I tried watching the Austin trilogy again as a 39 year old. Going to go out on a limb and say... they haven't aged very well for me.

I'm impressed that they found what is evidently a turn-based Pac-Man game.

(My apologies to the programmers if the game just wasn't being run at the right speed.)

I only started this, so I don’t know if he talks about his 8bitdo M30 controller, but by chance has anyone else used this? I know Jeff has said nice things in the past about using it for retro games. I’m thinking of buying the Bluetooth version mainly to use on my Switch (fighting games, retro games, NeoGeo games).

I liked the movies quite a bit and all, and I miss the 90s as much as the next 30-something nostalgia junkie, but holy fuck, did that decade end on an annoying note thanks to Austin Powers (among other things). That's why we all wore JNCOs... readymade tents to hide in when somebody walked up with a pinkie held to the corner of their mouths.

How is there anyone at any age who cares about seeing a cigarette butt on the ground outside of being mad at litter/fire hazards?

I don't have that particular controller but I use an 8bitdo controller (the SNES style pad with the two analogue sticks) on my Switch regularly. The sticks aren't the best, especially compared to the Pro Controller's, but the d-pad is night and day more useable.

Ben should sit out for a couple of these.

Shoutout to the underepresented Ghostbusters game. That game only has like 2 pages of text for immersion leading into a fully featured Ghostbusters simulation game with graphics, shooting and all the hot stuff :)

What is the best modern version of Quix?

@garwalk: Saw that game and immediately looked it up to check if that's what it was. Bought the DVD and am actually planning on watching it for the first time this weekend, weird to see it come up like this.

I just can't hear the Gameboy sound chip without thinking of just how wild the music gets in Metroid 2.

@dave_tacitus: That’s what I keep hearing. I’d be buying the M30 for the rolling d-pad and the 6 face buttons. From what I read, everyone thinks the d-pad on the M30 is great (if they like that rolling style), and Jeff keeps using this $30 Bluetooth controller when playing MiSTer & retro games, so I gotta think he likes it too. If he didn’t like it, or thought there was Bluetooth lag, I’m sure he’d get a different controller.

Trying out Game Genie codes in UN Squadron is basically what we did at sleepovers in the 90s.

So is Johnny V going to arrest Jeff at E3 for playing all these Nintendo Game Boy ROMs on air?

That Gekisha Boy game was really cool, had not seen that before. I really like the bizarre art style married with the unique gameplay. Jeff's "Pokemon Snap but a platformer" description was pretty apt.

Doubt he'll even be on, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Watching this has made me realize that "Chocolate Rain" is just the UN Squadron menu music.

You know I always thought it was weird that the UN had this flaming horse logo...15 years later I realized UN Squadron was an anime game someone company did a translation hack on and it was actually about a PMC

I might not be able to ask this but where does Jeff get that gigantic dump of roms from? I know they can't all be his. There are so many though and sop many are obscure.

I think it's funny that Jeff and Ben were making jokes about how Master of Darkness "reminds them of some game, they just can't quite remember what" referring to Castlevania, since the first game that came to mind for me was actually the Dr. Jekyll NES game that makes no damn sense. Your walk cycle looks eerily similar and one of the first weapons you get is a cane; though the one in MoD seems to be a good deal more effective.

Also, I'm posting before getting to any Austin Powers, but hoo-boy, that game looks very "good". I think I may have had that at one point. I got a bunch of original, color and Advance Game Boy games from a garage sale when I was like, twelve and there were so many, that as a kid I'd play one til I decided it was trash and move on. The Metroids and Golden Suns of the collection stayed on, while the That's So Ravens and possibly Austin Powers got put into a closet and forgotten. God, that's probably somewhere in my room right now... Hell if I'm ever gonna find it.
