"I'm not sure my sleepy sniper rifle is all that useful because its loud"

Yes drew it does have limited uses which is why you should buy one that has a silencer.

It still hurts watching drew put soldiers on alert because of the riot smg. If only he knew...

Also Dan getting angry because other people like different things than him is pretty childish!

So Dan's clothing talk reminded me of this thing I read the other day:

In “Buttoned Up: Clothing, Conformity, and White-Collar Masculinity,” the sociologist Erynn Masi de Casanova explores some of the same ideas from the perspective of men whose wives or girlfriends choose their wardrobes. The book is based on interviews with a diverse group of around seventy white-collar men in New York, San Francisco, and Cincinnati. These guys, who have never heard of “#menswear,” try not to think too much about what they wear. Still, Masi de Casanova argues, that’s a meaningful decision: through choosing not to care about fashion, these men are exercising “the privilege of hegemonic masculinity”—they’re saying, in effect, that it doesn’t matter what they look like, and implying that they’ve arrived at their positions in life through hard work, rather than because of their social class. Dressing like a schlub, in other words, can be a form or expression of power.

Correspondingly, Masi de Casanova finds that the gay and men of color in her sample are more comfortable than the straight white men when it comes to talking and thinking about clothes and fashion (perhaps, she suggests, because they’re already judged by how they look). They’re also more comfortable using the word “fashion”—straight white men prefer the more masculine “style”—and are more willing to refer to themselves as “metrosexual.” (The fact that people still say “metrosexual” may be the biggest surprise in “Buttoned Up.”) Hegemonically masculine men, meanwhile, don’t look kindly upon those who relinquish the privilege of unfashionableness: come into work wearing a too-cool shirt, and your unhip coworkers will shame you.

Credit JOSHUA ROTHMAN

I follow fashion to some degree, and I gotta say there's a lot of pretentious and classist nonsense, but everybody wears clothes and even the choice to deliberately not be stylish is still a choice. And the sort of choice that is intended towards fitting in with a certain social group or embodying a certain identity. By virtue of his identity, Dan can claim to be the default "normal guy", but not everyone has that choice.

On the subject of silenced weapons:

I know Drew hates doing side missions, but one especially beneficial one that should have opened up by now is "Extract the Legendary Gunsmith." I'm sure Dan knows that this unlocks weapon customization. What he may have forgotten is that one of the customizations for the sniper rifle Drew is using is a silencer.

Also:

Since Drew's bond with Quiet is quite high now, he should have unlocked several upgrades to her rifle - one of which is the tranq. rifle "Guilty Butterfly" (that can also be silenced, FYI.) As an aside, if she had that rifle when he did the White Mamba mission, she would have tranq'ed some of the kids for him.

Dan knowing that the customization allows for surpressing a sniper rifle would mean he actually used a sniper which is about as likely as cookie monster taking the democratic ticket for pres. in 2016. At this point I don't think they will do the legendary gunsmith even though he is a real game changer, hope Jason (who mentioned how important the gunsmith is) will be more vocal about how important he is soon. Although it appears to me that Drew is racing through the story to finish before GOTY deliberations so I understand his desire not to do side content, but to me the gunsmith stuff should have been a mandatory mission at some point in the story.

Apart from the game loading slightly faster becouse it doesnt have to do online checks that doesnt improve anything in the game. The dreaded 2min of tutorial messages would still have fired for them.

I sure hope that Drew finishes before GOTY discussions, but I don't think he's gonna make it. Will he leave the room or just hear the ending from others?

As far as I'm concerned, the ending should take this game out of the GOTY discussions.

Edit: I don't think that counts as a spoiler. It just didn't pay off the way I wanted it to.

What did Jason say when Drew tried to CQC the kids? Actually, while we're at it, I can hardly ever hear what Jason is saying - perhaps the recorded mix is different from what the guys are hearing.

Can we get a fund set up to protect Drew's base with insurance for the length he needs to beat the game to help him avoid the BS?

The FOB stuff is fun to play with, but barely influences the rest of the game. It's just an easy way to generate heroism.

Dan in this video claiming that "buying stuff to look cool is dumb".

Dan on UPF: "I love brands, brands are cool!"

Dan's T-shirt 99% of the time: something obviously branded: movies or bands, which he wears to.... look cool! I'm quite sure there are cheaper T-shirts that don't have bands or movies on them...

But when DAN wears things to look cool, it's because of what they represent. When anyone else does it, it's because they are dumb. That must make sense to at least one person in the world, but probably only to that one person.

And yes people, even Dan, are entitled to their opinions. But if an opinion is "other people's opinions are wrong if I dont like them!" you deserve to be mocked for your opinion. No tolerance for intolerance.

Dan's fashion rant is hilarious in its lack of self-awareness. There's nothing "vain" about feeling uncomfortable wearing schlubby, ill-fitting clothes all the time. Not a damn one of Dan's pants or shirts actually fits him right. He dresses like a child. His entire personality and value system goes along with that image, so it only makes sense that he'd dress that way. He should dress that way, because that's who he is.

Since I have a different personality and values, I wouldn't be comfortable in his clothes the same way he wouldn't be comfortable in a suit jacket and dress shoes even if he got them for free. Money literally has nothing to do with it for the vast majority of people. It's about wearing clothes that match your internal image of yourself and represent who you are as a person. You probably wouldn't be comfortable wearing cowboy boots, a ten-gallon hat, and an NRA shirt if you're a progressive liberal who enjoys live theater and prog rock, for example. Dan is literally doing the same thing as everyone else on the planet by choosing to dress how he does...

I wish they wouldn't just immediately groan and try to back out every time FOB stuff comes up. Give it a try. You have no good reason to judge it before you've tried it. In my experience it's really not that bad.

To claim to not care about how you dress is to observe how society attires itself and believe you are free from those forces. But by acting against those forces you are still letting them influence how you dress. That's all fashion is: self-expression (read: art) through one's clothes and that Dan thinks he doesn't partake even while explaining himself through describing his clothes means he's a fool.

We are all servants to fashion.

TL;DR: The motherfucking Cerulean Monologue!

When at work I wear functional, durable clothing. Outside work I wear good looking, fitting clothes that make me look good making me feel confident and and making me look appealing to other people, thus leading me to have sex with fun cool people and me enjoying my life a lot.

Man, Dan just have like no real introspective insight.

I hate to break it to you, Dan everyone is vain. You are vain and you have made a choice on fashion as well. The whole jean and band t-shirt thing is a 'fashion' and whether consciously or not, you have chosen to cultivate that fashion as something that represent your personality. If you truly only care about practicality, you should just wear a big grey sack.

Honestly, Dan just seems like really against any form of self improvement that's not exercise.

"Fashion", as Dan refers to it, is literally creative people making something they love for the purpose of display. The fact that it's displayed on a person, rather than in a theatre, on a wall, or played by a person does absolutely nothing to change the fact that it's in every way as legitimate of an art form as painting, sculpture or film.
