I'm 9 minutes in and I'm gonna say Ben starves himself into a coma and gets killed. Let's see how I do

Almost, a few times. Oh man. Vinny murdered Ben.

Particularly re: Vinny asking on level 2 about the unexplored hall possibly going to another room, at least in Epyx Rogue, the most you get on a dungeon floor are 9 rooms in a general 3x3 layout. Later games can have more rooms.

Additionally in this game there is at most one door per wall. So if you already see a door on the south wall of a room, there won't be a second secret door on the south. Again, later games don't have this rule and can have multiple doors per wall.

edit: and speaking of things added to later games, they added monster corpses to later games that you can eat (or do other things) where this you're pretty much limited to rations you find. This makes starvation a bigger threat here.

Pretty sure Ben isn't going to beat the game mostly because he loses focus at basically the exact same point in every run and just starts autopiloting, Vinny goading him into attacking or no.

does anyone else get a bug in the Going Rogue series where video playback crashes every few minutes? they just stop like it's the end of the video. only happens for me with this series.

as a workaround i just download them and watch them

While we're talking game mechanics, for Ben's levelups this episode he gets 6HP (to 18), then 10HP (to 28) then 10HP (to 38) by the end of literally floor 2. And then his next level up is another 10HP (to 48), then 5HP (to 53). That's literally hitting the jackpot in this game, though you still need to get better weapons and armour to really seal the deal.

Good stat rolls aside, yeah Ben and Vinny need to look up how anything works in this game if they want to ever have a chance at overcoming BS 80s game design. Ben just blindly equipping spears and rings hurts me to my soul. Even if they didn't die to a centaur, Ben eating the instant it shows "Hungry" and perma-equipping the rings will starve Ben to death every time. The only thing I would blind equip is a longsword or two-handed sword.

The opening monologue bit was fantastic.

The best thing about this video is the video player deciding "that's it!" and showing the end of video screen when I'm 1/3 through, and also when I'm 1/2 through, and also when I'm 2/3 through ...

@bizit: Vinny and anyone really. He has natural chemistry with everyone on the staff it seems. Past or present. I loved Dan's content so much more when he became a beaster even though his stuff in SF was good.

@nick: That's exactly what I did too. I have no idea why GB is cursed with media players that break some of the time. I think it's only this series for me too.

The monologue is weird since it's Ben's fault all the rogue's died unloved and forgotten.

@roadshell: no, the gold is just the score mechanic. that is what the leaderboard looks for in rankings. also when you die the monster that kills you takes a random amount off your corpse. so you wont know what your tomb says by what you have picked up.

You know, I wasn't sure they'd be able to top the comedy stylings of "Fart Jalopy" from the last episode ... and then I find myself doing a literal spit take at the end of this episode's opening monologue.

I wasn't sure anything on GB would ever be able to top "Six Crazy Frights," but this series is giving that one a run for its money.

It sounds hyperbolic to say, but no joke, Vinny & Ben might be the best duo this site has ever produced. I think they're both great individually, but they really bring out the best in each other in an amazing way.

Rogue is not a fun game to watch. The fact that they've been able to turn it into such an entertaining series is really something special.

@nick: Yes, I get the same issue where the video just randomly decides that it's done playing. Thankfully this time it at least saved the spot where I am so I can continue, but that hasn't always been the case when it happened before.

Spear does very little damage mace is better. Alsomif you wear a ring you get hungry faster. Love the adventures of ben and vinny!

Droopy Dawg was an asshole

There's a comic called "Brit" that takes the opposite of what Vinny describes: the character has invulnerability but nothing else. So the first comic is him fighting a giant mech, but taking 2 hours to punch through it and get to the pilot.

He functions mostly as a background character in other books (Invincible, mainly), but I love the concept.

@nick: People definitely mentioned this issue in previous vids. Imagine they just don't want to have to post on every vid about it. I was going to (and I guess I am now) bring it up again cause it keeps happening.
