Even if the future is paved with Motherbase microtransactions and MGS pachinko machines, I'm confident future gamers will find some enjoyment in this franchise's core chapters. Drew is a testament to that. Despite poorly aging control shcemes and dated mechanics, no one has balanced overly dramatic soap opera style plots and whimsical humor in games like Kojima and friends.

God, during that montage of flashback audio in the corridor, they missed a golden chance to have the monkey pipe in with a "hyeeh haaah!"

I love that mashing hallway so much. I remember seeing Snake in agony as my arm was burning from mashing so much and having to push myself to continue on. Another beautiful notch on Kojima's fourth wall-breaking bedpost.

Honestly? Even 2:15 hours feels too little for what I remember the end to be.

The naked quadriplegic body of Big Boss was sad. The fact that Solidus was 'mistaken' or used as an acceptable substitute is even sadder. That might be the most fucked up thing in this series.

Whatever his intentions, Zero's legacy was the Patriots. He fucked up. Big Boss killed him as a mercy, because like he said, the hatred is gone - he misses his friend.

@danryckert Big Boss said, the whole effing thing was about finding Zero. Liquid Ocelot was motivation for Old Snake.

I don't think it's possible to 100% explain the previous games through the lens of MGS4. Kojima did not plan out the Patriots plot and plant seeds of it in MGS1.

Oh, also, since you did post videos featuring trailers and promo video, you should either do that for MGSV, or better yet, spend an hour reading from the MGS4 Database.

Well this was a fun feature! Definitely gonna need more Dan & Drew content in the future.

Another edit: Thanks again guys for like a year of this stuff, it was super entertaining and made me more critical of the archaic design stuff, yet more enamored with the whole crazy thing at the same time. I think I had the same trajectory as Dan where I have this childhood reverence for the first MGS, played 2 and 3 a bunch but only finished 4 once and having it all click into place far more definitively upon watching this. I am so pumped for Phantom Pain and this feature helped set me up for a perfect cathartic resolve on such a labyrinthine series. Unless Kojima trolls us all by throwing in some twists that pull the rug out from under 4's ending(s) completely.

I never got too frustrated with Drew's frustration in the earlier games but I feel like he owes it to himself to enjoy one of them at his leisure, figuring out the stealth as he goes because it is so satisfying to master and hugely influentual on basically every game with stealth mechanics. Third person cover too, in a weird way.

Anyway, Ground Zeroes is left and then we're in it together! Keep it up duders.
