I wonder how many episodes it will be before Drew realizes that wearing a Sneaking Suit during broad daylight in the desert may not be as effective as...I dunno, Desert Camo?

To me, the bonus of being able to always move at full speed makes the effectiveness of camo kinda pointless. I used the sneaking suit throughout the whole game and never really felt the need to use camo.

@drewbert You should really try some camouflage. The sneaking suit is only useful if you want to run up on guys, and you can sneak up behind guys by crouching and moving just below full speed anyways. Since you like tranqs, though, camouflage would be much more useful as it makes guys need to be much closer to see you and more likely to be suspicious rather than alerted.

Speaking of which, when guys become suspicious they check the place they spotted you, not current position, so if you can quickly relocate unnoticed they won't find you. I like to go prone, aim with my weapon then move the left stick to the side and click to roll away: high speed, low profile.

Also, you can totally pull guys out of towers/off of ledges, the guy just has to be close enough (a generous distance) and a Right Trigger prompt will show up. For towers you have to be right at the top of the ladder.

I somewhat wish you guys would post more than 2 a week.

At the current clip you're going at, you won't finish until late January

Same here, but I almost always played missions at night. If Drew keeps doing missions during the day, then maybe the camo could be best for him. Then he can get a tranquilizer sniper rifle and become a bad ass sniper!

But hopefully he figures out that night time is the best time for sneaky stuff.

They have been making a backlog of videos that they can post at that pace through the months to come so when they are all off work and such for the holidays the videos will still come out on schedule.

At least this is my understanding on how they are doing it based on them talking about it.

You should have the tapes playing a little more frequently thats where over 50 percent of the games story and character moments are.

Good episode! It really feels like Drew is taking to this game very well, and starting to appreciate the wonderful amount of options it has. It's somewhat overwhelming, but also exhilarating, once you realize just how much game this game is.

Also, Dan's idea for using the second screen app sounds really interesting, so I hope they give that a shot sometime in the future.

It'll be a while if Dan keeps telling Drew that camo doesn't matter.

It's so frustrating watching Dan tell him exactly the wrong thing about camo when asked and then watch the mission go south immediately because of it.

@danryckert Dan, you're saving money by returning to ACC but you're also missing out on volenteers when doing that I believe.

That fucking box slide into a bears' crotch was worth my premium subscription alone.

Also, like a crazy person, I listened to every tape while in the ACC because I really wanted to focus on the story they told. Sometimes I'd be doing menu stuff, but most of the time I was just sitting back and listening / reading subtitles. Couldn't imagine doing side-ops with them playing, as there's no way I'd be able to actually listen to them and peace the story together while running around doin' Boss stuff.

The second screen thing for Dan sounds like it'd be fun. Or terrible, not quite sure.

I was really surprised by how much further the guards can see you when you're using the sneaking suit. I'm glad I stuck to camo, much better for the way I play.

Drew should have a mini episode where he and Dan listen to cassettes. Lots of story in there.

Either that or just listen to it before recording and let them record their discussions/reactions to said tapes before starting playing, kind of like a briefing.

Didn't know there were cracks you could climb, and I'm at like 40-something % completion.

I did know that you kan press the melee button to pull guys off of platforms when you're on a ladder though, it's small intuitive things like that that really makes me like this game.

qt for truth. Also I would listen to more tapes in non story missions as I expect they are all cool. Would love longer episodes to....I think when money/time allows I am going to have to get this as wow it seems really fun. I really wish they would lower the price on ground zeros so I could see if I would find it as fun as I think I would.

Wouldn't mind having Brad and/or Jeff sit in on one or two of these; hopefully they'd be able to fill in some information gaps. Otherwise Drew will just continue playing Ryckert-style (and this doesn't actually seem to be the best fit for him). Maybe even just a 30 minute segment on a UPF. Then again, no idea how many they've already recorded...it might be too late to deprogram.

@drewbert you might want to play some of the other missions in Ground Zeroes on your own time (since you're not allowed to play MGSV off camera). The mechanics are slightly different (and options more limited) but you could use it to get a handle on the hold up / interrogate / choke / CQC slam mechanics. I found familiarity with how those work to be very portable to MGSV. Tranq'ing everybody is going to be tough going because of limited ammo / suppressors (though you *could* supply drop); if you're going for "sneaking" style then knowing how to deal with guys up close is valuable. "Hold up" in particular.

Regarding fultoning, I'm not too far into the game yet but eventually you unlock a way to recruit members which seems to give you better than the average found in the field, and fultoning everyone you meet is not really worth it.

tl;dr Dan should tell Drew important stuff that the game kind of glosses over, such as "hey you can go do a side-op to get a translator" and not play-like-me stuff like "camo? I wore the sneaking suit the whole game". But...after MG Scanlon 4, I'm not really expecting different, and still am enjoying this series immensely!

