing Octopus"). The actual DARPA chief Snake found later (getting eaten by maggots in the holding cell) was the real DARPA chief...a.k.a. Sigint....a.k.a. Donald Anderson.

Almost makes me curious to check if Sigint made any references/jokes to maggots in MGS3.

Watching that whole cutscene was so refreshing. I replayed MGS4 a bunch of times to get the BB emblem and haven't replayed it since, but now I'm remembering that there's a boatload of stuff that happened around the time of the LES project. We might even see EVA in MGSV!

The catharsis of MGS4 is something I don't see discussed often, but it's all over Drew's face during that cutscene. Seeing everything tie together in a pretty elegant fashion is so satisfying. I'll never understand why some people hate this game.

@phoenixlol: No, but I think Drew ment that he is all Liquid now. Everything that was Ocelot is gone(dead).

I'm sorry, did you say "elegant" to describe how MGS4 tries to tie a bow on everything?

I really love how they tie everything together in this episode. I'm looking forward to getting an episode a day this week!

Snake was dressed in that trench coat because it was a call back to Blade Runner and the gameplay is a callback to Snatcher/Policenauts. That motorcycle scene is some of the best gameplay I have ever played.

@danryckert The thing at the end of MGS2 where they mention the Patriots being dead over 100 years ago refers to the names of all the AI's they discovered. IE George Washington, Abe Lincoln etc.

Peacewalker Spoilers: Also a more recent retcon is that Big Boss (in peace walker) decided to stop following the Boss's will because she imagined a world where soldiers wouldn't be necessary rather than one where they aren't cared about.

@DanRyckert I think those early Bond movies are the best that've ever been made. You should watch them. They aren't remotely boring. Dr. No, Goldfinger, From Russia with Love ... seriously.

Don't understand why Drew seems to have such an aversion to leaning up against things, but glad he's finally figured out how to make the tiny mech thing go invisible.

I feel like the tailing section is so close to being a great sequence, but every time you play it you can see the scripts breaking right in front of you in away it never has before in Metal Gear.

They probably should have just dropped you in this section and forced you to find the hideout on your own (with hints along the way), at least it would have made for a cool exploration segment.

Drew certainly handled this better than I normally do either way.
