Real whiplash on that fall trap. "oh, get to move down a level for free" to "ahhhhhhhhh how do i get out of here". Good run though, I believe in you adventurer!!!
Also I love DJ Vinny on these videos, adds a very fun element with the music choices.
Alright, some forward momentum.
It's hard to play a gig in this town, and keep a straight face
Guys, this series is so good! 👏

I love this so much
Just some general information tips:
Dungeon diving isn't that great of a tactic early on because if you don't collect enough exp/items to stay ahead of the power curve, the game will absolutely wreck you. Some other roguelikes make it a more viable strategy by factoring the player's level into the monster generation process, but I'm pretty sure this game only uses dungeon level as the spawn criteria. Later on when the player can't keep up with the dangerous monster spawns, diving as soon as they reach the stairs becomes invaluable, though.
On maps with no clear routes to the stairs, secret doors will only be generated in rooms. You don't need to worry about searching hallways!
lol i never want this nonsense to end
H O P E
One of the first things you learn not to do in roguelikes is.. don't hold down a direction.
Ben, unexplored dungeon is a resource not a hazard. Going down early makes you weaker and weaker until you're... a really weak rogue-person.
Just pressed play. Let me look at the length and make a prediction:
Prediction: Ben will say hello to a Centaur and it will throw him through time.
Oh wow he killed 2! I did not think you could do that at like, Apprentice lvl with the mace.
Vinny should try Nethack.

Not a bad run. Ben might do it after all.
Such an awesome new series, loving the Ben/Vinny combo!
The eulogy at the end was fucking hilarious

"you feel as if somebody is watching over you" is apparently aremove curse scroll.
does audio cut out for anyone else after 7:17? watching html5 in hd, seems fine on high though
Good tips here. Ben will never make any meaningful progress avoiding fights early on. Part of the reason he did so well in Part 0, was that he killed everything before moving on.
Having issues with every ep of this series randomly cutting to the Next Up screen. Any thoughts on the problem?
similarly. the scroll that did not give a message is a hold monster scroll
https://www.portwood.co.uk/rogue.htm is a good resource with hints on playing. For instance, "It is best to hold onto potions until your experience is 320 (experience level 7) and you start a new level of the dungeon. Experience level 8 is a key level - you recover twice as fast as level 7. You will find that this is close to level 11 of the dungeon (Troll country)."
You did it
OMG, Ben has to stop holding down the movement buttons. One step at a time, dude! It has already bitten you in the butt and it will again. Everytime the little smiley face races across the screen I tense up.
@citizencoffeecake: I've been saying this since preschool.
Wow, the secret door search mechanic seems extremely annoying
He won the thing right
@nawaba: Same issue for me.
Dungeon crawlers of this era had a real hard-on for hidden, unmarked passageways. See also: having to bomb unmarked walls in Zelda 1 to progress in dungeons. I don’t like it either, it’s the worst part of old dungeon crawlers, and I hate that it made its way into stuff like Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. Just kidding, the actual worst part of old dungeon crawlers is that you have to do hours of trial and error until you deduce that messages like “you feel like someone is watching over you” on a random scroll actually means it removed curses from your equipped items.
Also Ben only has to search in the rooms (orange boxes), as there are never hidden doors in the dark hallways between rooms. Well, the “hidden” tile is always a door between an orange room and a dark hallway, so Ben should only be searching in a hallway if the hallway leads to a suspicious dead-end. In this video, Ben just needed to search the orange rooms more instead of wandering and fighting auto spawn monsters.
Me as well.

@nawaba: Yes. Only seems to happen when fullscreen for me. On Chrome.
I hope they do the heartfelt epilogue each time, that was great.
I think that Ben, as well as Aragorn, has given us all hope for a brighter 2021.

there are never hidden doors in the dark hallways between rooms.
I've encountered hidden doors in those corridors, but never in the middle of a straight corridor, just in those forks that just end in the middle of nowhere, so they're pretty easy to find.
@hakunin: gotcha, gotcha I'll try that for the next one ty

@nawaba: I found switching to the progressive video player worked for me.