Only Time Will Tell - secretly the best helicopter music.

I get and agree with why they're doing daytime missions, a lot more pleasing to look at for the audience, but try desert fox and some of the other camos.

The biggest benefit of the stealth suit is the quieted footsteps, which is vastly more important than camo, as you can sneak up and take out guys much quicker. Actual camo is hardly relevant unless you're really bad at pattern recognition.

Oh, and this was a playthrough without reflex, too, since I found it way too generous in Ground Zeroes. It's not that I'm some tactical genius (Maybe a tactical okayius?) it's that the guards are all very predictable.

If you're CQC slamming everyone into the ground, that's not much of a benefit.

Honestly, constantly apologizing for being in menus is way more annoying than the part where we actually watch him spend time in menus.

Oh wow didn't think of that; good idea! Brad especially is clearly head over heals for MGS V so it'll be nice to have some of the other staff sit in as well. In all fairness there's so many different mechanics in the game that it's fine that Dan gets some of it wrong (I didn't know about the quick travel myself till about 10 hours in). Thus having some variety in the staff would ensure Drew gets the benefit of their shared knowledge.

Although having said that, one of the best bits of metal gear is discovering these things for yourself so perhaps we should make it more like Metal Gear Scanlon 1 with people only piping in when Drew needs some hint rather than dictating how he plays?

I would have to go with ride of the Valkyries for music for the helicopter myself. (assuming that is in the game). As well I like the idea of having the ipad and the two people. Dan could pretend to be miller. It would likely lead to some hilarious problems but that would make for incredibly good viewing.

I also vote for longer episodes and more often...though I understand the drawing out to get people to extend premium memberships ... tis a business. ((and the stealth putting up as non premium for a bit to show others what missing convince them to shell out)).

One of the things that I've found fascinating about the discussions about MGSV is just how varied each person's experience with the game has been. On the Bombcast it was pretty clear that no one played the game the same way at all, but the systems were easily deep and robust enough to support such variation.

It would be great if Dan stopped steering Drew towards how he played the game (it would also be great if he didn't answer questions with things that are flat out wrong), but baring that, having Brad or Jeff sit in on one would good.

I realize this is ridiculous statement, but I didn't find out about "Return to ACC" until around mission 40, and I'm glad for it. The second I found out about it, I feel like it broke some of the game's hold over me because of how attached to the helicopter I'd become. Having to plan out how to exfiltrate, time the helicopter landings, blow up a radar station to get your chopper in closer and hold off the enemy in a gunfight while Pequod is tearing the enemy apart with rocket pods while blaring ridiculous 80's rock so you can climb in, that stuff accounts for some of my favorite moments.

While i was initially excited at the idea of return to ACC, it definitely broke the spell of the game, because i found myself *never* calling in the chopper after that, for any reason, and then even resenting the "long and tedious" rides to the landing point.

I played this game for like 80 hours before I learned you can toss stuff further if you hold in RT.

Also just learned you can shoot down power lines, which is ridiculous, and I'm sure is useful for some kind of something. I'm almost certain you can electrocute people if you get the timing right.

You need some translators asap, and you can pull people down from those towers. I like seeing the different play style as I go out of my way to not kill anyone.

In this mission I climbed up the crack in the left mountain avoiding all enemies and extracted the prisoner super sneaky.
Edit:(Nice, you found that crack in the wall too.

We're on a Metal Gear video and the weirdest thing going on isn't the story, it's the intro about Dan and the things he drinks in the morning. Sometimes it amazes me how strong his stomach must be.

Someone needs to stop listening to everyone saying the sneaking suit is the best thing in the world. YOU ARE BASICALLY INVISIBLE IF YOU USE CAMO CORRECTLY correctly. The sneaking suit is great and has it's place, but wow proper use of camo totally outweighs this whole "just use the sneaking suit always" thing. Seriously you may as well have constant invisibility if you use the camo correctly, and makes sneak walking super unnecessary.

@danryckert & @drewbert check out Dark City with Keanu Reeves and Kiefer Sutherland.

It's about a man wanted for murder who are followed by a group of "Strangers". Very Matrix-like.

PS; Dan, your geography sucks - Syria is right by Iraq, and coastline to the Mediterranean ocean. Eqypt is north-eastern Africa, and Saudi-Arabia is part of the Arabian Peninsula (which you are right, is a peninsula), which is part of the Middle-East.
To your defense; Egypt is often considered a part of the Middle-East ;)
