People really listen to tapes while doing ops? I wouldn't be able to retain any of the information at all.

I would be listening to podcasts otherwise. There are moments when shit pops off and I realize I didn't retain the last few mins of info but mostly I get it.

I know a lot of people play games while listening to podcasts and I feel like MGSV acknowledge this in game (and also eliminates the Codec) which is brilliant.

I can listen to podcasts because i don't mind missing stuff, but when it comes to plot i want to hear everything lol. I like it being optional, but i personally enjoyed codecs much better as it was more interesting while seeing facial expressions etc.

@oursin_360: Honestly I can't think of more than maybe once or twice in the entire series when seeing anyone during a Codec call mattered to me but to each their own.

This was a huge improvement.

Truth or Consequences N.M. is a cool movie Kiefer Sutherland directed and was in. It's like Dumb & Dumber crossed with Reservoir Dogs.

@drewbert@danryckert maybe avoid political commentary when you've got a chance to alienate your audience. I know we're all pretty used to hearing ignorant stuff from Dan, but 'All Russians are bad again' is getting close to a line

Except that wasn't what he said. The government and the country is...individual Russians even in Russia (and certainly out of it) may very well not be. I hope we can all agree though that Putin is a butt and the invasion of Ukraine was uncalled for.

Russia as a state actor is no worse than America, with its barely discriminate law flouting drone campaign killing hundreds of innocent civilians across Pakistan and Yemen, or historically sponsoring of right wing paramilitary death squads in operation Condor which Drew mentioned last episode. Hearing Dan say that America's always the good guys and Russia are bad guys is at the very least annoyingly ignorant, if not offensive.

Agreed. Have to take time to look in the national mirror.

For the purposes of their discussion, I think they just meant it was good for fiction. Rocky IV, The Hunt for Red October.. etc.

Another camo advocate piping in here with some tips for @drewbert & @danryckert on stealthin' and sleuthin' in 2015's Mega Guard Sneakum V:

  • Ditch the sneaking suits. The minor benefit they provide (quieter footsteps) will literally never help Drew if he is being seen before he can even get near the enemies. Use the camo index in your head to decide which camo is best for the environment you're in.
  • You can crouch walk at full speed up to about 6-8 metres near an unaware enemy. Once you get to that range you need to slow it down in order to get close enough to make your next move.
  • Doing anything on your belly is dead silent, including the dive. This means you can crawl at full speed right up to an enemy's ankles and they won't notice you.
  • Sneaking at night is almost like easy mode and will stop enemies from noticing you from ~60m away when you're crouched. At night you can crawl about 15m in front of an enemy that is facing you providing you are wearing the right camo. Crawling at night is like super easy mode+ extreme edition dash ver. for matching service and it will make you feel like a proper spy!

Good luck with the series, guys! I can't wait for Drew to unlock some of the more fun items and experiment some more. The game really lets you go nuts with the options you have and it's a ton of fun.

Disagree entirely on this. It's the only suit you need. Can crouch at full speed, and don't have to fuss with other camo. Should also be doing all missions at night anyways. There's no reason not to.

@cannongoose: He should keep camo suits on the table as an option if he's caught a lot, but the sneaking suits are perfectly acceptable if you're good about hiding when guards turn suspicious. I started with camos and scarf, but ended up in a sneaking suit game cause I thought it looked cooler with Snake's beat up appearance in this game.

Re: Movie talk. Kiefer Sutherland was in Young Guns, two movies that were pretty badass for their time.

As someone who played through the game stealthy and non-lethal almost exclusively (I've indulged in the ol' ultraviolence much more post-completion), I'm pretty confident saying that you really don't.

There are plenty of reasons, it's more challenging, the game looks better in the day 90% of the time, and doing them Asap makes the missions feel way less monotonous as you get different guard counts/locations/equipment/weather etc. I played the first 20 or so hours night only until i got bored and found that using camo was super effective at day and night. I'm not going to tell anybody how to play the game, but for me it made the game way more interesting. Also at a point the night loses 90% of it's effectiveness when everyone has night vision. Camo just had way more benefit than the sneaking suit, you can always get reflex mode to choke them out anyway.

I would just suggest, try it out for a while and see how different the game feels than doing doing missions at night over and over with the sneaking suit. Camo = Dope and all you need is Desert/Forest/ and possibly Rain/water camo.

I was really hoping they'd be releasing these on a regular schedule of 3 a week. I find myself checking the site every day to see if the next one is out yet.

I'll point out just in case it hasn't been that it's safe to "return to ACC" at literally any point while in free roam regardless of anything you've done since a checkpoint. The moment you do any pending fultons will be auto-recieved the moment you hit the button.

Dan is teaching him bad technique. The throw is the weakest. Meaning they wake the fastest from it.

Throw, choke out, punch combo. Weakest to strongest.

Tip- If you want to be stealth in the daytime use camo. The sneaking suit can be spotted from up to 70 meters away whereas you can crawl right up to guards if you have the right camo pattern

Ok, I tried. I've been playing this and thought it would be cool to watch some of this as supplemental experience. Watching someone play with unnecessary constant 'help'/suggestions from two other people is kind of annoying(to me). I mean, they've done this so many times now, so that's how Drew must like it...but it would take some of the fun out for me.

The sneaking outfit is not very suitable for daylight. Too bad Dan is too stupid too realize that, and thereby drags Drew into high alert-o-mania....

Well, sledding into a bear is certainly one thing that happened. I personally listen to the tapes when in the helicopter otherwise I couldn't concentrate at all on what I'm doing.
