So If you die, the clock keeps ticking, its real time, not game time (not sure what "game time" Dan was referring to even means, everything is real clock time).

The Sahalanthropus boss fights are super fun - good episode.

*edit* - it seems the trick to making this boss fight even easier is to not upgrade Pequod so he won't draw fire as quick, and he'll be able to just hang back and use his machineguns forever. I'd guess Pequod did 50% of the damage in this winning fight...

T-minus 4 minutes until Dan gives Drew some intense misinformation (the development does continue as far as I remember).

Man I miss when weapons only took 18 minutes to develop, not 10 days.

They'd be able to have a "sleepy silenced sniper" really early if only they did those Legendary Gunsmith sideops. (Oh god his offline GMP is in the red, oh no).

"I have no idea what's happening". Yeah, I really wish there was just some other way that this game could have fleshed out the story to make it more clear. Like audio logs or something, I dunno. Oh well. Edit: They address this MGSV - It's All In The Tapes.

Drew has amazing luck with Sahelanthropus though.

I love the explanation for how the Metal Gear can be named after an anthropological discovery that didn't happen until years after the setting of the game

Was it really that bad? I gave up on this series after I think the first or second episode after I saw how they were going about playing it. Seeing that they completely ignore the upgrade system, side ops and the audio logs. I mean that's a huge part of the game.

Also I had just played it all the way through and had no desire to see what I had just done played again.

@comradesolar: well the name is broken down as follows: Sahel- is from the area in Africa and -anthropous is "human". So it's not that crazy that the base naming scheme could apply for both the fossil and the bipedal metal gear made in Africa.

I really loved all of the Metal Gear Scanlon's, However Metal Gear Solid V is so much not a Drew game. MGSV has a bunch of information in the tapes that I think they only listed to about 2-3 throughout the entire First Chapter, Along with doing the Side ops. Its not Drew's bag to do open world games and stuff like that which is fine, its just that its saddening to see so much of what content is actually in here to just get passed by, because if you critical path this game it doesn't really have that much content. Especially if you dont do the second chapter.

Just reading through a wiki works too, but i'd rather just listen to all the tapes and experience the side ops instead of just reading them. The open gameplay was really the best part of this game.

This was a fun episode. I knew Drew wasn't gonna be happy about Chapter 2, but man, maybe they should just watch the rest on Youtube or something. He's so done with this game!

So this is the last MGScanlon V. I'm conflicted, as I know Drew wouldn't enjoy the rest of the game because of the style/format/etc issues, but for me it was where the game shined because of the challenges forced me to play the game a different way, which was totally and completely fun, and showed me how multifaceted MGSV is. The story parts being parceled out randomly between missions is obviously due to the budget / time / Konami imploding around Kojima constraints, so for me that's forgiveable. I'm mostly glad this game exists at all with the state of Konami.

That said, I'm glad they saw it through this far. What a season.

@deimosreign: No actually, this is one of the best episodes to be honest. Enough story and Drew does a really good job with Sahelanthropus given the stuff he has.

You don't have to do any of the hard mode missions to unlock the rest of the actual missions. There is some major story points still. You do have to do a few side quests between some of the missions until you get called to come back. Some main missions are also put under side missions because reasons that need to be done.

Also that was some good work by Drew I had trouble on that fight.

Poor Drew. I know he's not the kind of guy to dig into the tapes and all that so he wouldn't fully get the story, but Dan can't even explain it to him even though he says he's listened to all the tapes.

So the deal with Psycho Mantis

is his soft mushy tele-brain is overcome by another being's strong feelings of revenge. The Man on Fire controls him for a while and then Eli gets control when he stows away on the Helicopter. There's more if you listen to the tapes.

@shiro2809: Unfortunately, the only way to see those cutscenes is through a new save, because they trigger outside of the main missions.

Chapter 2 probably has all the best cutscenes in the game, but admittedly some of the worst missions. It'll be a shame if they don't see it through to the end though, the final stretch is a real showcase of kojima's genius and depressing exhibit of konami's creative sabotage.

Man, missions 43 & 45.

How does them not listening to the audio logs effect this video series at all. It would be boring.

You can understand quite a lot without the tapes. As in, the main story. A lot of the mystery is explained in the second chapter and tapes, and I thought it was fine but shouldn't have been required. Should have been done in cutscenes.

I love the second chapter so much, and all that it reveals.

@drewbert I guarantee you do not have to play the missions in brackets like [SUBSISTENCE] and [EXTREME], they are useless filler missions, the other main missions are new and important including also the side ops that appear in yellow. Chapter 2 is basically a poorly designed epilogue.

I vote this really be the end and the rest just be Youtube videos and discussion between Dan, Drew, and Jason.
It's absolutely clear that Drew's not going to get anymore out of this, and at this point it's going to be a chore, and time for more story to be forgotten on his and even Dan's end.

I would like him to know about what he missed but making him replay the missions here are just going to piss him off and likely frustrate some watching even moreso than usual.

I recently finished chapter 2 and can say that you definitely do not have to do any of the extreme or subsistence missions. Certain story missions are unlocked by listening to all the yellow marked tapes however, and completing the yellow marked side-ops.

You don't have to replay them, though, unless you're talking about doing sideop after cut and paste sideop. I managed to avoid the remixed missions until after the final and last major story beat.

I guess this isn't too much of a spoiler cuz maybe Drew will never listen to the tapes but technically Drew doesn't have the Zero tapes yet so i would say those are major spoilers from Dan.

Here's how this maybe should have gone down:

#1: Have drew play all of the side ops. Play them as if they were main missions. Not that hard of a mental stretch.

#2: As soon as he touches down for the side op, start playing tapes. They listen to tapes and talk about the story instead of talking about wrestling.

#3: Dan doesn't spoil all of Chapter 2

Watching Drew get frustrated trying to force this game to play like Halo is not fun to watch anymore. Such a sad ending to this series.
