@turboman: Yeah I had no assault rifle researched except the STN one and no rocket launchers. I ended up beating it through the quick time events and placing C4 and leading the skulls over it.

@guac: I did this mission 15 times running around killing all of the guys and then wondering why I kept dying. I had to look it up and it still took me an extra 20 tries. I hate this mission so damn much.

Outland is damn good space cop stuff. Space Sheriff, space narcotics, space mafia, mining colony, action, intrigue, death by decompression...it was ahead of it's time.

If you weren't developing any weapon weaponry before this mission, you were afterward. Because there are missions after this that are way more demanding.

But I won't deny that this game made me angry. The strategy to beating bosses in this game is the same as Peace Walker; develop better weapons and equipment.

Also Drew is going to have to teach Eli his second lesson if he wants to finish the game.

It seems like you could clear this mission by putting a lot of decoys and then putting mines around the decoys. Not sure if that would work or not. But think I may try it that way. This will definitely be a hard mission though it seems.

I fucking hated this part of the game until I realized I could climb on top of the hangar roof. Trivializes the whole thing, but I can't imagine having enough patience to do it any other way.

I had the biggest rocket at that time by this point, so I just equip that plus an assault rifle and was enough to fight them head on. I think with no misses it is possible to do it with rockets only without supply drop.

Drew weren't really that far off with the basic rockets although probably needs a few supply drop.

Kind of makes me want to jump back in after all the new online only research to see how much of a difference they really make.

Also I think the next mission is worse in some respect, and Drew should really keep the research projects going for the later parts of the game.

@soimadeanaccount: I think mission 30 is one of the best in the game. Really puts people's sneaking skills to the test. The thing that made it difficult for me was the helicopter. But it was definitely among the most (if not the most) intense sneaking missions in the game.

I also just realized Drew made it through this mission without developing anything. Quiet, Pequod and artillery strikes are not going to be able to get him out of trouble for mission 31. That's gotta me all him. And both mission 31 and 45 have things that can one-shot you, so that'll be fun for him.

Hail MGR, Grom, Quiet, A few supply drops. This mission wasn't too bad, only took a couple tries, though I can completely understand it being a bitch for some people's playstyle.

Yeah, this mission was annoying. I ended up planting a bunch of C4 in one spot then luring them to the spot to take them out. Took a few supply drops, but it worked out pretty well for me.

What a mission...
I was real worried when they came in to this without Quiet. I mostly set C4 traps and ran diversion so she could pick them off. It sure took a long time to realize the rules of the fight, though. "Finishing" the Skulls shouldn't feel easy, but this fight didn't mesh with how I was playing everything up to it, and it wasn't super satisfying.
Looking back, it seems like the intended method of taking them out is probably to do the CQC counters.

At this mission I developed some gear for, and then used, D-Walker for the first time (after first dying a bunch of times). Had I upgraded its ammo capacity for its chain gun it would probably have been even easier and I wouldn't have needed to to call in resupplies of it. Still, it chews through the Skulls health and armor real quickly.

Being away from it for so long Drew is really out of the loop with what he can do, and like Dan himself said, he's no help. At least he was better this episode about not phoning it in, and distracting Drew from what was going on in the game.

20 minutes into the video here, and I will be shocked if Drew finishes this without any tips from Jason (Dan seems genuinely useless when it comes to MGSV). I was one of those yahoos who played through MGSV without developing any lethal weapons or equipment because why would you when you just want to fulton everyone? Then this mission appears with no warning and it's like running straight into a brick wall. After an hour or so of banging my head against it because I've never actually fought the Skulls before, I begged the Internet for help. D-Walker was the agreed upon salvation. He tore through those fuckers in 5 minutes.

Fuck this mission.

@surfincoffin: Doing the CQC counters is really satisfying, because you just jam their machete into their skulls.

It also mirrors the "right" way to beat The Boss in MGS3; with CQC counters, not sniping. Both fights are more fun when you learn how to CQC counter.

The Skulls' field of vision and sight range is incredibly poor. I literally just ran around one of the square buildings over and over like the Three Stooges and kept shooting them in the back of the head.

The skulls turn in to paper mashe with sniper bullets and other armor piercing ammo but yeah, I spent an hour dying before I realized that.

Drew would be completely justified in hating that mission (I certainly loathe it myself), its the worst one in the entire game. Its a terribly terribly designed boss fight that in no way takes advantage of the games strengths and instead hinders largely on its weakness'. The best strategy I found was to literally just spam whatever high powered weapon you happen to have (armor piecing rifle is best though) because that's all it is is a fight against 4 annoying damage sponges with bullshit cheap attacks you have you constantly run from.

Theirs no strategy or tactics or smart thinking, it literally just comes down to what's the laziest fastest way I can deal with these guys. Why they felt the need to make it that way I've no idea especially with the series having so many great boss fights in the past.

I wound up discovering that the mortar cannons kill a Skull in two or three shots alongside their A.I. struggling with vertical movement. It's been a while since I played so I might be misremembering the number of shots it took.

The previous mission was one of my favorites. It's a pretty heavy drop-off going from a stealthy mansion intrusion to bullet-sponge Skull fight.

I had the complete opposite reaction. I thought it was fast paced and exciting. I honestly don't get what's so difficult about it. Simply call in an assault rifle and LMG/rockets and go to town. The Skull's attacks are easy to learn and predict. There is definitely a skill to dodging attacks and countering the skulls, and that can definitely be a change gameplay change that many are not used to. However, that's true for basically every boss fight in Metal Gear. You're always having to change your tactics for specific points in the plot.

I'm somewhat flabbergasted that the a vocal portion of the internet dislikes this mission to such an extreme. You have a large arsenal of weapons to pick from, unlimited ammo through supply drops, buddies like Quiet or D-walker helping you out, etc. The tools are there, you simply need to make use of them. Honestly, you just need to be shooting better if you're having so much trouble. Mission 45 is actually a mission that is cheap bullshit, this is not.
