Wow, this is bringing back so many memories. I had the official strategy guide which had interviews with Kojima and other key staff including the sound designers. My childhood dream was to work for Konami, and this was the most amazing book.

I hope Dan remembers more little details like calling Mei Ling over and over without saving.

One thing to keep in mind, Drew, and this is not a spoiler: Hideo never planned to do sequels for MGS. Each sequel was something he had to be talked into, and he said it would be the last one each time, which is part why the story and characters are all over the place. He intentionally subverts expectations and does things differently to get a reaction out of the people who "forced" him into making sequels. They all have confusing endings and loose ties. The big deal about MGS 4 was that it would be the fan-service one where Hideo wrapped up the series for real by explaining all the weird shit that went down in the previous ones and put everything together in a cohesive narrative. It's OK to play MGS1 through 3 and be all sorts of confused, because that's what it was like for us seeing them for the first time.

Yeah, it was only from MGS2 on that I used the 1st person view, and that was almost always to aim my gun.

In MGS1, it's pretty much worthless.

The gameplay isn't fluid, it's stopping like every 24 frames or so, that's so annoying! Probably because of the PS3 to PS1 emulation.

Having not played this in years, Snake and Campbell sound so much younger. Their voices aren't near as gruff as later on in the series.

I was so sad when I first booted up MGS4 and found that X/O were switched to the western layout.

I played some of this of game and I had forgotten a lot of the nonsense that's just in the beginning of the game.

That was fucking awesome guys. I'm now looking forward for Drew discovering the MGS3 theme, regardless on if you end up doing Snake Eater or Subsistence.

I really like what Dan Ryckert is doing on Giant Bomb. Wasn't too sure at first, now I'm sure.

OMG... I never thought i would see the day when Drew B(rowhaus?) Scanlen would turn from the guy who gave thumbs up at the end of the Persona 4 Endurance Runs, to sitting on the couch himself. If drew can be a full blown member of giantbomb, then any super human, world traveled, robot that can fly top secret planes can do it!!!

This was everything I hoped it would be.

The one thing I'll mention, on the main screen, there's a Briefing button that most people don't even know exists. In there is a ton of lengthy cutscenes setting up the whole backstory and plot of the game. In Drew's position, he might find it very helpful to see the setup.

CURRENTLY EXISTING TECHNOLOGY.

I'm so happy with this, guys. I'm with Dan in that Metal Gear is prooooobably my favorite series too. Having Drew play through it is wonderful for me as I can experience playing it for the first time vicariously. And Drew isn't super jaded about anything and seems up for whatever stupid shit comes his way - which there is no shortage of coming up in these games.

With re-done VO that is worse (Cyborg Ninja especially), and super anime cutscenes. Also, the first-person mode makes the game super easy.

Drew's not crazy. YOU'RE ALL THE CRAZY ONES!

I never thought we'd see the day where Metal Gear would be played on Giantbomb (outside of quicklooks); thank you, Dan.

Drew's early fumblings with the combat and controls really brought me back to when I first played it. This was my first Playstation game and my first time dealing with semi-complex controls (only ever played Nintendo games, and not much on PC). It does take a bit of getting used to.

This is great. Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 2 are my favorite games to watch someone's first time through. Dan is proving to be quite an apt guide, and I'm glad Drew is actually kind of into the game. I cannot wait for the next episode.
