I really hope MGS2 is as insane (in an interesting way) as folks say, because I lost my interest for this feature after episode somethingsomething and just skimmed through the rest.

This was terrific....but really the true madness starts with MGS2.

I am soooo looking forward to MGS2. This just gets crazier and crazier... Mr. President.

Also @drewbert, don't worry for getting really annoyed by the final two encounters, the end of this game gameplay-wise is pretty much garbage. I would rank the Liquid fist fight as hands down one the worst boss fight in the series (with Fatman and Crying Wolf).

Actually, right after you guys were done with the game, I decided to pick it back up and replay it. It took me 3h10 to beat it with 7 deaths. 5 of which were to this piece of crap of a boss (and once to the escape scene). You're right: this fight is just NOT FUN. It's poorly designed and does not play to the strengths of the game. It's a shame, because the setup is INCREDIBLE !

I still get pissed at myself for never catching on that Master Miller sounded exactly like Liquid. Anyways onwards to MGS2!!!

Speaking of Stun Grenades, they're also great for knocking out Meryl in the Psycho Mantis fight since Mantis detonates all grenades as soon as you throw them. All hail the Stun Grenade.

@drew, I had the same experience with the fist fight years ago. That fight is conceptually awesome, but executed very poorly.

This was awesome to watch live! I don't know if I had as much trouble with REX, but that's from a different time of my life and era of gaming. It was great to see your technique evolve! ... Mr. President.

Glad you guys are going to eventually continue MGS2. That game is bananas and long codecs.

Maaan, I have some bad memories of that Metal Gear Rex fight. I went in with only one ration. Ended up putting the game down for months after playing up to this point in a sitting or two, that was rough!

I died at least that many times VS metal gear rex. One of the most frustrating boss battles I've ever done.

I really hope you two go through some of the other Metal Gear Solid titles. This has been my favorite feature since the Persona 4 Endurance run.

That's one damn impressive satellite if it can see through the roof of a cave.

I had no idea this was going to be 3 hours... man, I'm glad I didn't try to stay awake to watch this live... (but don't get me wrong - super stoked to watch now!)

I could not stop laughing during the snowmobile scene. The dialogue is so cheesy. But then I laughed even harder at the post credits reveal. The story in this game seems like it could be totally awesome, but I feel it's constantly counteracted by being so corny.

That being said, I still look forward to seeing Drew play through the next game.

It got me to go out and get the Legacy Collection and start playing through 2 so I can watch from the other side of the table on the (hopefully) sequel to this feature!

Fuckin' Rex. What a son of a bitch that thing is. I definitely died at least as many times as Drew did on that thing way back when. If those goddamn missiles didn't always look like they tracked just loose enough such that you could maaaaaaybe avoid them at distance if you ran juuuuust right...

In retrospect, it's really odd that Otacon doesn't say something like "the missiles are long-range weapons, they're not made for tracking targets up close!" considering how codec convos will pretty much spell out whatever you need to do in any other given fight. Because as awful as those rockets are, trying to avoid the things is still more intuitive than getting CLOSE to the giant walking battle tank with 2 other weapons and feet that will one-hit turn you into paste.

I'm glad Drew ended up liking the game. There were points where it looked like he wasn't having much fun. Can't wait for Metal Gear Scanlon 2 next year.

I seriously cannot wait for Metal Gear Scanlon 2. Oh man, after Drew's reaction to "Mr. President," I can only imagine how he'll react to everything in MGS2. You know what I'm talking about specifically, the part where Raiden is running around naked and the Colonel is calling him and talking about scissors and stuff. So good. And that's a legit spoiler in there, if you haven't played MGS2. Mostly whited that out in case Drew is looking through here at the comments, or something. I don't know if he has been for these, just making sure. Want his experience to be as pure as possible.

Though, I went into MGS2 with most of the story already spoiled to me (I played it in 2007), and it didn't ruin it for me. That said, if I could have gone in knowing less than I did, that would have been better.
